NHL Unveils Stadium Series Logo
The NHL held a press conference in New York today make the 2014 Stadium Series official. Four of next winter's six outdoor NHL games will be played under this banner, the centerpiece of which is a pair set for Yankee Stadium. The Rangers will face the Devils and the Islanders at the baseball venue.
As a reminder, here's schedule of games planned for the open air next season:
- Wed., Jan. 1 — WINTER CLASSIC: Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs, Michigan Stadium
- Sat., Jan. 25 — Kings vs. Ducks, Dodger Stadium
- Sun., Jan. 26 — Rangers vs. Devils, Yankee Stadium
- Wed., Jan. 29 — Rangers vs. Islanders, Yankee Stadium
- Sat., Mar. 1 — Blackhawks vs. Penguins, Soldier Field
- Sun., Mar. 2 — HERITAGE CLASSIC: Canucks vs. Senators, B.C. Place
It begins Jan. 1 with the yearly tradition of the Winter Classic — this one in Ann Arbor, Mich. — and culminates with the more infrequent Heritage Classic in Vancouver. In between, we get four more games called the Stadium Series. That's it in a nutshell.
But no big event goes unbranded in the sports world these days. That is to say we'll have no shortage of logos and special uniforms for these six match-ups. While we'll have to wait to see what the sweaters will look like, the logos are already here.
First, there are the Winter Classic and Heritage Classic logos — which have their own distinct styles. Then, the three Stadium Series games, which are all the same and generic but for the city name.
The version shown at the top of this post features all three cities and I assume is used when discussing the Stadium Series in general as opposed to any individual game. There's also a version that includes the sponsor, Coors Light. But the logo patches that will be used on the jerseys will probably not include the sponsor — just like the Winter Classic and Heritage Classic.
The jerseys remain the only question mark. We got the Winter Classic jerseys (officially) back in April. But there are nine other teams I expect to see something new from. Garth Snow has already said a special uniform is in the pipeline for the Isles. Probably the same story for all teams involved.

The make that logo without the famed Yankee lattice work? whats the point of a logo at this point?!?
Looks great for a "Winter Classic logo" Lets hope that the players will play great. Maybe we can see a game at Citi-Field one day.
Awful...so generic...it's almost NFL bad....would it be that hard to make 3 logos> No...we'll just make 1 and it will be interchangeable...
Very interesting. Though I cannot stand waiting to hear about what uniforms they're going to break out for these games, I am outright ecstatic. But hey, we need to take the small steps that lead up to the main event!
These Outdoor games plus the Ducks and Panthers 20 year Anniversary plans have me and I'm sure plenty of others really excited. Don't forget the Wild, the Habs, (Though their plans sound like they might have been scrapped... for now.) Sharks, Sabres, (They are looking like a disaster already. :s ) the Flames even, (Maybe) on top of the teams that have unveiled new looks already except Carolina, sorry but, they blew it... big tiiiiiiime. Wow, I can't wait for the next JerseyWatch! My goodness, this might be the best year for this site's JerseyWatches ever, besides the 2007/08 season of course.
As a Devils fan I would be shocked if they wore anything other than the red/green sweaters.
Probably a cost-cutting move. I wonder if they have to pay the stadium owners for stadium likeness rights(?)... After all, I'm sure they are selling merchandise with these logos, maybe they are just trying to keep the profit instead of having to pay out a percentage to each host site.
I would like to see the Devils use a variation of the jersey they have in a display case at Prudential Center. Not too much different from their old red, green and white home jerseys but it did have the ties at the collar and a different logo. Circular crest with a devil-like dragon(?) over the state of NJ.
I would be pretty surprised if the Canucks didn't wear the Millionaires jerseys from last season, considering the Millionaires played the Senators for the Stanley cup 99 years earlier.. I also have heard the Senators are going to wear a white version of their current black 'O' logo jersey.
Hi everyone I found this on the EA sports NHL facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151845653475996&set=a.434709745995.226831.333387460995&type=1
In this photo EA used the sens alternate logo that is on their alternate jersey.
I've heard the Canucks will re-cycle the Millionaires uniforms they wore vs the Wings last season. Not sure if true b
just something I heard is happening and for of all reasons, low sales on the Millionaires sweaters
@JP Very interesting that they used the Sens' Heritage Logo. With the rumor of a white/off-white 'O' jersey for the Heritage Classic, I wOnder if it is a sign of things to come. I also notice that the Ducks' logo is their wordmark logo and one thing that I find to be very odd is that the Coyotes logo is turned about 45 degrees to the right. Thanks for sharing that.
11 teams involved in the outdoor games, so are we really going to see 11 brand new jersey designs?? or will some teams re-use existing 3rd or 'vintage jerseys, for example LA could bring back the purple / yellow jerseys they used a couple of years ago......
An outdoor game in Vancouver in March? The teams better bring swim fins.
