Kings Official; Who Else Is?

This isn't earth-shattering news or anything but I just thought I'd point out that the Kings have officially confirmed that they'll have a third jersey this season on their web site.

Season ticket holders will receive a free one — wonder if that means they think they'll have a hard time selling them.

Anyway, like I said it's not like we didn't know the Kings would have a third jersey this year, but amidst all the rumors I think we sometimes forget that very few of these alternate sweaters are officially confirmed yet and the carpet could be ripped out from under us at any time. So I still plan to keep a close eye on what the teams are saying — along with Howard Berger and other rumor-mongers.

Here's a rundown of teams that have confirmed a third jersey is some official capacity:

Sabres
Prior to the Winter Classic, Buffalo alluded to the use of a third jersey without setting a specific timetable when managing partner Larry Quinn said, "Our future retro jersey will be the dark blue sweater, so this maybe one of the last times our team wears this [white] jersey."

Kings
As stated above, Los Angeles has made their alternate sweater official by offering a "Kings Free Alternate Jersey (with mystery photo)" to season ticket holders.

Flyers
Philly was the first to confirm a third jersey last year, doing so within the online form to buy a new Rbk EDGE sweater. It read, "Black and white jerseys are available this year. A third orange jersey will be released next year."

Sharks
In May at San Jose's "State of the Sharks" event, CEO Greg Jamison confirmed a third jersey's existence by saying, "There is a good chance it will be black. It is still being decided on. I can tell you we get input from the fans, staff and the players. The players were very involved in the jerseys for this year. I think the third jersey will be very neat."

Those were the only teams for which I could find quotes on official web sites. I don't consider a media interview with a team executive to be an official confirmation, because that's not coming through team channels — if that makes any sense.

If you come across anything I haven't found, shoot me an email and I'll add it to the list.

Well of course the new third jersey was something that I had known about since at least April. The "?" on the jersey on the picture provided actually looks much better than what we've heard; their whole team is a question, and it makes perfect sense.

In addition, I like how on the sidebar for the third jersey rumors, you replaced the logos of the teams with what they've been reported as going to wear (like the Thrashers, Bruins, et cetera).

Just went to the NHL Rbk store in Manhattan today (47th and 6th). It was nice to see all the home jerseys in a line there. At first glance at those jerseys, red was the color that stuck out the most: Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota, Montreal, New Jersey, Ottawa, Phoenix, and Washington. The black jerseys there were Anaheim, Boston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay, so not nearly as much black. Of course Calgary, Chicago, Phoenix, and Washington have all had black jerseys since 2000, but it would be nice to see some more diversity.

As far as the Sabres confirming a third jersey, it wasn't posted on their website, but rather announced on the radio. Here is the article: http://wgr550.com/pages/2623562.php?

"Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn joined Mike Schopp and the Bulldog Friday afternoon. He announced that the Sabres will unveil their 3rd alternate jersey at an open practice to the fans on Saturday, September 20th. Fans will have to wait until then to see the new-look uniforms."

The Administrator on the Islanders official message board (which has Isles staff and reps on it all the time) confirmed the Isles thirds.. I'm sure I could dig up a link if you need.

I think the NHL should go back to White @ home. For fans with seasons tickets to a game it's always *home colour* vs. White. It used to be White vs *range of colours.

LA - they announced this a little over a month back. the reason is, they really want to sell season tickets. they have one of these incentives about every year, but this year it was convenient giveaway since it's a year for a new 3rd jersey. usually it's a lettered vintage jersey or something like that.

Has anyone heard any news about the Rangers bringing back the shining liberty jersey???

The last Kings third jersey led to the team putting the current crown logo on their regular home and away jerseys. I never really supported their current logo and jerseys for these last 10 years. Hopefully the new third jersey is a better look for them.

Yeah, it is a shame the Rangers aren't at least for now bringing back their "Lady Liberty" alternate jersey. It had been one of the best ever created since the third jersey program began.
