New Kings Logo Turns Up On Jacket

Seems ebay has been a hotbed of leaks lately and it appears we have another. A reader emailed in a link to a cheer jacket that's being auctioned featuring the new banner-shaped Los Angeles Kings logo we first saw back in August.

So it's interesting we're now seeing this logo on apparel in advance of the third jersey unveiling. And for what it's worth, there's no purple to be found in it. Looks like we're on a crash course with a completely black and white third jersey for the Kings.

My thanks to Joel for sending this in.

"crash" being the operative word. Snoozeville.

Unfortunately, this logo is growing on me. I'd prefer the crown and 'LA' to switch places. We all know the Kings play in Los Angeles. They don't need to put it in freaking large letters on the front. I might think they're moving to Louisiana (whose postal abbreviation is "LA").

I already knew there wasn't going to be a hint of purple anywhere on the jersey thanks to my conversation with a Kings executive back in September, so it doesn't come as any surprise to me.

Please, for the love of all that is good and holy in the hockey universe, return to the purple and gold that all us Kings fans know and love and that the team is most known for.

And could you please ask Joel to somehow find the Kings third jersey? Anybody, I'm growing increasingly desperate each and every day, even though we're only 12 days from the debut.

If that's what the 3rd jersey is going to look like, I hope they never unvail it.

Nov 10 · 9:37 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJames

I could definitely see Al Davis wearing that.

Commitment to dreariness. Why are they so afraid of purple and gold?

Nov 10 · 10:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

That is the logo for the 3rd jersey, the rest of the jersey is somewhat disappointing in my mind. It look bland to me. Expect more of the same.

I agree with Kevin, this logo has grown on me too. Seeing it on the jacket really shows how bold it is. I don't know if it works well as a main crest. I wonder if they designed the alternate jersey to be similar to the detroit dark jersey, only black and white. It would be simple, bold, and it would make a statement...IF the logo could carry it. Right now this logo doesn't but it would make a good shoulder patch.

I guess you got to like silver

Personally I feel the logo is a lackluster effort on the franchise's behalf. It doesn't really reflect the team's history and the use of monotone colors doesn't work well with the theme of royalty. I like that they are trying to use a unique "container" for the logo elements, but I do agree with everyone above who's said that the "LA" and the crown definitely need to switch. Overall I feel if this is actually the logo, that it is a failed opportunity to do something really cool.

It would have been great if they actually did what they had mentioned and incorporated "several looks from the past". As a professional graphic designer/Art Director, I am disappointed with what they have at least leaked so far. Maybe they're saving their best for last...

So its official, the Pacific Division is now and forever known as the "Black Third Jersey" Division.

This is going to be horrible. Very unoriginal and uninspired. Where are the looks from the past? All they have are the colors from the past and bad logos that should have gone to the trash bin.

Nov 11 · 7:46 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterScott

So much for those "looks from the past" that we all hoped for (such as a purple and gold third). There are tons of people all over the world that could design better than that and while I am not a Kings fan, I think they deserve much better than this. Stupid money-grabbing owners...

Nov 11 · 8:21 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterWingerdinger

Wingerdinger,
The looks from the past are the Gretzky era Silver and Black.
When you say "we all hoped for" and then Puprle+Gold in the same sentence you are horribly presumptious.
That old color scheme is terrible. If you want it, root for the Vikings, or especially the Lakers.
(booooo)

This pencil point logo (sans the horizontal line) has been around for a long time actually.
(even back in the Puke and Purple days)

I think the jacket is nasty, didn't even know people still wore satin...but the logo itself is bold and the big LA is kinda cool. I'm looking forward to seeing the sweater soon

Money-grabbing owners doesn't have anything to do with a horrible third. Just look at the leaks for the Bolts. Besides the use of the colloquialism, the jersey itself looks great! And their owners are just about as money-grabbing and self-promoting as I've ever seen in hockey (ie using their goalies' masks to promote their new movie)

That being said, I do agree with most of the posters in that they should go back to purple and gold. But not to worry, vintage/throwback is becoming a trend, and who better to follow a trend than owners that know nothing about hockey in the first place? Give it a couple years at most, and it'll be back.

I know this is all subjective, but I don't know how anyone could consider that logo "bold". Apparently taking home plate, two letters, the Kings crown, and having a 5 year old mix them altogether on MS Paint constitutes "boldness". In it's generic ineptness and seemingly flying in the face of anything cutting edge and stylish, I agree. It is kinda bold. So was the Edsel.

that jacket is blingtastic! Can you get the matching pants?

Nov 11 · 12:32 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterroccot

Hideous. The "LA" font is seriously unpleasant. Kinda like watching this team for the most of the last 40 years...

#1. What is the down arrow supposed to represent?

#2. Why are we so afraid of Purple?

Nov 11 · 3:25 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterslomo

I could definitely see Al Davis wearing that.

I was gonna make the same point. But this jacket (and logo) are hideous.

Nov 11 · 3:34 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterWashington

That is crap. I hope the jersey looks better than the jacket.

Did they have a small budget for that design. Stop spending money on developing down town and english past their prime soccer players and spend some jack on a better design. I see that as a should patch and thats pushing it.

Redo the current wimpy crown and design a more rustic crown similar to LGK logo crown, something more from the Iron Age .

My last post was too opinionated sorry Gouda... you are absolutely right, everyone has their own opinion of what the jersey should be like. I understand that a lot of people do not like not like the old purple and gold colours and that's ok. David, very good point.

Nov 11 · 4:55 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterWingerdinger

If this is the new LA Kings Logo. All I can say is that it is ugly as hell. It looks like a ladies bikni top and underwear. If the kings wear this, they will get laughed out the building.
