Sabres Getting A Third?
Thursday · Feb 21 · 2008 | 1:13 PM PSTA reader sent in this link to a story about the uniforms for the Winter Classic. In it, Buffalo Sabres Managing Partner Larry Quinn suggests that the team will be wearing a retro third jersey in the future. He doesn't say specifically it would be worn next season but we do know several teams will have thirds beginning in the fall. I'm going to go ahead and add it to the sidebar with an unspecified date.

Yea, we all knew the Sabres would return to their original third jerseys from last year. Maybe we didn't know, but it was pretty much implied that we'd get them back.
although some may not like this idea, but i think it would be a neat idea if Buffalo updated the vintage logo. maybe something along the line of Jon Slabyk's design.
How about a compromise... Make the retro the official colors jersey, and keep the slug relegated to the whites.
Sure, I'd much rather see the slug relegated to the bottom of a landfill, but I'd happily take 41 games a year of the vintage, or even updated vintage.
drew, how about the vintage logo on the new blue and gold uniforms? that way its bringing the old generation to the new generation.
Brian, funny you should mention that... I've seen some damn good looking versions of just that on eBay. I'm even going to pick one up myself. ;-) I'd be all for that.

Search for "Buffalo concept jersey" on eBay. And I know someone who has one, and he says the quality is absolutely top notch.

The Sabres are supposed to darken the throwbacks to match the dark blue of the current slug jersey...Why? Who the F really knows but teh rumor was supposedly chalked up to "inconsistencies in the blue fabric stock" of the original color of the Sabres jersey. Maybe the difference wasn't noiticed in the past, but now with a lot of teams doing TV testing (like the Capitals with Comcast), I suppose HD TV could expose the difference in the color gradients.
I'm betting a left testicle the Sabres will most likely keep the numbers on the front too, and lessen the amount of stripes on the socks to more reflect the less than authentic striping pattern that we saw on the whites during the winter classic.
So it won't be a true throwback, but even with the modifications will still look pretty good in my opinion.
And there probably will be a Bass Pro Shop ad on the crotch of the pants.
