New Playoff Logos Unveiled!
The firm hired by the NHL to redesign the league's Stanley Cup playoffs logos unveiled the new marks last week on their web site.
Torch Creative is featuring two new logos online. One is an update of the logo introduced last year. The other is solely for use with the Stanley Cup Final. Both can be seen right here on Icethetics.
The ribbon on the Final logo is an interesting touch. Wonder if it'll have any color to it. It'll be interesting to see which of these two designs takes the lead for the Stanley Cup Champion logo at the end of the season. I'm still pulling for my Bolts but it's looking less and less likely every day.
By the way, don't forget to check out my interview with David Young, designer of Team Canada's jerseys. I posted that earlier tonight. And just as a reminder, I'll be away until Sunday. Expect minimal site updates until then.

I like the first one, but am disappointed by the second one. And does the NHL need new Stanley Cup logos every years? I liked it when they just made slight adjustments from year to year (i.e. 1998-2004).
Actullay the second one would look better without the ribbon and a blue background.
I like the different logos every year.........gives us something new to look at.
I like them both. At first I thought the tips of the ribbons were hockey stick blades!
Hopefully we will be seeing an Oilers logo included in the Champions logo this year but after tonight....It doesn't look to promising.....ouch!
Those will look fan-farking-tastic on Sharks jerseys.
Eheeh!
The second one is pretty sharp (literally, look at all those points) but I don't like the spacing of the text. It looks like "StanleyCup" is one word.
I love the second one...now we just need the Weagle behind the top half of the Stanley Cup and we are set.
Hey Chris thanks for posting this interview. As an art director/designer and hockey enthusiast, I found the information very inspiring as well as useful to my own career path. For me this website is a MUST-check every single day. Sometimes 2 or 3 times in a day if the mood should strike. I know it takes a lot to keep up and maintain this website so my appreciation is great. I'd love to get a job designing for some aspect of hockey, jerseys preferably. Thanks for posting the link to Torch Creative as well. I will check them out. I rather enjoy the new Stanley Cup logos as well.
As mentioned previously, StanleyCup looks like one word. And I thought it was the FinalS, (note the ending "S"), not just Final.
I like it. By far the best the Cup Finals logo has been; Hopefully it sticks.
They should put the Playoffs Logo on a playoff team's jersey for their duration of the playoffs. If they did this, they should make a red version of the blue Playoffs Logo for the Eastern Conference Teams. and if not just use a team's primary colour.
and then of course the final two use the Cup Final Logo.
I'm glad they just used black and silver for the finals logo and not any of the conference colours like last year's logo.
I really like that FINALS logo a lot. I checked out the Torch Creative website and browsed their other work ... take a look at the 2009 NBA All Star Game logo. Amazing and very clever.

There is more than one finale? No, it's just "Final" cause its the end.
I like these logos, hopefully they will release them large for us graphic makers, so we can add them to our art/collections.
For those of you complaining about the Stanley Cup text looking like it's together, cause of the size you can barely see it but the C in cup is slightly larger than the rest of the text. The S is the same size as well.
This patch will look really nice on a oilers jersey
yea, well too bad the oilers won't make it to the point where they will get it on their jersey
As a Dallas fan, I am really impressed with what Torch Creative has done with all the logos they have made. They are sharp and very well balanced. Top notch!
If only they could have designed a third jersey LOGO for us.
