Senators Third Jersey Leaked!

During this afternoon's Live Chat, those who were able to join us enjoyed the standard pre-leak history lesson looking at the Ottawa Senators' past sweaters. The Senators will officially unveil their third jerseys a week from today, but you can have a sneak peek right now.

As with the Sharks leak two nights ago, the image quality is certainly lacking, but you get the gist. It's black with the word SENS scrawled across the chest. It's got a unique striping pattern under the arms we haven't seen on any other EDGE NHL sweater.
It features the half elbow stripes below the jersey number seen on the Oilers and Panthers home and road sweaters. The numbering and lettering style appears to be the same as the red and white jerseys. However, it's difficult in this image to make out the type used for the text on the front.
I'd like to see it on a player, but this may be toward the top of my list of new third jerseys. However, I would've preferred either the secondary "O" logo or the new 2D logo introduced last year on the front.
Just like we did with the Sharks, if any of our talented artists would like to take a stab at creating a graphic that enhances what we're seeing here, I'd be thrilled to add it as a follow-up to this post.
Remember, the Sens are scheduled to officially showcase the new uni on Saturday, November 22.

I may be in the minority when I say this, but I honestly would have liked to have seen a gold jersey, just so we don't have the same Blue, Black, and Red jerseys

Yeah because using your awesome side profile logo that hasn't been used would have been such a horrible idea compared to this crap....
A gold jersey? lol. I'd like to see that on a player.
Anyways, the striping is fine. Where it loses points is having "SENS" or "SNES" as some have put it across the chest. They should put their 2D Sens logo on there instead. Hell, even the vintage "O" would work. Just as long as they were to get rid of that text on the front. I swear, it seems like 1/3rd of the 3rd jerseys have just text on the front of the jersey.
I honestly don't think it's all that bad. Could it be better? Possibly. I know it's on my Christmas list regardless! (it's gotta go with all my other Sens jerseys) Also, while many may hate it I remember also some hating the Sens 3rd when they debuted it in 1997-98 (the one as advertised by Jersey City .. banner plug ... plug) now it's one of the most beloved.
Let's give a chance.

Seriously, this is just getting downright maddening. They go to the trouble of making an AWESOME redesign of the profile logo and then they don't even bother making any use for the fucking thing?!

The front reminds me of the Ducks' jersey, which already isn't good. And then they add these weird stripes. I'd say that this is actually worse than the Ducks' jersey.

Move over Thrashers, another contender for worst third jersey this season. This jersey doesn't know what it wants to be. Usually you'll see arm striping or something across the bottom or hideous side panels or something under the arms. This sweater has all four of those features. Yuck!
Super Nintendo! What a waste of another really sharp striping job. I still wonder why we haven't seen the 'O" logo. I'm not an Ottawa fan, but I see their fans clamoring for this all the time. I wonder if it's a concensus.
MAYBE CHRIS SHOULD MAKE A POLL ON WHETHER FANS LIKE THE ACTUAL THIRDS OR OTHER CONCEPT LOGO/JERSEYS INSTEAD
Better than I feared when seeing the teaser, but still not great. I don't get the half-stripes, but at least they put them on the outside of the arm instead of the idiocy the Oilers and Panthers went with. The stripes growing from narrow on the front to wide at the back is interesting.
If one good thing comes from this, they have a pair of decent socks now at least.

As a Sens fan, I think I need to go puke. Then maybe kill someone.
When I heard SENS on the front, I wasn't completely against it, I figured it could work out. I actually really like Dallas' home jerseys this year and don't mind the Thrashers thirds either (I thought they were some of the best when I first saw them, but then seeing them in game-action, my opinion's wavered a bit). I was really hoping of Sens arched with the number underneath (if, of course, for some reason neither the 2D (one of the best logos in sports, I say) nor the retro O were available). Obviously I'm in the minority, but I actually really like that look--so long as it's symmetrical. But this... Ugh.
Also, anyone noticed that the font of SENS doesn't seem to match the font used elsewhere on their EDGE jerseys? Just imagine "SENATORS" arched symmetrically in the font used for the names on the back. Obviously the 2D or O logos would be better, but between that and what we actually seem to be getting...
Oh, and I totally would support a gold jersey. Though we are the Sens, and I would prefer a black before a gold... can we get two third jerseys? ...Or none, if this is our only option.
...I can't believe I've waited the last two or three months for this and now I can honestly say I'd prefer we didn't even have one.

Gold can work really well. The Clarkson Women's team played their games this weekend in a gold jersey, and It looked really sharp.

I would have liked to see a jersey with that secondary logo, but with the stripes stretched around the middle like the habs.
Gold or their secondary. But at least the jersey design is decent even if the logo isn't.
An awful jersey to match an awful team, and I'm not just saying that as a Leafs fan.
Why is the top so busy while the bottom doesn't even have a red stripe along it? And then some idiot decided that Dallas knew what they were doing. Heck, even Dallas didn't attempt a nickname, not that there's much out there for the name Stars anyways.
Look, I don't mind teams being in the south like some people, but if Dallas had anywhere near the die-hard fans up here then they would've already had riots about their monstrosities. Ottawa, I hate to say it, but I'm hoping you guys have to enough fan support to de-rail this jersey.
Tsk, tsk. I really don't like the Sens wordmark. Interesting font, but for me that jersey is better suited to an actual logo. Although, as always I have to reserve judgement until it is on the ice...

Top banner on the Senators' home page shows a portion of the new 3rd. Black with red piping, lace up with the current logo on the shoulder.
Ugh. Awful. Wordmarks are bad enough, but I can't stand truncated ones. Why not just spell out the entire "Senators" name?
The more I think of it ... why not a design like what the Bingo Sens are wearing right now? That's a sharp looking jersey all around.
They kept their original logo for the front and have the current NHL logo on the shoulders. I think for the big club, having the "O" on the shoulders and the current Sens logo on the front with the jersey look could have been nicer.
I'm still going to give this one a shot though.
I totally agree that the "O" design should be used. Even as a hockey fan who HATES the senators, when I first saw that logo on a hat I thought of buying it.
The "O" would have been awesome, on a nice purple jersey like the LA Kings once had, and don't even put the players names on the back.....EVERYBODY does that (how lame). They should also change all the players numbers so we don't even know who is on the ice, and the opposition would have no idea either......HILARIOUS!!! Better yet.....make the whole jersey the exact same colour as the ice.....the opposing team would never even see the Senators (am I on a roll or what?).
I think the best idea for a logo would be a group of idiots on the front.....can all of you send the Senators your picture so they can get the "Idiot" logo together before Saturday's game?

But, the fact that some people are saying use a gold jersey, WTF!! That is wrong! Or the guy who says, 'why not just put Ators on the front!' Hmm...Maybe because Sens actually goes with Senators, ators, they'd look/sound like idiots!! No offence Chris, but the picture isn't too good. Give it a while and when they unveil it on Saturday, you will like, so don't be a bunch of ass holes!!

I like the black, I like the design, but I hate the "SENS" on the front. Can you imagine the Canadiens having a jersey with "HABS" on the front? Lame. It would never happen. "Sens" is fine as a nickname or for a cheer, but not as a team name/logo. It's bad enough when Bob Cole refers to the team as the "Ottawa Sens" in play-by-play commentary... ugh. The retro Ottawa "O" symbol would been sweet and more fitting with the throwback laces.
