Coyotes Unveil Third Jersey!

The Phoenix Coyotes have officially unveiled their new third jersey for the 2008-09 season. They did so both on television during the first intermission of their game tonight and on their web site.
Icethetics' perfect score in terms of leaks continued as the 'Yotes displayed their new black sweaters with a leaping coyote across the chest. The uniform also features sand colored numerals and text along with brick cuffs.

To the right here you can see Olli Jokinen and Ed Jovanovski donning their new threads.
The uniform as a whole features three entirely new logos, the most obvious being the full body coyote on the front. There's also a new paw print logo on the left shoulder with the team's name in the circle around it. And on the pants is a new script logo.
The right shoulder of the uniform features the Coyotes' primary logo, introduced in 2003 when the uniforms got their first major overhaul.
Now if you want my opinion, here it is. I'm a little disappointed. I think I had the most hope for the Coyotes' third jersey when I first saw the logo when it leaked several months ago. I'm not a fan of the red area ont he sleeve or the striping down the sides.
It's certainly a completely different look from their home and road uniforms but I'm not sure that's such a good thing in this case. I don't mind the red helmets, but they do seem a little out of place with the black jerseys.
Overall, I'd say it's middle-of-the-road. I don't hate it, but then I don't love it either.

You'll notice that the Coyotes join the Red Wings in placing the captain letters on the opposite shoulder so as to keep it from clashing with the top of the logo.
By the way, the Coyotes also had a video talking about the new sweater. Shane Doan came on and chatted about it briefly and also took a shot at the host's Amerks jersey which I thought was funny.
I'm a little disappointed in the Coyotes' web guys at the crummy quality of this video and the pictures in their photo gallery. But I guess I can let it slide. The jersey will make its debut on the ice on Friday, November 28 when the 'Yotes face the Avs.

These jerseys don't look too bad at all. One of my faves this season
i actually kinda like these jerseys...my only gripe would be with the red pants...i would have liked to see some black on them to make the uni kinda flow more...maybe some sort of black strip down the side....or black pants w/red stripping...
I got treated to a flyers win against this coyotes team and now comcast philadelphia is showing the caps-sharks game and i gotta say while the sharks third looks sharp, all you see when your watching is black figures and big white numbers all over the ice and the green on the arm looks black from the tv but all and all they look nice. sorry this doesnt have too much to do with the coyotes but it is third jersey news and i didnt know where else to post
Personally, I think that this is one of the first third jerseys this year that looks better when it's not being worn...
the sharks are really really good they are dominating the caps and there looking good doing it
Never liked the logo (looks like a Grey Hound bus), and the jersey isn't great either. to me the black and red seem to be fighting to be the main color.
I thought this was going to be a good jersey, but the red pants and helmet looks terrible and the unique striping gets lost on the uniform when the players wear it. Logos are great though. As far as the video and pictures go, most people won't mind as Phoenix barely has any fans as it is. haha

I dont know why but the red pants and helmets look stupid, is that how they are gonna wear them? It looks like they are wearing another teams jersey with their regular pants.
I say change them to the black or the tan colour, all i keep looking at is the helmets.
Wow. Bryzgalov looks almost evil in that photo. Something about the black, red, and the white on the mask.
Not a big fan of the logo, but could be worse.
I like the red pants. It offsets nicely. I'm really getting sick off all the black in the league anyway. Black armour, back in black, black friday, black thursday, black tuesday, black EVERYDAY.
As much as I am disappointed in the Canucks 3rd (honestly, watching games it looks no different from their regular home jersey - it should have been green) at least its not black. Props to all the other teams that used another colour other than black for their thirds.. (Philly, Atlanta, Buffalo, Dallas, Edmonton, NY Isles, St. Louis)
no mention on the special jerseys the leafs were suppose to wear tonight, until the league said no because they weren't black???

Another thing to note, the pants don't have the vertical striping, and the Captain C's and A's are on the opposite side of the jerseys.
when were the amerks mentioned on Icethetics...outside of saying they had a better flag jersey?
shane doan didn't seem sold on the jerseys. i'm not either. i don't like the way the look on the players and the red helmets and pants look terrible.
Hmmm...red pants and a red helmet sure go great on a black jersey and black socks. </sarcasm>
That`s my only problem about the whole uniform. But the jersey looks sweet.
Oh My F***in God Those Helmets Make me Want to Puke. Luongo gets injured, and Now we have Brick Red Helmets poorly matching a black jersey? A Three-Year-Old Could Have Chosen a Better Colour, That Picture of Olli and Jovo in them makes them look like they're on a team in the Special Olympics or something. But Enough of My Ranting.
It's time for a review from Yours Truly.
Uniform Wise, This Just Doesn't Look NHL Enough. Jersey Wise though, it's Very Nice for going against the Norm.
The Highlights:
-Paw Shoulder Patch (Would Love to See it on a Third Someday)
-Decent Colour Combonation (On the Jersey That Is...)
-Full Bodied Coyote (This one's more Neutral)
The Lowlights:
The Helmets (Hey Yotes! Brick Red is NOT the New Black!!!)
-Lack of Bottom Stripe (Need I Say More...)
Overall
2.5/5 (If they used Black Helmets, they would have had 3)
Pretty ugly; another unecessary black uniform. Their regular jerseys are much better.
Of course, they'd look even better with "Winnipeg Jets" on them.

They looked so good when it was the jersey alone, but the red pants and helmet look terrible.
And actually, the red on the sleeve blends in with the glove and makes the jerseys just look like practice jerseys.

Red helmets and pants don't work with black jerseys. That's why the Canes didn't do it.
Captains' letters belong on the left side. Period. Move the logo down a centimeter if you need to.

These are definitely a disappointment. They are too plain jane. And holy god do the red pants and helmets look ridiculous with the jersey.
I kinda like the red helmets, as it strays from the norm of every other black jersey. However, the red pants make them all look like they've ( pardon the crassness of this) all taken a dump in their breezers. Nitpick all you want about a patch here, a stripe there, overall they look way above par. Photoshop some black pants on them and I bet a lot of people would change their minds, IMO. Alas, I get to see these beauties <sarcasm> next weekend. I'll reserve judgement until then.
I wouldn't base any opinions on how Jokinen looks in any jersey, as that dude just looks weird anyways.
As for the Sharks jerseys: I saw a lot of negative comments on here about how close the SJ logos would be next to the numbers and whatnot. After last night, none of those complaints hold any water as everything looked perfectly spaced. They look a little dark from the typical TV angle for watching the game, but the in close shots made the Sharks look just like they've been playing: intimidating and mean. Well done, Sharks. I almost forgave you for the orange last night. But I didn't. lol

Personally, I like these. I think this is a jersey that I would look nice from the higher-up seats, where my Kings season-tickets are.
I always say that I can't judge a jersey until I see it in person, but everytime I've said that I've grown to be a fan of that jersey. I assume the same would be true here.

Yawwnnnnn, wake me when teams dont have a stich of black in their primarys and make black their thirds primary.
Uhhhh.... ok... The helmets look goofy and out of place. Brick red on this jersey just does not work... I had such high hopes, and now they have disappeared . The pants also do not work for me. But this is just my opinion, Coyotes fans could be loving it for all I care.
I don't like that logo on a jersey. Too much width and not enough height.
Red helmet, black jersey, red gloves, black socks... it isn't sitting right with me. Maybe black helmets and gloves? I don't know. Or just use your regular set which is among the best in the league?

Being a lifelong fan of the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes organization I can honestly say for all of us we are thoroughly disgusted with this effort. The helmets are obviously the worst part of it. I also dont understand why they wouldn't have black pants with the red and sand striping going down the side right in line with the jersey. I guess that just makes too much sense, I will however say it is better than our original third jersey, the only jersey in professional sports to ever feature a desert landscape at the bottom.
Okay, as a hurricanes fan I can tell you that the all black looks pretty bad on TV. I haven't seen it in person, but they look like ink blobs out there. The Red pants and Helmet make it look a hell of a lot better, especially with no hem stripe.

Look at Bryzgalov in the second pic, is it just me or does he look like like hes one minute away from snapping, bringing out a chainsaw and going on a manslaughter spree.
the red pants make a nice contrast! the'jersey's by them selves a little boring, but with the whole uniform, I think these are the best black outfit in the league, by far!
Wow, those uniforms are all kinds of ugly. This is a great example of a team co-opting Black as a primary uniform colour for no good reason other than to degrade the image of the team. I thought the coyotes nailed their look with their redesign a few years ago. Their simple red and white look gave them one of the two best non-classic jerseys in the Nhl, alongside the Wild's third.
I was at the game when they unveiled it against the Rangers, and they looked amazing. Then my dad won tickets to the Leaf game last night to sit at the Molson Canadian True Fan Suite! It was only until the shootout when one of the ladies in charge came up and said, "Are you Ron?" Ya that was my name and then she said I won the third jersey!! It was too big for me, so we went to trade it in for a smaller size and now here I am...on icethetics.info writing a comment and wearing my new "SENS" jersey!!!
