Report: Black sweater would feature gold stripes
Take a good hard look. This jersey or something like it may be an option for Canada during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, according to an anonymous report.
On a tip provided by a secondhand source through 25stanley.com, I asked frequent Icethetics concept contributor Steven Grant to illustrate his interpretation of the tipster's description. While I'm not able to publish the description provided to Icethetics, I can tell you that Steven has done an excellent job bringing it to life.
Whether or not it's accurate remains to be seen. We should find out for sure on Oct. 8. That's when Hockey Canada and Nike are planning to unveil the new 2014 uniforms.
The tip actually came prior to Roberto Luongo spilling the beans publicly on the fact that Canada will have three jerseys — unless it was just misinformation. According to Wyatt Arndt, a blogger for The Province in Vancouver, Luongo said he's seen the jerseys but wouldn't comment further.
Concept artist imagines white version of leaked jersey
As all of Canada surely knows by now, the country's new red jersey was leaked via Getty Images on Thursday. With that in mind, I asked Steven Grant to illustrate that jersey as well as a white version.
From the leaked photo, it's not clear whether the white stripe across the front wraps around to the back. So for the sake of simplicity when it comes to the back numbers, Steven has cut off the stripe along the sides. He's also guessing that the glossy elements on the shoulders are maple leaves.
Steven then created an inverted white version. And to insert some symmetry into an otherwise asymmetrical jersey, Steven's white version has the lone sleeve stripe on the opposite arm. Other than that, the jersey has all the same features with the red swapped for white.
Canadians, what do you think? A black third jersey for the Olympics? How often would you want to see your team sporting it? Among these three designs, do you have a favorite?

As for the new Red and white.. They actually look miles better than in the picture with Toews.. So that brings me some hope that maybe they'll look a little sharper with the equipment and such underneath.
Going to be an interesting Olympics in the hockey world.
I can go with the white version. That looks nice. The red I am not too enamoured with still. The black one? Interesting, but I don't know what the yellow stripes are supposed to represent. I guess the black and yellow concept is to continue the "Live Strong" concept (much like the womens team did last season).
We'll see I guess when they unveil it in a few weeks. I am really hoping that they consider a redesign of the red jersey but I guess after all the design work they went through with them they won't do that. I'm really not pleased with Nike and what they've done.
I also like the White one the most but it still looks amateurish at best. Still looks like they slapped the Petro Canada logo on the front 1/5 stars for me
The black one is really cool, even without a logo. It reminds me of two jerseys, Canada's mustard throwback that they wore in the World Cup of Hockey (http://www.gamewornauctions.net/products/Team_Canada_World_Cup_of_Hockey_Authentic_Jersey_2004-1170-47.html), as well as the "Livestrong" alternate that the Canadian women wore (http://www.ctvnews.ca/sports/team-canada-black-and-yellow-a-tribute-to-cancer-fight-not-armstrong-1.1219209). Now I REALLY can't wait for October 8th!

We have had a black third before , Even a Gold 3rd and i liked them both , Im happy its black what other color would it be LOL other then the color we win GOLD
And I thought a jersey couldn't be worse than the leaked Canada one. I was Wrong.
Canada is a country with a lot of freedom in its color scheme. Despite none of these colors being included in our flag, we've successfully pulled off black, green and yellow in our sports jerseys. Having said that, the concept for the black jersey above is awesome to me. I can't wait to see the real deal, and I can't wait to see Team Canada sporting those beauties.
Those black jerseys are awful and honestly I think all these new Olympic jerseys are a disgrace. The necks look so bad makes them look like some knock off longs sleeve crew necks. And the fake laces resemble those God-awful football collars with the streaks on them. I really hope the NHL doesn't sign with NIKE when Reeboks contracts up cause they'll ruin the sweaters. Just my opinion
Hi everyone ! I know it is only for interpretation but theoretically if those are Olympics jerseys you can not have the IIHF logo on the back which is common on jerseys for the World Championship. Unless it was part of the description.
I like them all. the black one is a little plain... but I like the idea of it. If the black jersey gets one game, that would be fine. Usually on the world stage the 3rd will get used maybe once. I like the white one a lot tho. Especially if the waist stripe wraps all the way around
Much like my dad used to say when the in-laws came to visit, the more they come the worse they get. These are the definition of unimaginative.
The black and mustard sweater is obviously a reference to the Winnipeg Falcons, the team that won the first Olympic gold in hockey for Canada in 1920. They have worn a throwback version before in the World Cup.

It is not a "Livestrong" sweater. And Canada regularly wears a black alternate at international events, so this should be no surprise. The only strange thing is not having matching stripe patterns on the other sleeve. Simply doing that would change this uniform set to being "not terrible."

Wissem: Correct, the IIHF logo would not appear on Olympic jerseys. I think it was just part of the template Steven was working from and he didn't bother to remove it.
That's not what the black one looks like, I've seen it, it has gold striping in it though.
Jay, Nike has dropped Livestrong as a sub-brand so there's 100% no correlation with this leaked one and the women's IIHF one. As said before in other posts most likely a tip of the hat to the 1920 Falcons.
I hate these. Canada had an identity in 2010. The jerseys worked. They looked like classic Hockey sweaters. Go back to those uniforms.
Well, it's certainly the BEST of the olympic designs so far. Still hate the faux laces and the shiny elements, and the crewneck collar kinda bugs me for a hockey sweater, but the overall layout of the striping and crest is really beautiful to my eye. I kinda LIKE the one-sleeve-stripe. I can see why there are complaints about it looking Swiss or that it's based off a petroleum company logo, but for a non-Canadian, this would get 3 stars out of 5 for me, with the only reason it's not higher is because of the aforementioned collar, laces, and shiny elements (HUGE DEDUCTIONS for that crap).
Again, I really wish Nike wouldn't try to Oregon-Ducks-ify everything into a Pro Combat style. That glossy crap has to go. Hockey is grit, blood, and toughness, not sparkle and shine. I'm all for trying new jersey patterns (although I'll vote for traditional striping every day of the week and twice on Sunday), but shiny crap has to go on a hockey sweater. Otherwise it's just a bunch of Ice Follies dancers with sticks and pads in my book.

I doubt the white jersey would have a white maple leaf. Even the 2012 olympics red jersey had a red leaf. It's like the Swiss having the white cross on theirs. It will always be there, otherwise, it wouldn't be the Swiss. The white red jersey will have a red leaf, so will the white one. If it doesn't....well, that just isn't Canada. It's Petro Canada, like everyone says.
Isn't it considered bad luck when Canada wears a black third jersey? They bombed in 02 when they wore one, scrapped it for the rest of the tournament, and I thought they vowed never to wear another one after they won gold.
Corbeaunoir, Canada has actually had very good luck in black as only one formulation of Team Canada has ever lost in black, which was in the World Jrs. In 2002 (Olympics) Canada's only loss was to Sweden in the first game of the tournament in which they wore red.
I get the third jersey. I really do. It's a tribute to the Winnipeg Falcons, the first Canadian Olympic team ever, in 1920. They wore gold and black. That's why Canada wore that gold sweater for a game or two back in 2006 I think it was.
But this business of having striping on one sleeve and not the other is ridiculous. Especially on the red jersey - where having one giant stripe with a tiny Canadian flag in the middle of it looks unbelievably lazy and tacky.
I do like the front of the red jersey, but the rest of it is horrible.

I prefer this white jersey to the one that was leaked yesterday. A couple small touches make this one better in my opinion. First the red collar on this jersey adds a little bit of needed colour. Secondly the red nike logo beats the black one displayed in the leak.
