IHA: Special Contribution

If you're a regular reader, I'm sure you've heard of John Slabyk and The New Blue & Gold Project. I consider his concept artwork to be of the highest caliber — considering he is a professional graphic designer.

I got an email from John today. He says he's been following along with the IHA project and despite the endless amount of work he's been doing as the Art Director for Obama for America, he managed to break away when he saw the Great Lakes Division team — the Buffalo Bison.

John's asked that his design not be included as part of the IHA Project but still wanted to share it with you guys. He says he missed working with the buffaloes and felt this was a good way to keep himself sane. He says he took some liberties with the colors and I think it's for the better.

Anyway, it's always nice to see such quality artwork turn up in my inbox to share with you guys. I hope you guys like it. Feel free to leave your comments below.

On a separate note, I wanted to point out that as part of my attempt to spend less time working on Icethetics, I won't be posting logo finalists for the Pacific Division this week. However, I will still do the polls for the finalists throughout the week. They'll just be unveiled one day at a time instead of all at once.

That's one of the best Buffalo logos I have ever seen...

Damn it that it can't be used for anything.

He's a good graphic artist.

WOW very Cool i like. May i ask for his Reason for the colours. its very intresting. but I kinda dont like it. Makes the Jesery look way to vintage. But thats IMO.

That looks damn good...AND he's for Obama! Get this guy on the site more often! Great work.

Think the vintage look is awesome, I'd buy one of these for sure, and I'm a die hard Blues fan.

Speaking of Blues, that rebrand should be coming soon, sweet.

Obama! YES WE CAN.

If he's for Obama, perhaps he should have used a sheep instead of a buffalo. :p

As for the logos/uniforms. The buffalo on it's own is nice, but I hate the color choices and the uniforms look very bland as there isn't much in the way of contrast. The "B" would only work as a shoulder logo, and the double buffalo is just awful.

These jerseys are awesome, at least someone has the brains to avoid white.

Those Buffalo Bison logos are almost, or if not a, knock-off of the proposed/failed Buffalo Bills logo in the early 2000s:

hey Chris wouldn't it be easier if you just posted all the finalists and ran the polls for all of them at the same time?

not very good to be honest...

and its ok for him to change colors but nobody else?

nouse

he's not IN the contest so he could change anything he wants.

I also agree that it isn't the finest concept ever but it was certainly worthy of a special posting.

While i really like it, especially the colors, it does look a little too close to that bill's logo to be coincidence

Great look.

i'd like to see the colors with a little more contrast, the wheat a little lighter and possibly the brown darker.

for some reason, i love the concept jerseys on the top right. that logo is by far the best, and the sleeve stripes on the numbers are very WHA-Nordiques, something that hasn't been done in that fashion in a long time. very nice!
