Pirates Go Patriotic
Saturday · Nov 8 · 2008 | 7:24 PM PSTThe AHL's Portland Pirates basically wore the American flag tonight when they played the Philadelphia Phantoms. And I've got a picture to prove it.
That's ex-Bolt Mathieu Darche in front of ex-Pen Jean-Sebastien Aubin during tonight's 5-3 Portland victory. Look at that thing.
And if the comments earlier this week taught me anything, it's that this is a gross disrespect of a great symbol — the hockey sweater. I jest, of course. But yeah, that jersey is pretty bad.
I'm waiting for more pictures. I'm going to have to start building photo galleries for specialty jerseys like this. One thing at a time though.

it was brought up a couple times during teh last post. it was worn by the Rochester Americans several years ago. Personally, i think the Amerks is just a better flag design. i happen to own one of these.
Sure, the jerseys are horrible, and sure they're, as you put it, a great disrespect of a great symbol. If the Pirates want people to overlook the disrespect of the American flag, they just need a wardrobe malfunction to happen - look what happened when Kid Rock wore the flag as a poncho at the 2004 Super Bowl; nobody cared because they saw a nipple!

im a huge sabres fan and therefore now am a pirates fan cause the amerks are gone.
i understand the reason behind the jersey and everything and its a good idea to pay tribute..
but couldnt they have come up with something better than this?
hmmm Rochester's jerseys were unique and actually really popular...ya think Portland is trying to relate and trying to gain fans after becoming Buffalo's AHL affiliate this year (no matter how tacky those may look)?
it sad that they try to show there new "kick ass" jersey against one of the most sexy jersey's of all times.
patriotism is cool but it still sucks compared to the phantoms away jersey.

That actually came out worse than in the drawings. It's fine for a one-time gimmick night though. And at least he's covering most of the Phantoms jersey wich is awful itself.
I don't know why, but I actually kind of like them.
These jerseys are sick, anything original you wouldnt expect is the sweetest jersey ever!!!
