Habs Unveil 100 Seasons Logo

I've gotten about a dozen emails about this so most of you probably know already. The Montreal Canadiens released a new 100th anniversary logo that will be used this season. The announcement was made yesterday on their official web site.

The logo is described as "using the style of numbers found on the Canadiens’ current white jersey worn on the road." It will also be used at center ice. A rendering of what that will look like is on the team's web site.

For what it's worth, the logo says "100 Seasons" right? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the last 100 years we have had at least one year without a hockey season. Did the Habs perhaps play two seasons in one year at some point prior to the formation of the NHL?

The article makes no mention of the vintage jerseys the Habs are rumored to be wearing throughout the season to commemorate their centennial.

On a previous post, the EA screenshots are confirmed proof of the Habs sweaters for this season.

Sorry, Electronic Arts can't confirm anything. Only the league or individual teams can do that. And all those screenshots show are the 100th anniversary logos on old pre-Rbk EDGE jerseys.

Ha, fair enough. One can dream. Would be nice to go back to those pre-Rbks.

History Flash: The Habs organisation played for 100 hockey seasons but not all were in the current NHL. From 1909-1917 the habs were playing NHA (National Hockey Association) and from 1917 they play in the NHL. As you mentioned, in those 100 seasons there were 2 in which the teams did not play. The NHL still reconises these unplayed years as seasons due to the fact these unactive season were lockouts(inforced but the league's atthorities).

altorchio,
there was only one season not played, 2004-05 due to the lockout. If the canadiens have played one season every year (not calendar year), they would have played 99 seasons (1908-09 to 2008-09) due to the lost season.

many times, commemorative patches will say "years" instead of seasons, which is in fact wrong. the one time they put "seasons" (as it should be), there's a technicality in which that isn't right either.

though the NHL probably doesn't remove the 2004-05 "season" from its listing simply because no games were played, i mean why would they? *rolls eyes*

for the record:
1994-95 was shortened to just 1995, but still counts as a season

1917-18 was a full season, but the Stanley Cup was not awarded because of the Spanish Influenza academic, where the finals between the NHL and PCHL were cancelled, and Habs legend Joe Hall died from the disease.

all the other seasons were normal seasons, unless i'm missing something

For what it's worth, the Toronto Blue Jays wore a "35th Anniversary" patch in 2005. The following year, the Seattle Mariners (the Jays' expansion brothers) wore a "35th Season" patch. I know I'm talking about baseball on a hockey site, but...

To Hockey Week,
I just cut it short to 2 seasons but you are right

I'm a little disappointed in the '100 seasons' commemoration. During the build-up to this season everyone was specifically talking about the team's 'centennial' which specifically refers to years and not seasons (semantics ...). This is an unnecessary oversight by the habs organization. But even more so, I think it is funny that the habs are celebrating their anniversary this season because the actual date of their centennial occurs in December 2009 which won't be a part of this coming season but next season ...

would it be 100 seasons since the team was founded and not 100 seasons played?
