Weekend News & Notes
Got a lot of little things to mention this afternoon before we get to the Live Chat. It's hard to know where to start but talking about yourself is always easy.
Back in September I wrote about a guy who made up an instruction manual for creating your own jersey. Unhappy with what Team Great Britain was wearing, Ninh set out to make some improvements. Much to his surprise — and delight, Team GB recently showed up in brand new uniforms that look awfully familiar.
So whether his blog post had anything to do with Team GB's decision or not, it's awfully nice to see a dream come true. By the way, if you want more from Ninh, I highly recommend reading up on how he made Matt's rebranding of the Dallas Stars reality on a sweater.
Enough about him now.
Icethetics got a brief mention on FlyersWire. Writer Frank Seravalli talked about the Philadelphia Flyers' new third jersey, including the leaked picture. He's got information on how, when and where you can buy them.
Personally, I recommend IceJerseys.com. But that's just me.
One last thing. In the past few days, we've seen new masks from a handful of goalies. Thought I'd keep you guys in the loop.
Washington Capitals goalies Brent Johnson and Jose Theodore have new masks. Washington Post writer Dan Steinberg has pictures of Johnson's new helmet. His cohort Tarik El-Bashir says Theodore's is still being worked on.
That photo to the right is Johnson's mask which features a number of D.C. monuments including Lincoln, Washington and Iwo Jima. The U.S. Capitol Dome sits atop his dome in between the wings of the Weagle.
Going Five Hole has shots of Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's new third jersey-themed mask. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which I may or may not be quoted in on Sunday, Fleury had the mask made for the Winter Classic last year but was unable to play due to an injury.
Marty Biron is expected to don this new vintage-themed mask on Friday, November 28 when the Philadelphia Flyers debut their new orange third jersey.
I'm sure there are many others. If you know of any new masks I haven't mentioned, feel free to drop me a line so I can.
Thanks to everybody who's been helping keep Icethetics on its game with news tips. There's no way I could do it all myself.
Don't forget what's coming up this afternoon! Our 10th Live Chat starts at 3:30 PM eastern (12:30 PM on the Pacific coast) and I'll be leaking another unreleased third jersey. Will it be the Stars, Sens or Kings? Come join us to find out!

That Biron mask is excellent. Gotta love tributes like that.
A picture from the Tribune-Review from last year with both Marc-Andre Fleury's AND Dany Sabourin's masks:

Be interesting to see if Sabourin breaks out the brown leather pads he had commissioned for the Classic or if MAF switches back to yellow ones just for the sake of fashion.
Only problem with that Dessy picture is that the puck is in the back of the net. Other than that, the mask is sweet.
lol every one thinks that Ninh made the Dallas rebrand logo.
GB have used that logo a number of times in the past, infact I've got a GB jersey in my garage from around 5 years ago that uses the exact crest they are using now.
Very cool to see that guy's suggestions for his country's jerseys being used. I hope he gets something out of it.
Dwayne Roloson has a really nice new mask as well.
RE the GB 'rebrand'
The shirt on the NHL.com blog is very similar to one created by jersey designers Shinedog (now CH Sports) years ago for a tournament but I can't find any pictures online - it's not such a radical redesign as would first appear. I'm not the only one that remembers it so i've not dreamt it up!!
The logo on the 'new' jerseys and the blog is part of the Great Britain Olympic logo. The photo in the post was from the (failed) attempt to get through pre-qualification for the Olympics so no surprise that the Olympic logo was used. Be interesting to see what GB wear the next time their in action.
Irony of it all is that as the logo of the GB Olympic federation IOC rules would've forbidden it to be worn anyway had they made it to the competition proper!
Not that I dislike the Oilers' third, but what happened to their old "oil drop" third jersey? I happened to like that one!
Nice of Deslauriers to give a nod to Fuhr with that mask design.
The oilers third jersey from the last couple of years was AWESOME probably the best of all time.
