Where's The Puck?!
15 Comments Saturday · Oct 11 · 2008 | 8:30 AM PDT
The newest incarnation of the IHL isn't exactly rolling in the dough — and neither is its member clubs. What makes me say that?
That is an actual picture of the ice rink of the Fort Wayne Komets from their official web site. I count 18 logos on the ice — not including the Komets' own at center ice.
Personally, I'd be concerned with not being able to follow the puck from the stands, let alone on TV — not that IHL games are broadcast on TV or anything.
Anyway, the real kicker in that photo is the complete lack of any ads or anything at all on the boards. Hopefully they're in the process of adding something.
Thanks to David for sending in the picture.

Holy crap, how will the players be able to follow the puck?
That's ridiculous...
That's horrible. That's as bad as a car in NASCAR. Let's hope the NHL never gets that desperate for revenue.
omg.... I thought this was part of Freak Out Friday at first...
It's so hilarious that there are all those ads on the ice, and yet none on the boards. Makes me fear what is on the players' jerseys..
In their defense, there's only 11 DIFFERENT logos. ;)
Wow...
That's worse than a European sheet of ice!
And they say the economy is about to flatline...lotsa advo dollars still available. I'm thinking they are extending the ad deadline so they can fill every square inch of space on the boards. Do you think they'll sell space on the Referees bums?
Hey Chris. I think the boards don't have ads on them because I believe that they pay for the advertisement game to game. I know when the Bruins play the Canadians there are Canadian ads along the boards that aren't there any other game. The ice ads are usually for the entire season.
i think i found a picture of a comets player and their refs

that was a european team right?
yea
Hehe, I just realized a friend of mine plays for them.
They will have ads on the boards as well. They've done it for years. However, I don't think the Komets are hurting for money. They average over 7k fans per game.
