No New Division This Week

I'm holding off on releasing a new division this week because I'm concerned not enough of you are interested in designing jerseys for the IceHL project. With less than a week remaining to submit uniforms for the Southeast Division, I've received only one eligible entry.

This is troubling and it makes me question whether we should bring the IceHL project to an early end and start on something fresh. I'm eager to hear your feedback on this, but not in a poll. Leave a thought-out comment below and let me know how you feel.

End the IceHL and start something new? Or be patient and extend the deadline on the Southeast Division uniform submissions? Your call.

Don't end the IceHL!

I'm working on two uniforms.

I LOVE the Icehl project and have downloaded both the template and gimp... but i have serious problems with getting it done due to my lack of skills in the gimp/photoshop department... i fear that i wont be able to finnish a set because frankly i suck at this... but im still in it and working to find a way to get my designs from my head to paper... please dont stop!!!!!!

Still working, maybe extend the deadline?

Sorry to everyone about the .ai file situation. I created it in photoshop since that's what I know. If I could make a illustrator version I would but I don't know how.

Hey Chris,
Please don't end the project. I'm a design professional and even I'm not too thrilled with the Photoshop template. A vector one would have been nice, but oh well. That said, it's worth the time to get the jerseys done. I have a ton of sketches done but getting them into the template is the tricky part. I agree with extending the deadlines if you need to. No rush! Thanks for keeping up on this, it's a great project.

I think you should extend the deadline. I've been so excited to see what people come up with for this great project. I personally am completely photoshop illiterate so I will not be submitting anything, but hopefully more people are working on it.

What ? Telling people to stay away if they're not skilled enough to participate in this 'just for fun' project actually drove them away ? I'm positively stunned...

My main gripe was the template. I mean yeah it looks great, but in functionality it's not very good. Looks like I'll just have to work around it.

More Of Uss Could Do This If The Sample Wasn't So Fuzzy. :)

Extend the deadline, I love the work everybody has done so far. And I`d love to have a vote on the uniforms.

Obviously, one of the major problems is going with PSD not AI. I know Photoshop enough, and would have two teams completed by the deadline, but making jerseys in Photoshop is just tedious. Especially in this template for me. I am very organized and anal as well as a perfectionist, so I am having a hard time with it. And don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the creator of the template because I cannot(I didn't get off my arse and do it). It is just something different that for some people will take a bit more time. I say extend the deadline, that way some first time users can get in their 1-2 teams, and people with a couple teams mostly done can work on their 3rd and 4th teams. I don't know the proper amount of time, though.

yup pretty much the same as everyone else... Love the iceHL project but I'm not entirely comfortable in photoshop and it gives me trouble (especially the whole guy). I'd be real happy with an Illustrator format.

Just a note, I didn't notice this post here until I randomly clicked on the ICEHL tab to go looking at an old logo. You probably should've said on the twitter at least that there's a new ICEHL post. Otherwise people aren't going to know it's there.

If you ask me, it's not so much about PSD vs. AI, but rather the full complement of elements (and resulting time demands) you're asking people to do. That's a lot of work for just a jersey submission that may or may not see light of day at the end of the contest.

Granted, a true designer considers ALL of these things, up to and including full alpha/numeric design and artwork placement in the round when designing a true uniform, and it can certainly be detrimental to have to figure out those things after the true design process has concluded. But it's just a lot of work for what at this point is still just concept art.

Speaking of which, I think you would've been better off just asking for a concept design of, say, home & away front and back, pants shell and socks. If there's plans to integrate these into MOC sets or something else, the full design process could be applied once the winner has been chosen.

That's just my two cents.

In Chris' defense, we could always submit the jersey designs in AI (see below). as for the template being is .psd, it should still open in Illustrator and from there use the pen tool to trace and make your own. thats what i did.

"You may submit your artwork in one of the following formats: .pdf (preferred), .psd, .ai, .png, or .jpg."

now then, the template that we were provided, wasnt all that great. the jersey side thing i though was a waste. and the 3/4 vew of the player was a bit of a pain.

as much as i would like to design a uniform for the project i lack serious computer skills with any illustrating program so i i chose to not participate because you asked for a higher standard of design which kind of bums me out but i will survive

as far as the project goes, to come up with and fully design everything you asked for in a little more then a week or 2 weeks or whatever is alot of work for one team let alone five! i think extending the deadline would increase your submissions

and if you remember for the logos, there were teams that got very few entries in my opinion because no one really had interest in the teams and i fear that it may be the case for the jerseys as well so the lack of entries may be due to lack of interest in those teams

Quick question on the new template idea, will it be exclusively Illustrator, or both Illustrator and Photoshop?

Oct 7 · 1:04 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterSean

gotta give the iceHL some more love on the main page. I didn't even know there were new posts and I check the site all the time. I think this project and the concepts are why people come here. It isn't rocket science to find jersey news spread throughout the web.

Why limit any type submissions? There were no limits on the logos. If someone wants to re-create the winners for the video game I don't think it would be that challenging for a photoshop pro.

As I'm way off the last post, in case nobody else notices, y'all might want to re-start the process once the NHL season ends. I think interest fell off once hockey got started (just check the dates!) I'd imagine that folks will get cracking on the jerseys (which I'm really looking forward to) come June! I mean really, what the hell else is there to do in the summer?

Jan 9 · 8:53 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJeff

Hi,

I hope as well this project will get a new Start in the Summer. Was too good to be over like that...

But the requirements to take part on the next step are way too high. I guess most people have nice ideas for jerseys, but cant quite realize them. And the lettering kit is just impossible for a non-pro illustrator.

Maybe more people would be interested in taking part, if they could send in decent scatches of their design and got some common letter kits preset to work with... We could vote on the scatch and the winning designs could get transfered in the teamplate be someone, who actually knows how to do it...

Please don't end it.
