The Charlestown Chiefs in the movie are representatives of the Johnstown Jets from 1950-1977, the Johnstown Chiefs came in 1988 and used the Chiefs name because they couldn't use the Jets name as originally intended. So the Chiefs took the name from the Slap Shot team.
