Isles Debut Third Jersey

The New York Islanders debuted their new third jersey tonight against the Montreal Canadiens.

You can't deny how awesome this uniform is. It just screams New York Islanders. It will one day become this team's primary jersey if I have anything to say about it.

For the record, the Isles' alternate sweater debut was tarnished by a ridiculous loss tonight. How would you feel if you were up 4-1 going into the third and still blew the game? That's right, the Canadiens scored four goals in the third period.

In other news, the Toronto Maple Leafs once again wore their third jersey with the Rangers in town. The home crowd was preparing for a loss, down 2-0 going into the final frame when out of nowhere New York collapsed allowing the Leafs to score five goals — and show up the Habs.

Those are awesome, much better than the fisherman.

I think this is the first time we've ever had any actual NHL analysis on this collection of sites. It's the curse of the third jerseys.. or the blessing, in the Leafs' case.

I got chills tonight. It feels good to be a Leafs fan right now. :D

a lot better than a Caps fan right now Leafers.

The only time I ever cheer for the Leafs is during games against the Atl. Division, so I'm going to count that one as a win. Take that Rags.

5 goals in 5.21 minutes by the Leafs..
Who saw THAT coming?!

Nov 1 · 10:54 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterb

This better not be their home jersey in the future it sucks and the white stripes on the ice looked so bad while I was watching the game it was awful.

why the move? the other site seems very similar. GO LEAFS GO GO LEAFS GO GO LEAFS GO GO LEAFS GO

Retro 3rd jerseys are win. The two new ones (Oil/Isles) definitely look slick.

Also, can't believe Leafs scored 5 straight to win 5-2. Oh well. Important thing for me was the Oilers winning 3-1 against the Canes.

Love these jerseys...gives us Isles fans a nice warm fuzzy feeling when we see these. And you're not alone in hoping these become the primary jersey over the mish-mash ones they rolled out last year.

This one's right there with the Oilers alt on the ol' "Must Buy" list.

To answer Chris's question, as an Isles fan, I should be mad they blew a 4-1 lead. but I'm not shocked it happened in the least. Partially because they were playing the Habs (by far one of the best teams in the East this year), but mostly because, let's face it, the Isles this year suck out loud.

I had a feeling these guys were going to be brawling it out with a few others for the most ping-pong balls in the lottery...so far, they're not proving me wrong.

Oh well, at least they looked spiffy blowing that 4-1 lead...

Wow, I happened to be watching both the Habs and Leafs game at the same time tonight, and I dunno if anybody else noticed, but the Leafs and Habs both TIED their games within like 10 seconds (in real time) with each other, and then took the lead within like 10 seconds of each other too...it was CRAZY!

IMO The Isles pants dont quite match the new jerseys tho :P

Nov 2 · 1:54 AM PDT | Unregistered CommenterJ-Buck

hmm.. coughing up big leads.. sounds like these teams have been watching the Canucks instructional videos.

I was at the Isles game Last night, and holy ****. i couldn't believe it, not in the least bit.
It was so perfect, amazing new threads, amazing game, dominating the Habs, I had about 50 hab fans behind my friends and I also. A guy even said "Your still the worst team in the league, so i turned around and laughed in his face cause they were down 4-1. Then we bombed, i ended up turning around at the end of the game and shaking his hand in the midst of the most shameful defeat Ive ever witnessed .

I love how Don's always right. Maybe I can get him to predict a Leafs cup in the near future.

Yeah, Caps fans, I feel sorry for you. Did anyone else notice that huge crowd in Columbus last night? Good for them, it actually makes me really happy to see more and more teams starting to sell out. Nashville's fans have started to rally behind the team after moving rumors, exactly like what happened in Pittsburgh a couple years ago. Ever since their cup, Anaheim's crowd has gone up. The list goes on and on, but the number one team would have to be Minnesota, 329, I believe it is, straight sell-outs.

I think Kansas will do well. Yes, I said will.

I'm embarrassed to be a Rangers fan after that, 5 goals on 6 shots in the last 5 minutes.

Typically I'm not a fan of overly simple jerseys, but this just looks fantastic out on the ice. I would agree that this should be the primary next year. I don't necessarily want to see every team move away from the "New Edge" style next year, but so far the Isles, Sabres and Oilers have much better looking thirds.

Nov 2 · 7:11 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterArenacale

Well, I was about to e-mail chris and call the Isles' third jersey debut a success, and then the third period started and it was ALL habs, 16-4 were the shots, and threee of the Isles shots came with the goalie pulled. I am going to say that the habs got lucky they were playing a bottom feeder, if they pull that crap against a team like boston or Detroit, they'll be toast. GO HABS GO!

Nov 2 · 8:05 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBill

Hehe... the Isles looked great in their thirds last night! Much better than their current mess that they currently wear. Athough, blowing that lead did spoil the party.....

Nov 2 · 8:34 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterWingerdinger

Now those are sharp!

Nov 2 · 9:01 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDrew Celestino

I'm not sure I like the way the pants are lighter than the rest of the uniform.

Nov 2 · 10:19 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterTHE DUCK KNIGHT

Yeah, the Habs better be prepared next time they face one of the worst teams in the league, be it Atlanta or NY Islanders or whatever, if they continue to play games like these against those team, I think I'm just gonna stop watching those games. Seriously, the first 2 periods sucked bad, at least if it were 4-1 but there was some effort, but none. They kept giving the puck away and not putting any effort in. Then the third period came. And it was ok I guess. Sure 4 goals in the 3rd is cool, but I'm not impressed at all. I knew they could win, but it just shows they weren't prepared and they had no respect for the Islanders. Didn't really like last night's game, even if it ended 5-4.

Habs can be dominant like in the 3rd and we all know this, but at least put some effort in the 1st and 2nd, don't just make me want to break my TV. The worst 2 periods of the year by far. Laraque tying his fight against the 6'8, 258 pounds was probably the best part, 'cause Kovalev's goal in the 1st wasn't all that great, Price neither, nobody was good. Well at least A. Kostitsyn got a 1 Assist, +4 game. And good job Leafs too, you must've felt somewhat what we felt last year :
Supposed to finish last, yet another win
Comeback 2-0 to 5-2 (Even if it isn't 5-0 to 6-5, it must've felt good)
Players actually waking up
Leafs actually becoming the Habs of last year, so we better watch out next year.

As for the Third jerseys, Islanders' third was really cool, though it was much better than their first, but I prefer Edmonton's primary to their third.

Nov 2 · 11:02 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJachaos

I meant I prefer Islanders 3rd to Islanders Home, but prefer Edmontons Home to Edmontons 3rd

Nov 2 · 11:03 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJachaos

Wow Those jersey's look unbelieveable on the ice

Nov 2 · 11:09 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterCass

very sexy!

Nov 2 · 11:13 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterLance

Laraque tied his fight lol, he got embarrassed by Mitch Fritz.

Nov 2 · 11:35 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterKoho

koho, Laraque cut fritz open and took him down, hardly getting embarrassed.

Nov 2 · 11:47 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterBill

Fritz controlled him the whole time.

Nov 2 · 12:05 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKoho

fritz might have controlled, but he definitly didn't embarras Laraque, it was a weak sauce fight.. nothing but spinning around caused by fritz just holding on to laraque's jersey. really nothing special there.

what i did find interesting about the game was that the crowd sounded WAY more in Montreal's corner, and yet the game was in NY. I know, a bunch of busses of Montreal fans, but it sounded like aMontreal home game more thant a NY one.

Nov 2 · 12:38 PM PST | Unregistered Commenternone

They look good! I don't mind thier normal jerseys but these are good too!

Nov 2 · 12:51 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterGoodsie

Yeah Laraque got spinned around a bit but hey Fritz put in all the effort he had (Heck, he was called up only two games ago so he wants to impress) while Laraque wasn't at his best, like the rest of his teammates. Still he fared extremely well against a 258, 6'8. In fact, he cut him and he was bleeding on his way to the bench, with one of his eyes looking pretty damaged. All Fritz did was use his reach and weight to spin Laraque around, until Laraque cut him and took him down. Hardly embarassed.

GO HABS GO

I missed the comeback Saturday night because of work. I always miss the good games. Like the new site!

Nov 2 · 2:49 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMooseHabs

Anyone else noticed the new Islanders wordmark on Mark Streit's helmet in the second pic?

Nov 3 · 10:06 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterClark12

Very nice. They look like the Islanders again. MacDonald having matching gear is cool.

Nov 3 · 12:59 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJason

It actually was Yann Danis not McDonald

Nov 3 · 7:36 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJachaos

Love the thin blue stripe breaking up the thick orange and white stripes. Minor things make this look splendid.

Nov 3 · 10:01 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterLarry

They are good looking jerseys, they obviously remind me of the good ol' days, (at least as Islander fans are concerned) and when Pat Lafontaine played for them.
