Thrashers Wear New Sweater

Despite looking dreadful, the Atlanta Thrashers debuted their new third jersey tonight to the tune of a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. They pushed alternate sweaters above the .500 mark to 7-6 with the win. Have a look.

Tomorrow when I have time to do some site updates, I'll add more photos to the Thrashers gallery at Third Jersey Central.

Earlier today, the Pittsburgh Penguins released a full schedule of the 11 games where they plan to wear their new third sweater. It's on the team's web site. The alternate jersey makes its debut on Saturday night when the Pens take on the Sabres.

I'll be sure to add pictures to their TJC gallery as well as to the Vancouver Canucks' and Montreal Canadiens.' The Nucks will debut their third jersey and the Habs are throwing back to 1945 for Centennial Jersey Night.

In other sweater-related news, no Blackhawk will ever again wear the No. 3 jersey. The Chicago Blackhawks honored Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson by retiring their sweater on Wednesday night.

I would've written about this sooner but I've been quite busy.

By the way, the plan may change for tomorrow's Live Chat. Earlier I mentioned doing it in the morning. That may not happen. Check back tomorrow for the start time, which will probably be late afternoon to evening, and get ready to see another new third jersey!

Fitting - A football score in the NHL's debut of a football jersey.

I was a critic of the Thrashers jersey at first, but after seeing them on the ice, I think they look GREAT. A little too much yellow and the front is iffy, but overall I like it. No one liked the baby blue jersey at first, and now it seems everyone does.

I think the Thrashers new jerseys actually look better off the players than they do on the ice...which says something... namely that they don't work too well as hockey jerseys

UGLIEST IN NHL HISTORY!!

After seeing them on the ice, I think they look okay

The baby blue jersey is HIDEOUS. The only sweaters the Thrashers have done well were their old thirds with the alternate logo.

I was thinking that they looked good at first... and then I really looked at them. Those are some nasty uniforms, from the jersey down to the socks. All these crazy lines and swirls. I was cheering for the unconventional sock design, but it just doesn't work with this uniforms.

It would kind of okay if it was just maroon, but the crazy white spots and lines just kill it for me. It would also look better if the "Thrashers" wordmark was larger a la Ducks and the number was toned down a bit or removed. But that's just my opinion.

The Thrashers jersey looks even busier in the ice

Wow. HIDEOUS.

Wow, from this angle you can see the random lines, side panels, and vertically striped socks in all their awfulness. Totally horrid.

It's like Reebok's 14-year old designer got fed up with being told "NO" by the Blackhawks, Red Wings, and Devils, and decided to take it all out on this poor team.

I actually like the Thrasher alternate jersey. What's wrong with it?

Nov 15 · 12:51 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterdaFlyersman

My issue is that the amount of green the Thrashers spent on "Believe in Blueland" and Be One With Blueland" over the last few seasons, it is strange that the Thrashers go with a red primary 3rd. I was at Phillips Arena last night and I will say they did not look bad on the ice but the fan jerseys without the numbers on the front actually look nice. Perhaps they should drop the "football" numbers.

Actually, the design of the Thrashers thirds is very good and distinctive, which the in-game pictures show. Even the odd color isn't bad. But the jerseys still need an honest-to-god logo--the wordmark is far too small and the numbers get lost.

Man those Thrashers jerseys look awful. That shoulder logo makes it look so clunky. Hideous. Their previous 3rd was much better, not great, but better.

At least they're not black!

Nov 15 · 6:55 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBuck

This is true. Too much black in the league (see: Dallas Stars)

Nov 15 · 10:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterdaFlyersman

That's just awful. Really awful. Seriously. The jerseys are bad enough but look at those socks! I don't even know what to say about those.

Poor Marty Reasoner. He's had a rough year for uniforms. First the Oilers ruin theirs, now he has to wear this mess.
