On-Ice Dates For Third Jerseys
This isn't official, but I felt it newsworthy considering it could be. A reader sent me an email he says he received — from where I do not know — regarding the release dates of this season's new third jerseys. And I know how you all just love third jersey news.
The email contained information regarding the date the jerseys will make their on-ice debut as well as when retailers will get delivery. The dates differ because the teams "get a certain time frame of exclusivity." The majority of the jerseys hit the ice in November so I'll imagine I'll be pretty busy here at that time.

The following teams were listed in the email without any dates: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Washington Capitals. And that's where things get interesting because this is the first time we're hearing of a Capitals third jersey. But this is all the information I have on them.
I've got a couple of other notes. The dates above for the Oilers seem strange to me too but I'm just posting what I have. The Thrashers, Lightning and Sabres all had asterisks next to their names on the list but I assume the email was truncated because there were no explanations for them. So I'm not quite sure what that means.
Speaking of the Sabres, you'll note that on-ice date for their third jersey is said to be November 26 despite the fact that they've announced they will be unveiling them prior to the pre-season on September 20. We'll see if these dates continue to hold up.
That's all for now. Should I learn anything new, you can count on me to let you know.

Hmm, interesting that they'd be released in waves, and not all at once...
I just hope NHL09 will have them, so we can at least see them.
Strange that the Oilers are the first to wear them (Opening night) and then one of the last to ship. Build up for the christmas rush I guess.
Anybody else find it interesting that the two alternate jerseys with angled text both hit the ice in a game against the masters of the craft-the New York Rangers?
Too bad we aren't going to see any new 3rd vs. new 3rd games this year, I thought that would've been interesting.
Oh well. I'm excited to see what the designers have come up with this year.
I'm VERY skeptical about the Bolts date, because from what I've been hearing through word of mouth (so take that with a grain of salt), the jerseys will be unveiled at ICEFest, and I can only assume that they will do what they did with the new jerseys last year and make them available for order and then be ready for pickup a few weeks later.
Im sure these are just the first days these are being used on ice...
I'm kind of...not feeling a third for the caps. This year, at least. No more black jerseys, and I don't want a blue one. A white one with the weagle would be ok, but that's about it for me.
Hey Chris,
I was just wondering what's up with the Canes 3rd jersey? On the side bar it says something about the primary logo but the source and blog says secondary.
I heard on the pens blog that the caps are wearing the miracle on ice jersey of the 80's ameican team for a celebration of the anniversairy of it.

WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!

That was just something proposed by a blogger that follows the team. The team had no part in that idea, and I doubt they would actually do it for a couple reasons:
1st, it's the 29th anniversary. The logical tribute would be for team USA to simply wear those jerseys in Vancouver in 2010, the 30th anniversary.
2nd, the Capitals are a very, very international team. It would be... odd... to see guys like Ovechkin and Fedorov wearing the Red, White, and Blue in commemoration of their vanquishing of the Red Army team.
I really doubt that happens. It might be cool, but it just doesn't make much sense. The Caps aren't supposed to have a 3rd this year, they're supposed to be waiting a bit since they just went through the redesign.
Of course the Flyers release their' second to last. Figures.
In response to the first post, the third jerseys are in NHL 09 but they are blacked out like last year's RBK. With any luck, the code will leak out again before they are all released but if not, the code probably won't be officially released until December. :(
The Sabres will be showing off the new jersey on Sept 20, at the first open practice.
The on-sale date for the Oilers probably refers to the date when the jerseys will be available to ALL retailers. I would assume that there'll be a period of time where the only place you can get one is at the rink or at an Oilers Store.
