IceHL Logo Ratings Go On
Sunday · Dec 14 · 2008 | 3:59 PM PST Comments Off
Again, I apologize for the delay, but the IceHL project continues on. You can now begin rating the IceHL's South Division logos. There are 34 eligible logos for the five teams in this division. Click here to make your picks! Ratings close in one week.
Since you're in the mood to vote, why not help finally finish off the Flashback '98 Logo Tournament? Remember that old thing? We've narrowed the 28-team 1998-99 NHL season to two logos — the Blackhawks' primary and the Rangers' third. Which is best? Vote now!

Two of those Boulder Beasts logos are really good!
hell no .... most of these logos are awful .. but i blame the team names.
the only impressive logos i saw were the first two scorpions (i especially like the goalie one)
and the last two Gators logos. Especially the Blue one.
that was easy ... def the Third Liberty logo... i hate the Rangers but that logo is solid. Wish they'd bring it back. I'd have a little more respect for them.
Blackhawks have the worst logo ever!
How many times do we have to use the fleur de lis people??? Unacceptable! Fail.
I have been overall very disappointed in the IceHL logos. There are a couple here and there that are decent but I have yet to see one that blows me away.
In general the problem is too much. I mean too much detail, too much though into the meaning of the logo and the city. Just too much. In the NHL, the simplest logos are the best looking. Although some may disagree given the blackhawks, but I am with Chris on that logo.
Please keep it simple.
I love the scopion goalie logo. It is extremely creative!
Yea that goalie scorpions logo is way better than the Hannover Scorpions goalie logo of the DEL lol.
wow, I'm blown away by all of the complaining - I'm rarely the one in the room that says "lets see you do better," but, frankly, these guys have put together some really STELLAR work absolutely for free - for the love of it. do y'all know what a logo costs, or how much work goes into it?
If things aren't to your tastes, you're allowed to say that; but don't be a jerk about it. There's a very proud designer behind each of those logos who likely reads all these comments. People especially need to recognize that whether something suits your personal preferences or not does not make it invalid or worthless.
I can't speak for any of the logo designers other than myself, a rather humble paintbrush user, but I would hope that the other designers (especially the actually talented ones like Roccot, Six Zero, Craig Wheeler etc) have a thick enough skin to realize that putting work up on a site like this is going to elicit some harsh criticism. But this is nothing compared to the concepts forum at Chris Creamer's site, or some of the comments that were posted when Chris did this on TOHL.
The people who are commenting have valid points too. The fleur-de-lis has been used by different designers for four teams now. (I used it for two, which is one too many, but I'm admittedly one of the lazier designers. It's hard to out-sloth me in any endeavor). For the most part, the logos are a bit underwhelming. But once we see just the top three against each other, the really good ones will be able to stand out better.
So that's the take from an average (at best) designer on the comments thus far. Perhaps Chris has done some moderating in the comments. Probably. And if things got out of hand and hateful, he'd stop it.
Anyhow, all that to say, it could be better, but it could be a lot worse.
Huzzah! The IceHL is back from the dead! All kidding aside, I agree with others that the latest batch of logos just don't seem to be up to the standards of other hockey leagues. There were some logos I was impressed with though, Chris' gators one was great, as well as the Hellcats designs that were actually war planes. (Sorry, flaming cats just don't work for me.) As for the flashback tournament, I just had to break away from the Blackhawks logo and go with the Ranger's liberty logo. Classic, and is the pride and joy of New York.
