The Winter Classic 2009 has a logo!

Look familiar? I'm really liking the vintage looks for the Winter Classic logos. This is a trend that's worth keeping. What do you guys think of the new logo?
Big thanks to Mike for the find!

I like the way they incorporated Wrigley into the logo. Pretty standard but overall I think it's pleasing.
Rock Solid logo! Love it!
Looks great! I think that the NHL should give Canada a winter classic too. After all they were the first to stage the game a few years ago in Edmonton. I love the idea of one outdoor game per season, but give Canada a game in the next couple of years.
Awesome logo! but nothing will come close to the one at the Ralph! Best game EVER!
Wicked. Nothing better than nursing a New Year's hangover and watchin' some outdoor hockey!
Vintage works here!
I think that a way that the NHL have to keep for the Winter Classics!
Good logo!
Love it. i think the all star game should be outdoors. and the 2010 should be Calgary @ Edmonton.
Rivals +outdoors =amazing
also like rangers vs Islanders, at new yankee stadium,
or the pens vs flers, at either stadium.
or Detroit @ colorado at mile high(thats a good one)
I dont think that this logo is bad at all. My only concern is that last year with the snow, the conditions werent great and every on was freezing their bums off. Now they moved it more north and to the "windy city." Im not saying it shoud be great weather but you could move the date back to like November/December. You could even call it the Christmas Classic.
to Steve Pumilia: Chicago is geographically south of Buffalo. Having been at the Winter Classic last year i thought the weather was fine last year. the snow was great and really added to the outdoor feel of the game. as for the cold, i didnt find it to bad. granted, by the the end of the game, i couldnt feel anything from the waist down, but thats what happenes when your outdoors in the winter for that long.
the thing that has me slightly worried about this years is that Chicago can get really really cold with sharp, freezing winds (i live in Chicago). the last several years havent been bad but its still possible.
and, although i like the idea, the NHL would never call a game the Christmas Classic because of the whole religious part of it.
for future reference: Chicago is called the "Windy City" because of the crooked politicians from the early-mid 1900s who would blow/be filled with a lot of hot air.
i hope the panthers get one in dolphin stadium
lmao! vince that was good
Further suggestions:
Minnesota Wild hosting it @ TCF Bank Stadium after it opens in Fall 2009 (or at the new Twins Ballpark after it opens in spring 2010)
Columbus Blue Jackets hosting it @ Ohio Stadium
Boston Bruins hosting it @ Gillette Stadium
Or possibly...Winter Capital City Classic-Ottawa Senators vs. Washington Capitals at either RFK Stadium, FedEx Field, or Nationals Park!
what about in denver, up at Invesco Field, some mild high hockey, that would be baller
I feel no sympathy for those at the Winter Classic last year in Buffalo. I was at the original "Heritage Classic" in Edmonton where the temperature was -25 Celsius (-40 with the windchill). Plus there were two games that day, so we were outdoors for 6+ hours. THAT was cold. It's also a reason it's not coming back to Canada anytime soon.
The Winter Classic last year was one of the best experiences in my life. I can't wait to go to Chicago this year. What ever it takes, I will be there. And for one day only, I will be a hawks fan. Let's Go Pens.
how about Toronto @ Montreal in December 2009 rip the top off of Olympic! LOL
Looks terric and I think it's a wise decision by the NHL since it incorporates the characteristics of the non-NHL venue into the logo which should further appeal to the casual fan.
I love it!
To Michael: I'm a big Caps fan and would of course love to see my team in a showcase event like that. However, it's just not cold enough here for outdoor hockey. We get some snow and ice here in DC during the winter, but it's unpredictable. On January 1, it's just as likely to be 60F/15C here as 32/0. Even with refrigerators under the ice they'd be asking for trouble. Have it in Ottawa! There must be a CFL or AAA baseball stadium there, right?
ottawa vs washington on the rideau canal/dow's lake. I dare you to say that it wouldn't be badass.
Oh, and to answer the question above, there's confederation park, which use to have the Rough Riders/Renegades, but they're busy reconstructing the stands... there's a baseball stadium, but I think it only holds about 8000 or so.
i dont know
i want to see another Winter Classic
but i also wouldnt mind if they just left it at 2008, perfect game, bad weather, nail biter, lots of memories
would be a shame if it went to Chicago and it was just a bland game with no excitment
bad idea. it shouldn't e every year, it should at least 2 years apart in my opinion
Toronto at Detroit in the Big House at Ann Arbor. :)
Fantastic logo, glad they removed the sponsor.
I didn't even catch that it was the Wrigley Field sign until now, impressive NHL.
I would love to see one of these games, every year, on New Years day, because it was a bonus last year that I'm a Pens fan, but I would still watch these games every year. (And I'm a huge college football fan, and I would watch this over bowl games.)
Get some of these matchups though:
Pit-Phi at Beaver Stadium (or Heinz Field or Lincoln Financial Field)
NYR-NYI in the New Yankee Stadium
MON-TOR in either city, although they would have to open the Dome in Toronto
