An Early Look At Stars' Third

Marty Turco was on the local news in Dallas this morning with a sneak peek at the Stars' new alternate sweater. It's exactly what all the rumors have said — a white version of the current black jersey.

It's got DALLAS in green letters arched above the player's sweater number on the front. Both the text and numbers are trimmed in gold on the inside and what appears to be black on the outside.

Tony sent in some pictures of his TV screen this morning.

You'll be able to find the rest of what he sent at Third Jersey Central in the Stars' gallery.

Now as for the leak I was planning this morning, circumstances beyond my control prevented me from getting the Live Chat done, so instead I'm just posting the image here.

This gives you more of an overview of the jersey, but if you've seen the Stars during a home game in the past year, you pretty much already know what they look like.

I have to say I am a little disappointed they didn't opt for a green jersey. I actually don't think I would've minded as much. As I've said before, I think Dallas' black jersey is nice by itself. But now they're adding to it — and so are the Thrashers, for that matter.

Tony, who sent in the picture above, mentioned to me that Dallas fans love their jerseys despite the general "bashing" it's getting around the league. He says, "Go on ahead, we don't need any Red Wings fans buying our sweaters."

It only really matters what Stars fans think of these, though I know we won't be short of opinions from everyone else.

He also said, "I like that the logo is not totally gone. I feel it still stands out on the shoulders. As for the lettering on the front, there certainly is appeal to it. It's a college/vintage vibe that I think is simplistic yet cool. Simple and classic."

Well put. The official unveiling happens later today. I'll post pictures when I can.

Well I'm surprised they didn't officially remove green from their jerseys.

I am surprised that years ago after the move they didn't change their colors to red white and blue, especially if they are going for the "Stars" to be from the "Lone Star State" and add a texas flag as the secondary logo, Because I know all Texans are crazy about that flag...

Long sleeve Footbal Jersey!!!

I think a green third would be better with the DALLAS on the front of the jersey and they should keep the away jerseys the way they are.

I wonder if they're doing the number on the front thing to make it similar to football jerseys (as Joe mentions above). It would make sense. And honestly, it doesn't look too bad. I just wish teams would get more creative with their 3rd jerseys. :(

Guess some of the Football Cities are having a hard time telling where there fav player is on the ice?

boring, ugly, plain jane, and like someone else said, long sleeve football jersey.

i don't see how any hockey fan can get excited about this jersey, i'm sorry to say it. i definitly don't understand the latest craze of having the number on the front or the city name arched across the top.

all in all.. meh... nothing special at all

While were at it, lets cut off the sleeves, change the Dallas text to say Mavericks and change the name on the back to Jason Kidd.

I like that this, like their away jerseys, are mostly white. I think the all-white look is sharp.

I think it's ugly. So is the homejersey. Who came up with the bad idea to put the numbers on the stomach? Bad idea.

I agree. I actually like the black Dallas Jersey. It was a breath of fresh air and unique. But it's a bit much here when they just retread the same design with a color swap.

In my opinion (and just this case in particular), since 3rd's are essentially cash grabs anyway, I think the Stars coulda asked RBK to just create these white versions of their home sweater, but just sold it as an unofficial jersey, like in the Stars Store in the AAC. I bet some die-hard fans such as Tony would still be inclined to buy that. But it would leave the option of Dallas making a legitimately different 3rd Jersey design.

And on another note, at least it's not another black 3rd.

Ughh. Not liking the front number at all.

I honestly think that the Stars marketing team wanted two "DALLAS" jerseys from the start... one for home, and one for away.

I believe they decided to play it safe with the old 'stars' crest on the whites when the edge unis first came out and tested the waters with the blacks.

I wouldn't be surprised with the stars doing away with the current aways (no pun intended) in a season or two, and adopting this one as the road jersey. I personally like it, it gives the team a consistent look. Much like our current whites, it seems plain on a screen, but the design looks much better in person.

If it does end up being the away jersey, this 'third' will eventually allow for a real third (do i hear green perhaps?) to be considered down the road.

I think the last poster is correct. This looks to me like a future away jersey. If it paves the way for a green one, I'll support it. Do you think it's sad that the team is moving so far away from any connection to the old North Stars? The Star logo is perfect. It's a simple, yet elegant logo. it makes sense b/c it is the lone star state, and it hearkens back to the Minnesota days. To go completely TEXT and not have anything with a logo would be sad. Watch they end up with a green jersey that has Stars written in white. Ugh.

also...if you're going to use 'Dallas' and go NFL on us, how about at least being creative and having 2 smaller star logos on either side or a Star instead of the number. Come on, guys. Best of both worlds !
