Predators vs Oilers

vs
PREDATORS
OILERS
3-2
1-4

The Aesthetics
Normally, too much detail and too much color would kill a team pretty quickly, but I really don't like words in logos. The Oilers logo's main saving grace is its simplicity and color scheme. The Predators may have had it but for the minute detail in the logo.
Oilers

The Nickname
The Predator would totally eat the Oiler. The poor guy would never stand a chance.
Predators

The Analysis
Again, both logos are more than appropriate for their respective teams. I'm getting the Oilers here for their use of the team name in what should be more symbolic. That and I love the Predators logo. I actually bought a Predators jersey when I was in Nashville a few years ago just because the logo is so cool.

Blues vs Canucks

vs
BLUES
CANUCKS
4-1
0-1

The Aesthetics
This is a tough one so we'll cut right to the end here. The color scheme in the Canucks logo is so much cooler. Give them a point, please.
Canucks

The Nickname
Hmm. We're going to say that Canucks are outdoorsy, lumberjack-types who could totally beat up a Blues-playing saxist. Right?
Canucks

The Analysis
As much as I like the Canucks logo, it just doesn't really seem to represent the team name very well. On the other hand, a musical note is the best way of symbolizing the Blues.

Blues vs Blackhawks

vs
BLUES
BLACKHAWKS
3-1
1-3

The Aesthetics
The simple design and straightforward color scheme of the Blues logo starkly contrasts the Blackhawks. We know that Blackhawks colors are red, black and white from their uniforms, but then why does the logo also have green, yellow, blue, orange and tan? The world may never know. Clean up your act, Blackhawks logo.
Blues

The Nickname
A Blackhawk indian could do a rain dance. Can the Blues man do that?
Blackhawks

The Analysis
Both teams have appropriate logos though neither goes out of its way to represent its home city graphically. Ultimately its the simplicity and clean, sleek look of the Blues logo that wins it the point.

Predators vs Ducks

vs
PREDATORS
DUCKS
2-2
0-3

The Aesthetics
You know, despite having won the Stanley Cup this year, the Anaheim Ducks sure have one lame logo. I love the colors, but ditch the wordmark you have plastered all over the front of your jerseys. The Predators, on the other hand, have one kick-ass logo. I wonder who wins if they go up against the Panthers.
Predators

The Nickname
The Predator eats the Duck. Any questions?
Predators

The Analysis
The Predators have a very appropriate name and a rather fierce logo. But the Ducks could use some help. I'm all for losing the "Mighty" from the name but let's do something with the logo, already. Even the duck foot in the form of a "D" would be better than what they have now. Another sweep against the Ducks here.

Wild vs Blues

vs
WILD
BLUES
1-0
3-0

The Aesthetics
These are two very aesthetically strong logos going up against each other here. I could go on all day about their strengths so I'll skip that and get to the point. It goes to the Wild for its color, detail and complexity (not the bad things you thought they were).
Wild

The Nickname
If a jazz man was singing the Blues out in the Wild, he would almost surely attract unwanted attention and, you know, get eaten by a bear.
Wild

The Analysis
This is a hard call to make with such strong logos facing each other. Both have unique colors that set them apart. But do I really need to say it. Just look at that Wild logo? Can anything beat it?

Oilers vs Red Wings

vs
OILERS
RED WINGS
0-3
1-2

The Aesthetics
The Oilers get this point for better use of color and simple design despite the name of the team being in the logo. The Red Wings logo is a little complex.
Oilers

The Nickname
If an Oiler were to accidentally get oil onto a Red Wing, the bird it belonged to would surely be unable to fly.
Oilers

The Analysis
While the Oilers logo is simple, I'm more a fan of the secondary and third jersey logos. They better depict the logo the team should have, in my opinion. On the other hand, the Red Wings logo does a fantastic job of symbolizing Motor City with the wheel attached to the wing.

Blues vs Oilers

vs
BLUES
OILERS
2-0
0-2

The Aesthetics
We certainly get a fair amount of blue between these two logos. That aside, the circle has always been a classic logo shape, but I've always found odd shapes more interesting to look at. The Blues logo features a musical note attached to a wing. My eye is more drawn to it.
Blues

The Nickname
I guess you might say an Oiler could sing the Blues. But who has the upper hand. Since an oil man is a person, though, he has the freedom of choice. He could sing a happy tune if he wanted.
Oilers

The Analysis
Both teams have been in the league for a lot of years and both, in the past decade, have given upgrades to their logos. In fact, the Blues current logo is more of an improvement on the original. But you could also say that about the Oilers as well. It's a very difficult call to make as to which team gets this point, but as far as logos go, I've never liked ones which spell out the team name. The Blues get it.

Blue Jackets vs Flames

vs
BLUE JACKETS
FLAMES
1-0
0-0

The Aesthetics
Here we see two teams with very nice logos. The Flames logo is a great idea if not a little obvious. The Blue Jackets, on the other hand, works in a very subtle "C" and other clever elements that make it more visually appealing. But it was a close one.
Blue Jackets

The Nickname
The Blue Jackets fighting for the Union were great soldiers, but they don't really stand a chance against Flames. Unless their coats happened to be fire retardant. But they weren't.
Flames

The Analysis
Aside from its Civil War history, Columbus' choice for a team named the Blue Jackets seems a little odd to me. I really like the fact that the Flames kept the name after moving from Atlanta to Calgary. The flames inside the "A" for the Atlanta logo goes very well with the "C" currently used. The "A" is even used today as the alternate captain patch on the ice.

Blackhawks vs Oilers

vs
BLACKHAWKS
OILERS
0-3
0-1

The Aesthetics
The Blackhawks logo's lack of a defined color scheme is in stark contrast to the blue, copper and red of the Oilers. Just on pure aesthetics, the Oilers is the much better-looking logo.
Oilers

The Nickname
Chief Black Hawk and and Oiler wouldn't have lived at the same time in history, but if they had, the tomahawk would probably be enough to take out the oil man.
Blackhawks

The Analysis
Based on where the teams got their names from, the Blackhawks would be a shoo-in for the point here. I'm not really sure what Oilers has to do with the city of Edmonton, but we already discussed the background of the Blackhawks. For that reason, the 'Hawks get the edge, but really only barely.

Predators vs Kings

vs
PREDATORS
KINGS
2-1
0-1

The Aesthetics
Both logos seem to have an equal amount of detail, but the Predators make use of more than one or two colors. Aside from black, white and silver, purple is the primary Kings color and there couldn't be a better one. After years of trying to come up with a good logo — failed attempts with purple/yellow and black/silver — the combination of past tries has resulted in a keeper. The Kings, but just by a hair.
Kings

The Nickname
The King rules the land and, if he wanted, could have a Predator of any kind shot dead on the spot. He's powerful.
Kings

The Analysis
The Kings have existed for 40 years but their one claim to fame is that Wayne Gretzky once brought greatness to the locker room. Without him, the team has never really proved itself as a perennial contender of any sort. Still, the logo is top-notch. I only wish they'd kept the coat of arms logo as the primary instead of switching it with the crown. For that reason, the point goes to the Predators, whose story we already know.
