Congrats to the Penguins!
With 58% of the nearly 4,000 votes, the center ice design of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been declared the best in the NHL. My thanks to all who voted and all the folks who linked people here! The visitor count for the blog skyrocketed this last week for this final poll.
I'm working on championship banner ideas. I think I'll include all the logo champions from both NHLToL and ToHL in the new banners. Hope to have them posted at the bottom of the pollbar in the next few weeks.
I'm also thinking about the next logo tournament. I'm considering an IHA Tournament of Logos. Maybe a Rbk EDGE jersey tournament. Third jerseys for sure once they've all been unveiled officially. If you've got any other ideas, let me know by email or comment.

Wow, somehow one of the ugliest center ices in the league, with one of the lamest logos in all of sports, wins? Hmmmm something tells me Pensblog had something to do with that.
Seriously, what's with the little tiny penguins on either side of the monstrous center penguin? One wasn't enough? You need THREE out there at center ice?
Well, I guess I'm not so PO'd about them beating Minny in the first round. Their Bird on Skates was destined for greatness.

Its supposed to be a competition on what team has the best center ice logo, not a race to see who can vote more.
Oh well. The poll says one thing, but i know we all know who the real champ is, the Oilers.

yuck, same time yesterday the Oilers were 54% to 46%. Hmmmm.
As far as the next tournament, we should have an NHL Arenas Logo or just an NHL Arena Tournament. That's right, based on the overall structure design, layout and prices of seats, entertainment value, unique concession offerings, mascots/ice girls factor, etc.
Team mascots tourney next plz! I want something new and exciting.
This is a shocker. I suspect that what people are saying is true about the pens fan sites messing up the polls. It's pretty obvious that the Oilers were going to win, and in my personal opinion, was the better center ice design. Oh well, it's just a poll. Congrats to the pens fans, I hope you feel good about messing up this otherwise great contest.
What about a National Team tourney. There are some pretty decent ones out there. Aside from the obvious hockey countries you could get some of the less obious countries as well for a 32 team Tourney. One great example IMO is the Israeli teams logo, http://www.israel-hockey.com/ check it out. Anyways, just my 3 cents.

So.... it's not good for fans to come out and vote in a fan poll? If more fans vote for the team you don't think should win, there's obviously something wrong with it?
No Zach that isn't it, it's mostly that people are angry that Penguins fans came out and voted for the logo because they are pens fans, not based on which one they thought was better, which i would consider ruining the poll. I don't really care, but some people are angered by it.
Bill's right. When voting on the appearance of something, you should vote for how it looks, not who you're a fan of. And bringing in ringers of your team is kind of rude too.
Oilers really won. I would have preferred the islanders, but Oilers and Isles are the two I though should be first and second.
If that's what people did, why didn't the Canucks win? we know from the poll that the majority of the people on this site are canucks fans.

it would be cool to see a championship banner for teams.. you couldnt add every team but you could at least get a tourny of like 16 teams with 1 team getting a bye.
I can't complain about Pensblogs, though I was pulling for the Oil. Considering my own Caps weagle was likely aided int he secondary logo category by mentions on at least tedstake.com and japersrink, it's not really a fair argument for me to make.
Well, the Canuck's centre ice isn't even good though. The Penguins' is at least alright, but the Oil definitely deserved this one.
I would never vote the Leaf's logo as the best in the league, so why would Canuck's fans vote their centre ice the best in the league if it's extremely clear that it's not? The Penguins have a good centre ice circle, but certainly not the best. The Leafs are no where near the best logo in the league, so I wouldn't vote for it anyway. Make sense?
I agree with all those who said you shouldn't vote for your team but for the logo that looks the best, my fav team is the habs and i voted against them in the 2nd round,
asking everyone on your team's forum to come and vote for your home team coz its losing is lame,
I don't see why everyone has a problem with the Penguins logo. It's not that bad of a logo. Yeah there are logos that are better, but this is a really sharp logo, and personally i dont think the Oilers logo is better than the Penguins.
How about mascots for the next NHL tournament and then go by each NCAA Division 1 school conference to declare a championship logo of each one, like what we did with the canadian major junior leagues. I miss only logo tournaments, but I also like new weird tourneys too.
I think Pens' fans opinions definitely influence the way they vote on this poll but that doesn't mean it ruins the poll. As a big time Pens fans the center ice logo couldn't be any better because thats just what I'm used to and what gets me going.

i still dont understand the "ruining the poll" theory. just because im a pens fan, doesnt mean i voted for the pens logo. i did, im not gonna lie, but its because i genuinely prefer the penguins center ice. artistically, its a more aesthetically pleasing center ice than the oilers logo. that's my personal opinion, maybe it is because i'm a pens fan, but i didn't vote just to see the pens on top, if that's the argument...
Next tourney should be arena architecture. TD Banknorth Garden guaranteed to lose first round.
Personally, I think the little tiny penguins are much cooler than the corporate logos everyone else seems to sport. Props to Mellon and the Pens for something unique, at least.

I'm an Oilers fan and although I didn't like how the Pens fans all voted for them just because they're fans, at least it was a decent center ice that won. I'll be honest, I voted the Bruins over Oilers and thought that the Bruins would win that one but I guess some people like the Oilers' better.
Either way, what's done is done and it's just a poll, if the Pens fans feel good about voting for the sake of their team then good for them, it won't help them on the ice.
I hate Pittsburh as a team, but voted for their design anyways

That's very interesting. My favorite team is the Kings, and I voted for the Canadiens in the 2nd round.
I can understand why pens fans voted for their own.. it's a pride thing. I voted for the leafs knowing full well theirs was a mess, and that it didn't have a hope. I say if it leads to more regular visitors on this blog then may the best fans win.
after losing to Detroit in the Cup Finals,the Pens deserved to win something.
the classic skating Pens logo itself is one of the best in hockey in my opinion ...I was glad Mario and company resurrected the classic logo again in the early 2000's.That corporate looking Pens crest the team wore throughout the mid 90's was absolutly horrible.
im still not a huge fan of the black and gold colors....I would rather see them go back to their original blue.I always thought the dark blue/light blue/white 1977-78 uniforms were the best looking in team history.Why must the hockey team wear the same colors as the baseball and football teams?
horrible, anything with a circle should have won, oilers, bruins, isls, all looked amazing. Oh well just a dumb contest right.
Let's see if I've got this right.. Since I'm a Pens fan I've given up my own asthetic judgement and must respond robotically to defend the team in some meaningless poll. I should vote, not because I happen to like the logo, but because I'm a member of some flightless bird cult? That probably explains the jerseys and other memoriblilia lying around the house. And you other folks aren't bitter because your logos 'lost', but because you're part of some NHL intervention.... now I get it, things are a lot clearer now. Thank you for your concern, but there really is no such thing as a Penguins cult, so I really do rely on my own opinion, but thanks for your concern.

Wait are people complaining that my liking the pens affected my decision on who to vote for? Well that was the only thing that went into my decision. I saw penguins or oilers and it wasn't even a decision.

How could the Penguins win this? Nothing goes more naturally with frozen water than oil.
Truthfully the giant word "OILERS" is probably one of the lamest logos in hockey. I'm shocked it made it to the finals. Personally I think a skating penguin with a hockey stick is really cool.
