I have no designing skills but I would love to see the Texas Outlaws logo have an "Outlaw" (maybe on a horse) with the state of Texas in the background.
I know their current logo creator already has something in mind for Boston, but I was looking at some Revolutionary War uniforms and was thinking an off white or cream color instead of white might be worth a look. Maybe just make a white and off white can be submitted to see if it works.
For Washington, how about playing up the Marine Corps aspect of their uniforms? Since there are so many teams with navy blue as their jersey color, how about playing down that blue and making the red that is already in their color scheme more prominent? Look at the flag for the United States Marine Corps. Red is the main color and gold is the secondary color. Both colors are already in the Sentinels color scheme, but I'm thinking maybe make blue more of an accent, or just used in the logo for the Sentinel figure kinda like the only red in the Winnipeg Jets uniform is for the flag on the logo. Also, would the guard holding a hockey stick be too corny?
For color reference:

How about for Montreal play up the Olympiques angle as greek gods (from Mount Olympus) instead of Olympic athletes? Get rid of the foot logo too! Or at least make that a skate! There are no bare feet in hockey. How about a pegasus or something in there? Zeus throwing a lighting bolt maybe.
For Calgary, I like their current colors, but maybe merge it with the suggested colors and replace the blue with black? Then again red would look good too. I would just hate to see that burnt orange go away.
For Texas Outlaws, I'm thinking that either the shape of Texas or the Texas flag needs to be in there somewhere since they did just have a name change that only included the state's name. Maybe an outlaw using the flag as a scarf?
Colonials: I like the current logo as is, except that it looks a bit too much like the Patriots' "Flying Elvis" logo. I'd go for a "buff & blue" look, but it might look too similar to the George Washington University's logo (their nickname's also the Colonials) Hmmmmm...
Stallions: I say we keep the current horse head logo...should we keep the rider on the secondary though?
Olympiques: Switch the logo orders to how it is on the jersey...the "M-medallion" as the primary and the winged foot as the secondary.
Outlaws: Kinda disappointed that the vote went to "Texas" when there's a team in Houston too. Also, I think "Outlaws" is kinda overused (I'd've liked to see it go in one of the "Second Thoughts" polls you have up there)...but still, I hope somebody does SOMETHING fresh with it.
Sentinels: KEEP IT. Love the tribute to the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
A few ideas:
Montreal Olympiques: I really like the current 2ndry logo and think that some sort of modification of it could serve as a powerful primary if the focus is brought on the torch/flame combo. Having the flame or torch surrounded by either an M (as in the current 2nd) or an O (similar to the O of the Ottawa Senator's throwback) would still harken to the olympics idea but also provide an alternative focus - the flame/fire.
Texas Outlaws: Keeping a simple logo is the way I would like to see it taken. Incorporating handcuffs, a bandana or barbed wire in some way would be able to speak to the outlaw theme as a whole.
To any designers that are coming up with ideas for the Dallas Outlaws --
Please know that Texans are one of a kind. We have more pride in our state than you can imagine. If you want your design to win follow these simple rules:
1. Give us a logo that features our state: The shape of Texas is just beautiful, it could not be more aesthetically pleasing. (btw the only reason we put up with the pan-handle is because it makes our outline look better.)
2. Incorporate our symbols: The yellow rose of Texas, Bluebonnets, The Lone Star flag, Pecan trees, Mocking birds, Jerry Jones -- its not just all cows and Cowboys.
3. Always remember -- Texas is bigger and better than wherever it is you are from; unless you are from Texas...and in that case, 'Howdy.'
For all my belly-aching about the Lumberjacks not changing their name, if somebody wants a idea to play with.. (and as I have zero art ability) here is something to work off of.
To move away from the look of the Canucks and Giants, develop an identity around a Beaver, natures lumberjack. It would need a main logo with a cartoon beaver taking a slapshot, and a shoulder patch of a stick or two being gnawed on by two big beaver teeth.
Colors are Dark Brown, Tan, Red, & Black. And jerseys would look as if a vest was worn on top of a traditional plaid lumberjack shirt. Yes there would be a bit of color overlap with the giants but in this presentation it should look different enough that the identities will differ more than enough.
Dark uniforms:
Jersey main body in dark brown, red with black plaid pattern on arms. Shorts should be tan with a red strip on side or accent.
Nameplate and numbering should look as if cut from a crosscut of a tree with extra tan layer help stand out.
Light uniforms:
Jersey main body in tan, black with red plaid on arms. Shorts in dark brown with black strip on side or accent.
Nameplate and numbering should have the same look without the extra tan layer.
Socks and other bit's I would leave up to the artist to see what works with the rest of their look.
If anyone actually wants to run with this idea and wants further input, comment & let me know. (especially if it's a local Vancouver artist).
The best idea for the Lumberjacks? I doubt it. Something different enough to be viable? Possibly, it certainly could lead to possibilities to develop the team identity further...
-- They could play at the Dam Rink...
-- The logo could be the team mascot??? Maybe named Chipper???
-- Sell BeaverTails at the concessions....
Point taken, and many school teams at various levels do too, doesn't mean it can't be used here.
If the Vancouver team was able to use elements from active NHL and WHL franchises for the last few years, why should it matter if they use something from an IHL team (heck league) that folded over a decade ago. Plus different art would be used, and it would need to look completely different than "Buzz" (which IMO didn't look all that great to begin with.)
The excuse that something been done before has already been ignored within the IceHL, (heck disqualify the Lumberjack name as a whole if Cleveland's usage is a concern) so if someone was to use the idea and it came out well, there is little to no reason not to consider it as a possibility.
Of course this means nothing if no one uses the idea, and if that is the case..... no big whoop.

This site is the best.

Is it ok to manipulate a letter from the Photoshop or MS Word database? Or does that fall under the clipart category?
I agree about the old Sentinels logo. It was amazing. Just my two cents.

A cartoon beaver was the mascot of the IHL Cleveland Lumberjacks in the 90s.

In case anyone is looking for what used to be in this post, I've updated it and moved it to a new location.
