This Is Not A Calgary Flames Third Jersey
Monday · Nov 3 · 2008 | 3:53 PM PST Comments Off
I must've gotten over a dozen emails about this in the last two days so I'm just going to put it here so everybody knows. The following ad has been appearing on NHL web sites, promoting the NHL's online store. Look at it carefully.
That piece of clothing on the right is NOT a Calgary Flames' third jersey. It's not even a jersey. And the Flames won't have a third jersey this season at all. It's merely a hooded sweatshirt with a unique design.
You can purchase it at shop.nhl.com.
Mystery solved.

That was an easy mystery to solve... good job Chris! (It would have been a kinda cool jersey though)
Yeah, I agree that it is a pretty easy mystery to solve... the Flames "C" logo on the side gave it away. That would be interesting though, putting their logo as the C for captain on a players jersey.
Wouldn't be that bad of a jersey if there logo wasn't there.
Wingerdinger, they did use it as the captain's "C" for a while. (can't remember when) And boy am I glad that's not the new third jersey. I think I'm going to start working on a concept though.
They use the old Atlanta Flames logo for their assistant captains don't they?
The Flames are one of those teams that I don't know if I want them to have a third jersey or not.
But as long as they take off the Alberta and Canada flags from their shoulders, I don't care.
hahahaha fail.
I'm happy to see that i'm not alone to believe that is a Flames Third Jersey.
I'm one of the people who send an email to Chris.
While on the topic of the NHL shop, is anyone else surprised that they actually acknowledged the onetime existence of the Whalers?
Lol, it is really pretty obvious that isn't a jersey.

The city of Hartford owns or owned the rights to the Whalers logo and refused to let it be used. The NHL must have worked out a deal with Hartford or bought the rights from them.
long live the whale
it's not even a unique sweater, i've seen a ton of teams with that exact same sweater design
Really backburner? Cool! And yes, Calgary currently uses the old Atlanta Flames logo for their assistant captain patches.

The State of Connecticut own the rights to the Whalers name and colors, not the city...then again, seeing how Hartford's run, it's probably a marginally better thing that it's in the hand of the state.
As far as I know, I haven't heard of any deal with the NHL in the local papers (then again, the Hartford paper's pretty much just suited to lining a litter box or a birdcage, not for reading).

OK, thanks. It was a couple of years ago that I read about it, so I must have mixed it up. I wasn't too far off though.
They must have struck some kind of deal since Whalers merchandise is popping up.
Some small tweaks and slight colour change, and that jersey could be very decent.
It reminds me of the All-Star Game jerseys worn when the game was in Minnesota. Very similar colors and the font written diagonally down the front looks close too.
Yeah, I saw it and was wondering too, but accidently got ot of the site before I could copy it.
Some money says that if Calgary ever does follow up with a third jersey, it'll be a throw back "red white and yellow" from the introduction era, ergo, road to the '89 cup.
And if Edmonton and NYI are any indication, wouldn't look half bad on the RBK jersey.
Failing that, the sooner we get a new secondary logo, the sooner we won't have to wear flags on our shoulders.
thanks for posting this im going to get an oilers hoody just like it :)
YOU RETARDS THOUGHT THAT WAS A JERSEY?!
AHAHAHAHHAHA
