Rangers Alter Sweaters?

Apparently a handful of New York Rangers players have altered the back of the sweaters. Pictures taken at last night's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins indicate that the "tail" seems to have been cropped on a handful of jerseys.

It seems too straight to be a fold caught in the moment by the camera. That's why I'm assuming it's been cut. That, and the Rangers are our rebel-without-a-cause for the moment. (No, NHL, we don't like your web sites. Lawsuit. No, Reebok, we don't like your jerseys. Scissors.) Don't mind me, I'm easily amused.

The interesting thing is that this alteration wasn't made on all of the jerseys. So that leads me to believe it was a decision made by individual players and not the club as a whole.

What do you guys think about this? I know a lot of you were opposed to the curved hem at the bottom. Is this an improvement or does it just make the jersey look awkward?

It will be interesting to see what they did with the dark jerseys where the real diaper effect is more noticeable.

I think it actually is more apparent on the road whites since the rounded hemline contrasts with the colored stripes. On the home blues, the rounded hemline is the third "stripe."

But yeah, although I was sort of getting used to it, good to see that the players aren't oblivious to how stupid they look.

I guess they'll do whatever it takes to get the offense going.

i like what they did (Although im not 100% sure what they did) the thing i like is that they are doing things that might piss off reebok i would like to see them skate on the ice all wearing CCM jerseys

finally, a team with common sense (about how fugly the RBK templates look; not actual performance on ice)!

detroit should follow suit. "screw you nhl and rbk. we're the detroit f'ing red wings"

I would like to see all the teams bring back their old CCM jerseys and show Rbk what a hockey jersey is suppose to look like. I love the sight Chris keep up the good work. Also love the concept jerseys!

Charles,

CCM is RBK now...and vice versa. RBK bought the name.

As much as I hate the Rangers and their inflated payroll loving practices, good for them! I hope more players follow suit and Reebok just changes the design to a more tradition straight cut.

I think it looks fifteen million times better and Good For Them.

i read somewhere that the nhl will fine players/team if there are alterations to jerseys or if jerseys are too big and loose fitting.

it seems that tucking in the jersey (like gretzky) is against the rules.

Tucking in is against the rules? Someone tell Jagr. He looks like a total jackass. And he tucks in his jersey too. :-P

You are right AWILDERMODE.
The NHL said in this past year that it would fine players who alter their new jerseys.

I can't find the link now that I am here at work of course, but I just read it last night at home while I was looking up articles on how Crosby made RBK change the water wick formula to allow for more sweat absorbtion.

I'm glad someone is doing something about the stupid tails. I can't stand seeing them flop in the wind as a skater screams down the ice at about 14% faster of a speed than last year.

I think I'll just start relating everything I speak on in percentages...lol

Seriously, I don't think Crosby made RBK do anything. Crosby was endorsed in the beginning of the design process and was assigned as the poster boy. I'm sure it was a PR move to put his face on all the complaints and make him look like the royalty of the NHL. At this point RBK is very fragile right now and need to protect their baby and smooth over the Edge controvesy. Besides deep down does Crosby really care about 14% faster here, 10% lighter there...

He only cares if his wallet gets 10% lighter.

Charlie,
If you're trying to dog on Sid, which I do not endorse, why would he want his wallet to be lighter? If you're proposing he is interested in money wouldn't he then want his wallet to be heavier?

Good for the Rangers.

The tail doesn't look bad on all jerseys, just the ones with a horizontal strip along the bottom. One of the worst things Reebok did was make these traditional jerseys look stupid.

The diaper effect is quite atrocious. I'm not surprised some players are taking matters into their own hands to avoid looking silly. That being said, I think all Rangers should keep the diaper effect. It suits their on-ice play this year.

NHL Jeff,

It's a two way swing...if you care about money, you care if it gets heavier or lighter...especially lighter.

In this particular scenario, if the Edge system flops, his takes some hit points in the old marketability/credibility department...thus possibly prompting a slight decrease in total tonnage of his wallet.
