CHL Logo Map

View CHL Map in a larger map

The Central Hockey League, the other CHL, grew this summer when it merged with the flailing International Hockey League. The CHL added five IHL teams while losing two of its own — in Amarillo and Corpus Christi. There will be 18 teams competing in the CHL in 2010-11, as seen in this map.

What's funny about this league is most obvious when you layer it with the ECHL map. (Save both to My Maps in your Google account to view them together.) The CHL perfectly fills in the ECHL's geographical gaps across the United States. It's actually quite something.

Compared with similar minor hockey leagues, the CHL is rather spread out. It's stretches from the Dakotas to the north all the way to the Mexican border, and from Arizona to Ohio. No wonder the league has been so unstable for years. Travel must be a nightmare.

I'm thinking the SPHL may be the next logo map. That or the USHL. Also have the NAHL and BCHL on the short list. Stay tuned.

The USHL will be fun. It is a very Iowa-heavy league. If Mason City/Northern Iowa joined back in, that would be amazing. I'm looking forward to that map!
A USHL logo contest would be cool too.

You should try to do a KHL map! We don't hear much about this league except for their players. I don't know all the teams and their layout (I've heard it is pretty large) and I'm pretty sure not everyone does either.

Dayton Gems! That's where I live. I haven't been to a game there though since I'm currently attending Ohio State. I've heard they're nothing to brag about though. haha

Did you hear?!? The Lightning just switched affiliates and have signed the Everblades to be the Bolts' AA Minor League Team!

(As a Naples resident, I practically live at Germain Arena during hockey season)

Not to be nit pickey but the Fort Wayne Komets logo ( where I'm from) looks way too far north, almost in Michigan. Also if you look at the CHL's schedule you play the teams around you 11- 16 times a season and then a few random teams spread out through out the season.

Brian, I live in Cape Coral and I'm just as thrilled about Bolts prospects playing for the Blades. When does hockey season start?!

Ryne, zoom into the map a bit and you'll see why the logos appear so far north. Basically the anchor point for the logo is the bottom of the 50×50 pixel square image. So the farther out you zoom, the farther north the logo appears to move. Just a little kink with Google Maps.

It feels so odd to have a map of the CHL and not have the Oklahoma City Blazers smack dab in the middle.

How about a KHL map?

Just curious...

I'm not opposed to a KHL map, but the trouble is collecting all of the logos. SportsLogos.net has a few teams, but not all. I can do it, but I'd rather get through the North American leagues first.

Your right Chris, I just realized that.

Ryne: I am from the Fort Wayne area, but now live in New Jersey. What do think about them "going" to the CHL? I would have much rather them moved to the ECHL, but I am not sure Franke wants to foot the bill for a franchise cost. Given the attendance and everything, I don't get why he doesn't.

I miss the Austin Ice Bats!

A KHL map please!

All the logos are on the KHL official website!

Very interesting point about combining the CHL and ECHL maps.
The result is about 37 teams spread out reasonably well.
I think they should combine them and get rid of the 7 weakest franchises and then every AHL team could have their own affiliate.
