Getting Pumped For New Jerseys?
I'm on the jersey and logo beat tonight. So let's get to it.
The Ottawa Senators are at the top of my list tonight. They're pushing their "Back In Black" third jersey with a special pre-order page on their official web site. They make specific mention of the sweater's debut which will take place on Saturday, November 22 when the Sens face the New York Rangers in an afternoon game.
Speaking of "Back In Black," John Buccigross has an interesting column up if you like AC/DC — which he's sure is named after ex-Bolts Adam Creighton and Dino Ciccarelli.
The Atlanta Thrashers are giddy about the debut of their new third jerseys this Friday. An element on the front page of their web site is urging you to buy tickets — and then, I guess, the jersey too.
It's a big weekend jersey-wise in the NHL. On Saturday, the Penguins will debut their alternate sweater and the Canucks are expected to do the same. Then we'll find out how accurate the Icethetics leak was. The Canadiens will also be wearing their 1945 throwback jersey for their second Centennial Jersey Night of the season.
And finally, the OHL's Windsor Spitfires unveiled a new logo last week. Kind of flew under my radar. (Pardon the pun.)
Apparently this is the first major logo change for the club since 1990. And they're going all out with their new marketing firm and everything.
It's a cool logo. It reminds me of some of the better artwork we've been seeing for the IceHL. So those artists should be happy to know they rank with the pros in my book.
Merchandise with this new logo went on sale Monday. I don't know if the team has started wearing the new logo and jerseys yet — which are modeled after the Washington Capitals' by the way.
You can read more about the new identity on the Spitfires' web site. They also have a picture of the jersey.
Thanks to Nathan and Juston for the news tips.

hmmm...makes me think of the Houston Aeros more than anything...cool nonetheless tho
im still hesitant in what the sens are going to unveil...
Can't wait till the Sens one!!
I really like that logo but it bothers me that the background is more like a "D" then a circle or oval
I read that AC/DC article before I read about it here, actually. For me, it was really hard to tell if he was being realistic with "Back in Black" being the official NHL soundtrack, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. That album has some nice tracks, like "Back in Black", Hells Bells", and "You Shook Me All Night Long".
Reminds me of the Aeros a bit, but none the less it is great. And as an aviation nut, I really love it! Except it was the P-40 that was more famous for the shark tooth nose.
Interesting that Windsor went with the Spitfire Mark III with the bubble Malcolm canopy instead of the blister canopy of the P-51D that became the most widely used variety. Perhaps this is a nod to the P-51s used by the RAF.
I like that Spitfires logo! The "bullets" being fired from the plane add an interesting touch to the logo. And by the way Chris, Don Taylor mentioned Icethetics again on Pratt & Taylor. He is hoping that your leak is phoney because he wants the Canucks to actually try something different for their new thirds.
The Spitfire logo is very cool, but I kinda prefer the more abstract and simpler old one.
This is probably as big a mistake as the London Knights made when they switched to "Spider Knight" logo 11yrs ago. Thankfully when the Hunters bought the team they brought back the green and gold (and the Knight's head).
I can't see many Spits' fans buying into this logo. The current one, the classic one is the one that says to me "Windsor Spitfires".
Not sure how anyone can say the old Spits logo DIDN'T need an overhaul......it was a horrible, out-dated 2-dimensional logo.......and it didn't fit in with the rest of the league, especially for a team that's ranked #1 in the country.
BTW, they're going to start wearing the new unis when they get into the new arena (date still unknown). Definately a new era in Windsor, so a change was needed.
The jersey is very RBK Edge looking, maybe the OHL will be switching to the Edge jerseys.
yeah I definitely thought "Aeros"... maybe because I have one of those jerseys I got as a gift a loooooooong time ago. circa 1997
A friend of mine who lives in the area passed along that the Spits are getting some major heat because it's not even an actual Spitfire plane (maybe CCD can clarify?), also uncomfortably close to the Detroit Tigers Single A minor league teams old logo:

I think you can make the assumption that any logo with a Spitfire plane flying upwards could be considered similar.
I really like this new logo. It looks hot on the Capitals jersey. It also feels like an OHL logo. I wouldn't consider it for an NHL team, its too cartoon-styled (clouds and plane) and modern with the two-tone colored font. I, too, am not sure why they chose the guitar pick shape behind it instead of a classic circle. There may have been an explanation behind the significance of it. It doesn't bother me that much though.
Windsor's new logo isn't bad, but I really liked their old one.
Buccigross is still around?? hey, who knew...
