Habs Jerseys Bear New Patches

Training camp is underway for the Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Gazette has photos. They're on the Habs Inside/Out blog. Why is that interesting?

They have this shot of Robert Lang, Georges Laraque and Alex Tanguay wearing their new red sweaters — with some new shoulder patches.

Obviously the right shoulder bears the new 100th anniversary logo — which can now be seen at center ice in the Bell Centre. Habs Inside/Out has a better picture.

What's not obvious is the patch on the left shoulder. You can make out something on Tanguay's sweater but it's out of focus in this picture yet clearly not the same as what's on the right. None of the other pictures I saw in the gallery show that shoulder. However, if I were to guess, I'd say it's the 2009 All-Star Game logo.

Most teams seem to wear the logo on the front of the jersey when they're hosting, but there's no reason it couldn't be up on the shoulder. So there you have it. If any new pictures turn up, I'll have them.

hmmm. guess those screenshots, provided on the August 12th post, of the Canadiens in the pre-RBk unis WERE true.

Robert Lang is wearing an RBK helmet. He's only worn the CCM classic style his whole career. Weird.

Reebok owns CCM (and KOHO and Jofa), so it's not too unlikely that the RBK is a similar design to the CCM classic style it terms of fit and feel. The current CCM may have changed just enough that he prefers the current RBK one.

Interesting bit of info regarding THN's logo tournament for anyone who's interested:

RDS is TSN's French sister-station here in Canada and carrier of all Montreal Canadiens games. Right now on the front page of their website is an article about how Montreal's logo is losing it's quarter-final matchup against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux 58%-42% (yeah, we really care about hockey here.)

A quick visit to THN's website now shows that in the few hours the article's been up on RDS, the Canadiens have edged ahead and now lead......80%-20%.

Yeah, again, we really care about our hockey here...

dont think they dont care in north dakota either, but when you have a city of multi million people against a college town of under 100,000 people, id say montreal is expected to win, regardless of who cares more about their hockey

Another group of biased team fans have to ruin another logo competition... it's a shame.

Take this for what it's worth (whoever runs icethetics):
The patch which you cannot see IS the all-star game patch. I saw the jerseys at a filming session for a movie for the Habs centennial, and while I was not able to take pictures, I can confirm for you 100 % that the other patch is the all-star game patch!

Shame, North Dakota has the better logo. I really hate these vote for your own team, not the one that honestly looks best fans...

It's the Pittsburgh Penguins Center Ice fiasco all over again. At least this time it's not on Icethetics.

As a Habs fan, I like the Fighting Sioux logo more. I complained about the Penguins fans and center ice and I'm not happy that Habs fans are doing the same thing, I don't agree with Biased Homerism in a design competition becuase it's not voting for which one you think is best.
