One Final IHA Logo

Now that all 30 IHA teams have logos, the league itself needs one! I am now accepting logo submissions. There really aren't any restrictions on this one. Be as creative as you want. All you have to do is make sure you get IHA in there. Colors are up to you. They'll all be submitted to league creator Nicolas for a final decision.

Now, I've decided to let him explain the IHA and what's ahead for it and you can be involved if you're interested.

The International Hockey Association (IHA) is a professional hockey league based in a fictional hockey world. One part of the IHA is it's extensive history, going from it's creation in 1946 up to the current era, with the thirty teams you already know and thousands of players you may learn about in the future. The other part of the IHA, and the most important one, is that it is going to be part of a (fan-made) roster update for the PC sports sim NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007 in which you will be able to take control of one of the team on your way to building a dynasty. The following write-up is going to briefly cover what NHL:EHM 2007 is and how you can get to know more about the IHA and the update.

NHL:EHM 2007 is a computer based sports-sim developped by Sports Interactive and released in September 2006. The game puts you in control of a franchise in one of the different leagues in the hockey world (NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL and many european leagues). As the GM of your franchise, you conduct drafts, trade players, set lines, send out your scouts and try to build a dynasty, all while being able to watch 2D representations of the games your team play. Unfortunately, with the hockey world now in the 2008-09 season and the game out of development, it has become very hard to play the game as immersively with a 2006-07 database and there was no way to play a customizable world. The IHA update is meant to give another way to see things while playing the game as this is a different universe with fictionnal teams and players. The current aimed release date is January 2009.

Icethetics came into play to create the logos that will be included with the update. The results have been incredible, and I think despite all criticism it has been a very fun project from anyway you look at it. I'm also in the process of building a wiki for the IHA and its hockey world, but it's in the early stages; a huge part of the league's history is already written though so don't hesitate to ask if you want more information. If you have any questions/comments/suggestions, email me at duff_88@hotmail.com.

Thank You,
Nicolas

So email him for any further information. I'll provide a link and let you know when his web site is ready.

In the meantime, start working on those IHA logos!

IHA Final Art: Central

Two weeks ago I began unveiling the winning logo sets for each team in Project: IHA. You saw the final artwork for the Atlantic, West, Northeast, Pacific and Great Lakes Divisions. Last week you voted on logos for the Central Division. The polls are now closed and this is officially the final step of the project.

Below are the logos you selected for the IHA Central. On the left is the team's primary logo. To the right is the secondary and the wordmark is beneath it. Under the graphic is the designer's credit.

I wanted to mention that the designer of the Tigers, Thunder and Crusaders logo is not me — despite sharing my name. I'm was impressed that these were the first designs he submitted for the project and all of them won their respective votes. Because of that, I thought I'd show you guys a logo he submitted late for the Great Lakes Division. Click here to see his Buffalo Bison design.

To all the winning designers: If you would like your credit changed or a link added, please don't hesitate to let me know. Since you aren't being compensated in any other way for all your work, the least I can do is offer a link to your web site, blog or online portfolio — just in case certain eyes are looking. You never know. However, if you would like to remain anonymous, that's fine too.

And so ends Project: IHA. It was fun, if not controversial at times. We got to see some incredible artwork. I look forward to seeing more from our talented designers for the next project!

Couple of changes to this division. As I mentioned before, at the request of the league operator, the Capitals and Knights have swapped colors. The Knights are now blue. Also, based on the logo that won for the Brigade, the orange was changed to red.

To all the winning designers: If you would like your credit changed or a link added, please don't hesitate to let me know. Next week you'll vote on the Central Division logos and the following week I'll post the final designs and this project will be over. I look forward to seeing artwork from the same talented designers for the next project!

There's a big change you may notice. At the request of the league operator, Nicolas, I've swapped colors between the Ottawa Capitals and Toronto Knights. That means the Capitals are now red and the Knights are blue.

Tomorrow I'll unveil the final logo designs for the Pacific Division.
