Kings Players Talk About Third Jersey
The Los Angeles Kings have posted a video on their web site featuring Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar talking about the club's new third jersey. They don't divulge much — or anything really — but it's fun watching them try to tiptoe around the fact that they've already seen it but aren't allowed to say anything.
At the end of the video, a graphic indicates the unveiling for Saturday, November 22 at 7:34 PM. Not sure what the significance of such a precise time is, but the Kings do play the Colorado Avalanche that night. I've included that graphic at the end of this post. But first, here's the video.
And that graphic at the end, here it is.
For the record, that web address is bogus — at least right now. I get a Not Found message for lakings.com/backinblack.
By the way, don't forget that I'll be posting a leaked image of the Kings' new third jersey during one of four Live Chats over the next week. The first one will be tomorrow night. Make sure you're here!

I think the significance of the exact time is that will be after the warm up. The video seems to imply they'll skate warm up in a regular jersey, go back in and change to the new ones.
yea i believe it was stated before that their plan was to go out in there regular jerseys then come game time they are gonna but on their third jerseys
I'm getting so excited to see the jersey, and while I know a lot of other Kings fans have been reacting negatively (even though they haven't seen it yet), I'm really optimistic that this jersey will be a good one. The logo has grown on me because it's simple and bold, and according to the video and what others have said, the jersey should be simple and bold to match. I really can't wait. I've been mocking up concepts just for myself just because I'm like an impatient fanboy haha.
I still have the feeling that its going to be the same a there AHL Team the Monarchs It just seems odd to me that they now have a all black Jersey with Light Gray markings on it.
they werent really enthusiastic with their "i like it" statements. i hope that they have something else goin on with the jerseys than just an ALL black jersey...
7:34 PM is the time the Kings come out onto the ice for the game. You mentioned a few weeks back, Chris, that Luc Robitaille said they would wear their normal sweaters for the pregame warmup, then switch to the thirds for the game. The games actually start around 7:38 after national anthems and stuff like that.
I hope that Kopitar and Brown were being honest about the new sweaters....
I'm excited. I think it has potential to be a good sweater.
Random observation: Is it just me, or have a lot of teams decided to premier their new sweaters against the Avalanche? I know Edmonton did, as did Chicago and the Kings too. And I think there is at least one more team that's planning on it, but it's slipping my mind at the moment. Is there any way you could put a list up of who premiered their jerseys when and against who?
i don't think they said "it's cool" enough.
Man, I feel sorry for Kopitar and Brown!
link is fixed now... but it just displays the same flyer you've already posted above.
I'm still trying to decode exactly what "Back in Black" does indeed mean. I think what they mean is that the Kings are "back" meaning hockey is back on for this season... a bit late for the start of this season, but yeah whatever sells a few extra tickets. and it hints at the fact that the new (3rd) jersey is black.
interestingly though, on that flyer they display the Kings' 3 main jerseys over their 40+ year history (obviously omitting 3rd jerseys and the duplicate black which had the crest instead of the crown before they switched primary + secondary logos). they're missing one, the jerseys they wore from (circa) 79-88
if you go to the link provided and click on photos tab it shows a slide show of the black and white jerseys of the 90's. interesting note there is picture of sean o'donnell, from his first stint, that is inverted (kings logo is flipped around). so looks like a boring black and white logo for us king fans.
"Back in Black" Aren't they already in black?
yes, and we've established that.
