Poll Removed Temporarily
Dear NHLToL readers,
It's a really sad and pathetic thing when a handful of arrogant and uneducated people decide they have to ruin something that was only meant to be fun. I'm appalled by what happened with the Canadiens vs. Blues poll last night.
For anyone who is unaware, I've taken taken it down today indefinitely. In checking the results when I woke up this morning, I discovered almost 60,000 votes had been cast while just over 30,000 hits were logged on the site itself during the day. If you're thinking that those numbers don't match up, you'd be right. I've tried really hard to avoid this but since I know what was going on was a sham, I am unable to continue with the poll right now.
I will, however, still continue to write this blog and post other polls, but I don't feel it would be right to continue with the tournament at this time. I hope to reopen it soon and avoid a repeat of yesterday's events.
Now I'd like to address those responsible: I'm sure you think you're just the coolest right now. I would imagine many other people, myself included, would disagree. It was a childish and immature stunt that I hope will not be repeated. Everyone here knows this tournament doesn't have any real meaning. If that was your point, way to state the obvious. Congratulations.
All I was merely trying to do this summer was offer a simple respite to those waiting for hockey season to start up again. We're all hockey fans here and it seemed like this would be something fun to pass the time. So I set up this hole-in-the-wall blog and started posting polls. I'm saddened that you refuse to take it for what it is.
I would ask you to please avoid the temptation to do the same thing when I re-post this poll in the future. I don't know why you did it. I don't care. I would just like it to stop. It's entirely unnecessary.
If you would like to address me personally, you can email me at nhllogos@gmail.com.
Thank you.
Chris

Well said. I really appreciated and enjoyed the work that you did. You were just doing your own little thing trying to create something positive. Unfortunately, there are degenerates out there who aren't happy unless they're tearing other people or their work down; how they look at themselves in the mirror is beyond me.
It's sad and stupid that people have come to this over a meaningless internet poll. Hopefully you can find some idiot-proof poll out there, perhaps one that required a word verification?
Unreal.. What goes through the minds of people like that? How could they attach so much importance to something that was so obviously just a fun way to pass the time?
Maybe it's a case of popularity breeds jealousy, I don't know. Boggles my mind.
Well Chris, hopefully you can find a more secure way of polling or something for the future. We shouldn't *have* to worry about the odd person beating the system, but apparently we do because someone's or someones' ego(s) couldn't be kept in check.
High school all over again.
Go to hell stupid cheaters Internet is full of retards who ruin the fun of the majority.
Thank you Chris for posting this comment and please come back with the pool soon so that the Blues can win.
The only limit to humain mind is it's stupidity,
You could make people vote in the comments, I guess. Requires word verification. Sad that you have to go to that length.
I don't know what it is, but anytime you mix the internet and sports, things seem to go south quickly. Why are people such idiots?
Some idiot loser(s) are out there with a sprained index finger.
Chris has worked his ass off on this project and you have tried to take away the integrity and fun away for everyone involved who enjoys visiting the blog and participating in the voting.
Grow up, get a job, and get a life you spamming scumbag.
I wonder which team's fans pulled the stunt...guess it really doesn't matter.
The only problem with the poll is that nobody was supposed to be allowed to vote more than once for each poll but people were able to revote right away, all they had to do is to close their browser and relogged and vote. By the way, don't blame me for what happened after all i've vote only 10 times on the last poll. So if they was 30 000 irregulars votes that means that 2 999 did just like me !
By the way, this what we should have done, give us your personnal top 5 or top 10 best logo in the league and why you vote for them.
probably a bunch of geeks with nothing else better to do. I thought that halo game came out the other day so you think they would have been kept at bay.
wow... i can't believe what some people would do to have their favorite team win a logo tournament for fun... keep going strong chris! love the blog.
The word vandalism comes to mind.
I find it very upsetting that people have to go and ruin a fun thing.
Great job Chris, and I hope we can track down those people and block their IP's.
Forget about us: don't let them ruin it for you!
That really is a shame. I have enjoyed this blog all summer, and it really has helped with the hockey withdrawl. This is how these things end though, and it will always be a bummer that the few ruin it for the many. Hopefully things are fixed up soon. I look forward to more polls, and the completion of the current one (even though my Wings were eliminated early on). Maybe you should make a concept jersey poll; compile a couple of the best concepts for teams, and let fans vote on one of the jerseys; the current, old, and concept jersey for the team. Just an idea...
God damned assholes huh?
You've done well here Chris. I would have voted for the Habs logo.
How the hell did the Blues get to the Finals?????? You got too many peeps representing in St. Lou, Chris?
It was a couple of Blues' fans that did this. So I think the Oilers should be reinstated in the finals, because St. Louis' win was tainted.
It's a shame that a few can ruin things for the whole. I was truly interested in how the Bluenote would stand against the classic CH. I even told some other people about this poll so they could vote also. I wonder if it would be possible for you to discredit the illegal votes? When I last look, the Habs were leading by about 115 votes (approx 1215 vs 1100).
Perhaps you could reset the vote to that amount or even reset the poll? It would probably be in vain though, since the same people would likely cheat on the vote again.
Anyhow, I would like to thank you for your efforts at some form of hockey entertainment. The off-season is terribly long and I can't wait to see my team (Habs) back in action!
cheers chris.
no one will understand why some computer nerds have to go out and ruin a beautiful thing.
any way to move onto the next tournament and scrap the final?
hahahaha 'since the blues win was tainted, the oilers should be reinstated' hahaha are you serious?? i agree it was childish but you guys take this WAY too seriously.l
No, the Blues fans weren't the ones that did this. At about 8:30 last night the Blues were in the lead but not by much when within about 15 minutes the Canadians logged about 1000 votes. Within 2 hours the Canadians logged over 10,000 votes. The Blues had been winning fair and square (just as they did when they beat the oil spill) when a CANADIANS fan decided to rig the vote and obviously a Blues fan somewhere decided to play along. It is a shame that this poll got screwed up. Don't hate the Blues because they did a better job of cheating :)
"How the hell did the Blues get to the finals??????"
Perhaps it's because the Bluenote is the best logo in all of sports.
If this were a Tournament of Abbreviations then the Canadians would win hands down.
Some people just don't care about us having a little fun, they just feel like ruining the whole process because it gives them something to chuckle about. The problem is that this will most likely happen again if the poll comes back up just because they genuinely don't care, which is odd since they will probably care enough to come back and ruin it again
Actually , the poll was very tight with a very small advance (around 50 votes) for the blues then suddenly the total voting Then suddently the poll went from around 2 500 votes to 20 000 in less than a minute for both side. I've suspect a glitch in the poll that someone used to cheat.
Except that it didn't go up for both sides. It went up 10000+ for the Canadiens.....
Sad that somebody felt the need to cheat. I know the Blues had a slight advantage yesterday, but I didn't see it after the cheating started. Did the cheating work for both teams? And how did they expect to not be noticed?
Sad. Just Sad.
Only Chris could told us what happened and what was the last poll before the final removal.
