The NHL expands again, adding two teams in 1970. The Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks are the newest members. Elsewhere, a new owner takes control of the Oakland Seals and rebrands the franchise with new colors and a new name, California Golden Seals. Also, the Toronto Maple Leafs update their crest once again. Then in 1971, the Pittsburgh Penguins take their skating bird out of its circle to form a new crest and updated jersey designs.
