Pens Confused About Third Unveiling?

Icethetics may be in the middle of a major move right now but the news doesn't stop.

An advertisement appearing in rotation on the Pittsburgh Penguins' web site seems to be promoting the third jersey unveiling for Monday. Which begs the question: Are they confused or was it a simple mistake?

My guess is mistake.

The Pens announced Thursday on their own web site that the unveiling would take place on Wednesday, November 5 from 6 to 8 PM at Dick's Sporting Goods in The Mall at Robinson.

I'm going to assume that is the correct date and this ad will be fixed and replaced once somebody notices.

Now about the image of the jersey in the ad. It is not the new third jersey. In fact, it's the same image that was released for the Winter Classic — sans the Winter Classic patch on the front.

Expect to see some slight differences such as added piping and the Vegas gold replacing the classic gold. I'm not certain on this but I do believe the jerseys will be different in some way. Obviously they want to save the one-time-only aspect of those Winter Classic sweaters.

Thanks to Jesse and Brian for sending in this image.

Seems odd that they'd include a picture of a jersey in an ad for their new jersey unveiling. Or maybe it's just me. Well, whatever the date will be, it'll be interesting to see what these ones turn out like.

Chris,

Is the Wave logo done by "Chris Smith" done by Chris Smith as in you?

Seems very odd they include a picture of a previous "alternate" (as in "not the primary") jersey in an ad for their new jersey. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they made any alterations to the jersey they wore last year, but it looked incredibly sharp when I saw it in person on a fan at Staples Center in September. I wouldn't be disappointed if they kept it exactly the same, but it wouldn't bother me if they made slight, subtle changes.

Interesting blunder... looks like the Penguins made a mistake!

I also think they're confused posting an image of a jersey there...lol. They should've just put a black silhouette.

Hey Chris, i would just like to say that on the bruins logo in the third jersey countdown, the yellow backdrop looks MUCH better than the black or whatever it was before.

Oddly enough, my Roommate just got a winter classic Pens jersey cheap, and it had Vegas gold, not the classic gold. Now I'm wondering if that was a mistake or an accidental release.

But it has a winter classic patch...

jeff,
your roommate no doubt bought the jersey on ebay. those are known as the "china" jerseys as most are shipped from china for very cheap and are considered bootlegged. they have the vegas gold in the logo as well as white laces (the official RBK replicas were sold with blue laces)

probably one of these guys:

Zach,
Maybe the pens are switching to the chinese bootleg company as their official sweater supplier. They can't be any worse quality than the garbage reebok is making.

I bought this about a month ago. You can't tell, but half the zipper is white and the other half is vegas gold. Just saying.

Zach,

Though you're correct that the replica winter classics had blue laces, the authentic jerseys are to have white laces. Now, that being said, it is absolutely a counterfeit jersey, due to the vegas gold triangle. That and the shotty stitching are really the only ways to tell.
