IceHL Artist Spotlight

Our IceHL logo voting schedule says we're taking today off. But no new poll doesn't mean no new content. This afternoon I wanted to mention the people behind the amazing logos you're voting on. After all, they didn't just happen out of thin air. Twenty-five amazing logo designers put their time and talents into this project.

Throughout the next six weeks of the voting process, you'll be hearing from many of these designers — from their educational and professional backgrounds to their inspirations for their IceHL logo designs. On days when we don't have new polls, expect to see an Artist Spotlight.

We'll profile the first artist on Friday but today I'm offering an overview the entire group. Artists will be listed along with their finalist logos. (A quick disclaimer before we start, the Chris Smith listed here is NOT me.)

All 25 artists have done incredible work to be here at this point in the project. But only a third of the logos you see above will actually represent IceHL teams come September. Voting picks up again tomorrow with the New York Guardians — one of the toughest choices you'll have to make over the next six weeks.

We'll take a break this weekend (my brother's getting married) but I hope to have some Artist Spotlights ready that will auto-post. Then it's back to the voting grind on Monday morning.

I always look forward to Six Zero, Rocco and SeanCox designs. Oh, Sigma Kappa and Mike Ivall too!

Is there a way that you could tag each logo so we know what team it was designed for? All the logos are awesome!

To Tulsa23: You bet. When I get a chance I'll add "alt" text indicating the team for each of the graphics so a tool tip will pop up when you roll your mouse over it.

I call shenanigans! Chris Smith gets to see the submissions of his competitors! I can envision him, laughing hysterically (while wearing his RBK Lightning jersey), wringing his hands, admiring the brilliance of his scheme.

I'm onto you!!

Just kidding. Welcome back Icethetics.

You've got the same Winnipeg logo displayed under both ROCCOT & PHO3NIX's credits. Did they collaborate for this one?

Thanks for doing this post Chris. It's fun to take a look at each designer's work as a whole. I only wish I had made more time to design for additional teams! I'm jealous of the guys who were able to put so much time and effort into this project. Great work everyone.

Chris, maybe it's just me, but for some reason are the logos by Pho3nix and the last one by Roccot the same?

To Ty & Kevin Y: It's not you. The Winnipeg Winterhawks logo to which you're referring was the result of a collaborative effort between Roccot and Pho3nix.

I posted this in another section, but I think it would be more appropriate here:

I'm a casual browser of this site and a web-designer by trade. I love the content on this website and I'm always impressed with the logos people submit, but I'd really like to know more about the people creating them. I know you do a little spotlight post, but they are buried pages in. It would be cool if each artist's name linked to their portfolio site or even a profile on this website, something that would give us more information. Assuming that these contributors don't mind sharing their portfolios xD.

For obvious reasons, I wouldn't dare trying to google a name like "Chris Smith," lol.
