Kings Third Jersey Leaked!

During the Live Chat tonight, readers were treated to a leaked image of the new alternate sweater of the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings will officially unveil their third jersey on Saturday night against the Avalanche, but you can have a sneak peek right now.

As with both the Sharks and Senators leaks released in the past two days, the image quality is lacking, but you get the idea of what the sweater will look like. It's black with the new banner-shaped logo on the front. Broad white stripes wrap around the elbows and thin white piping runs from the collar to the wrist.

There may be some silver in the sweater but it's not easy to make out in this grainy scan. The numbering and lettering appears to be the same as what's used on the home and road jerseys.

This is one of those jerseys that I have no doubt will look stellar once it's on a hockey player. A lousy quality scan doesn't really do it justice. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with what we see on Saturday.

If any of our talented artists would like to take a stab at creating a graphic that enhances what we're seeing here, I'd be thrilled to add it as a follow-up to this post. Having said that, I do have one to share with you right now that I think comes pretty close.

This image uses the JerseyDatabase.com template but I'm not sure it was created by those folks.

I think one thing we're seeing with the new third jerseys is that simplicity makes for a killer uniform. Go with something classic yet edgy so it doesn't feel like we're going back to the Stone Age every time somebody wants to try out a throwback. Vintage is good. So is the 21st century.

Keep in mind that the Kings will officially show off their new duds this Saturday, November 22 when they take the ice against the Colorado Avalanche.

By the way, our final third jersey leak Live Chat will take place Tuesday morning at 11 AM. You'll get to see the Stars' new third jersey just shortly before it gets officially unveiled. Be here!

looks like you're going to leak it AFTER it's unveiled, if you wait until 11am.

a little before 8am central time, marty turco is showing it off on the local dallas news.

perhaps you should scoop them by posting it right now :)

Why not just use the Gretzky era jerseys? Those were really nice. One of my favourites, actually. Black done properly.

While it's hard to tell what the final product will look like, I kind of like it. It's a simple design that hearkens back to the Gretky-era jerseys, but with a modern touch. I'm still not crazy about the font, but love that they dropped the "Los Angeles" from the front of the jersey.

fantastic! a NEW jersey that keeps in mind the conventions that a hockey jersey is meant to follow!*

*as long as that white hemline stripe is actually there

with the hemline stripe and the sleeve stripes, it stays with what a jersey is meant to be. it introduces something new, i'm looking at you sleeve piping, without being crazy. it's nothing super-awesome. it's a bit bland with the colors and the logo...but it's a sign that teams are willing to salute the past, look to the future, and come up with something new, neither a monstrosity (atlanta) or a pure throwback (islanders). very, very nice.

i just hope that the stripe doesn't stop for the "reebox" with the neck logo, and that hemline stripe actually exists

I think I'll have to wait to judge this one until I see it on the ice. The jersey design itself seems good, but I don;t think I'm feeling the crest.

That's my rendition. I'm surprised it's made it all the way to this cutting edge site. I made based on how the guys at the HFboards forum had described it. Credit goes there. I'm not a fan of the logo (yet), but I like the simplicity of the jersey.

Nov 18 · 12:30 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAaron DeVandry

simple and elegant. love the racing stripe down the arm.

As a long time King's fan I think this looks much better than I was expecting. All I know is that it's gonna look good on Dustin Brown, KopiStar, and Drew Doughty for a long time.

More importantly it looks like a jersey that will age well (ala your simplicity comment) as opposed to a trendy design that will get old in a hurry.

It's not that I necessarily 'hate' this jersey. It does show a lot of potential. I just think the Kings have so much history to fall back on, I was a bit surprised at the minimalistic approach.
Oh well. Guess we'll have to see it with our own eyes before passing judgement.

I really like this jersey, actually. Not too crazy about the logo at first, but it has grown on me because of its vintage look. It feels like a very old logo, even though it's brand new.

The guy who I spoke to back in September about the jersey said it was made in a very sharp and professional manner, and from what I saw last night, I have to agree. We were all skeptical about the lack of purple, and another black jersey for the team that already wears black, but I'm impressed.

Nov 18 · 5:43 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterKevin Y

Well, glad they dropped the purple.

Nov 18 · 6:20 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterasnowballschance

Not bad, but not that good either. The lower stripe looks stupid. So it's on the front but not on the back? Stupid.

Nov 18 · 6:44 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDamme

i think my monitor is broken, i am only seeing black and white....oh, wait.

Nov 18 · 8:27 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterawildermode

The Kings jersey's suck! The logo sucks and the jersey design sucks. I don't find one thing about this jersey appealing.

Nov 18 · 9:27 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterCaptainK47

"The numbering and lettering appears to be the same as what's used on the home and road jerseys."... true, except white, not silver. I guess they'll have a purple (possibly purple/silver) outline but I'm not really sure. hard to tell from these

I gotta say, even though I've been making fun of the "logo", the complete jersey actually looks much nicer than I expected based on the mockups that we've seen flying around. and I don't notice the otherwise pretty generic logo bothering me nearly as much.

Nov 18 · 9:32 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrianguy

and, we finally know what "Back In Black" really means in regards to the Kings' 3rd: no purple!

"Back in (all) Black", baby...

Nov 18 · 9:37 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterbrianguy

These are awful. Really awful. As Jason says. Why not use the Gretzky-era jerseys. That was a good look.

Nov 18 · 10:42 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterOskar K

I'm not feeling the love. Not bad, but if they really wanted to have a black jersey (as if the league needs another), they could have gone the Gretzky-era route. Just a "meh".

Nov 18 · 11:59 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

Chris says "simplicity makes for a killer uniform."

While this is true, I don't see simplicity in this Kings uni. Why? Anytime two different patterns intersect, in this case the piping running from the shoulder to the end of the sleeve and the arm bands, it's not simple. It's ugly.

The Gretzky era jerseys would have been awesome. Or the original purple and gold.

Nov 18 · 1:21 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMoosehabs

I really like these. They seam reminiscent of the Gretzky-era jerseys but instead of going full retro (like the Oilers or Islander) they made a classy update (like the Sabres or Canucks).

As far as the logo goes, it reminds me of a banner that might hang from a rampart or something - so it works.

but I'm not a Kings fan so I guess it doesn't really matter if I like it haha

Jersey: A
Logo: F

Jersey is a cool design, Logo is really weird...If the logo was just the crown, it would be an overall A jersey... I don't know what they are trying to do with the pencil point logo... good shoulder logo i suppose

Nov 18 · 2:21 PM PST | Registered CommenterGosensgo52

not bad, could be a lot worse. the jersey looks sleak but the logo is quite simple. obviously that is what they were going for

Nov 18 · 2:52 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterLance

Actually just as a note, the crest is a throw-back look, that shape is how the logo looked from 1967-82, with a re-done crown inside. That's the salute to the very old jersey. The black and white of course is back to our Gretzky days.

So they actually do a decent job of having the old elements back.

Nov 18 · 3:03 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterShekhar

I wish the sox were hooped with black and white stripes.
I'd like hoops on the jersey, too.

Nov 18 · 4:16 PM PST | Unregistered Commentercristobal

Kings like Gold.
The Pope likes purple.

Maybe they can be like the Oregon Ducks. 56 uniforms before they put out a quality product...

Nov 18 · 8:40 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterRob McCarthy

Wayne Gretzky may have worn the black and silver during his time in LA, but the true Kings identity were the purple and gold uniforms with the classic crown. What the Kings had during the Gretzky era was sharp, but what made those uniforms popular was Gretzky, on-ice success, and the popularity of black during the 90s.

The Kings should have done the right thing by tapping into their past by unveiling a 1960s/70s version of their original road purple uniforms with the gold horizontal stripes around the arms and waist and the gold V-neck. ANYBODY can wear black, but purple and gold go great together, they are unique, and they represent royalty. If Gretzky had worn that uniform along with a new home white version, that uniform would have been a bigger classic. For those who don't like purple, keep in mind that the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL have worn purple and gold for generations.

The front shield crest is too plain, but perhaps it is so to fit the minimalist design of the rest of the jersey. I would have used the original 1967 crest on this jersey. That would be an interesting juxtapostion, the colorfull crest on a monochromatic field. And no letters or writing on the front...only C or A or the name on the back. I think the slender piping is killer.
