Avs To Don Third Next Year?
Will the Colorado Avalanche join the third jersey ranks beginning next fall? Denver Post writer Adrian Dater seems to think so.
In his Avs Mailbag column on the newspaper's web site, Dater responds to a question about the team's lack of a third jersey by straight up saying they'll wear one next season.
I see many teams in the NHL taking out their third jerseys. And maybe I missed something, but I do not think I've seen the third Avalanche jersey this year. Do the Avs have one? I think the Nordiques' light blue jerseys would look stunning.
—Milan, SlovakiaThe Avs will not wear a third jersey this season. There are a lot of logistical issues with teams wearing them, more than you might think. So, that's partly why they aren't wearing them this year. It creates more logistics for the visiting team.
The Avs say they will wear them again next season. And, yes, I agree it would be nice to incorporate some kind of Quebec connection on them — although I wouldn't go so far as to wear their pure light blue old colors.
That being said, I would be surprised to see them return to the burgundy sweater from several years ago with COLORADO angled across the chest. If they do introduce a new sweater for 2009, it'll likely be something entirely new.
Calgary and Minnesota have already confirmed plans for a third jersey next year. I'm just hoping the Rangers will join them.

Cool, I can't wait to see Calgary and Colorado's 3rd jerseys.
Yeah, I can't wait to see what version of 'Bigfoot' they decide to put on the 3rd.
Rangers should follow the Devils, and just keep a home & away. This league is now flooded with jerseys, which only comes down to marketing their team for more of our cash.
The league and teams need to make money, I'm happy for them to grow their teams' identities and have some fun with new designs. The great thing about third jerseys is that if you don't want to buy one, you don't have to. I'd rather have the option of spending money than being forced to spend cash of things I already buy.
The Rangers need to stick with home and away. I love the third, but there's one little problem.
The Statue of Liberty is technically in Jersey.
And I like the idea of sticking with two jerseys. It's sort of old school.
the rangers should not make a third jersey. as a diehard fan of the rangers, i dont want one because we dont need an abomination of a jersey to compliment our two classic jerseys which are some of the best in the league. were an original 6, no need for a third jersey to line dolan's pockets even more
M Zippo.... I think most Rangers fans feel like yourself and I, no need to change a good thing, for the sake of jersey overkill! Don't get me wrong here.... some teams are in DESPERATE need of a 3rd, their jersey's are so bad. Not the Rangers.
XD, I hope it just says "AVS" on the front.
The Rangers don't need a third again as it seems that most of their fans are content with two uniforms.
I can't wait to see Colorado's new third (it better not be Bigfoot). Definately would be neat to see them pay homage to the Nordiques but I can't say I see that happening.
Also, you're back Chris. It was getting boring without you working on the site!
Though I'd love to see the Avalanche use the Nordiques in their 3rd jersey, I doubt they will. It just as unlikely they'll use the old Rockies logo. (would mind seeing that either). I bet they will probably go with some sort of bigfoot themed one.
I hope the Rangers just bring back the Statue of Liberty jersey. It is a classic jersey. Don't go out and fix something that is not broke.
please please please don't make the avs wear nordiques jerseys
quebecers would be insenced
I hope they opt for the diagonal "COLORADO" again.
No way! That diagonal COLORADO was a failed attempt at looking like the Rangers.
Can't mess with an original 6 look...... find your own, other than 'Bigfoot'!
CHRIS where are you?
...On vacation, Chris? I find myself checking this site way too much.
Yea where did you go Chris? Not much has been updated lately, however i did enjoy the new concept collage.
Come out, come out, wherever you are. Christmas is over. We need to start talking about uniforms and logos again, now that we've (finally) put the 3rd's to rest.
It seems I have to retract one thing in my previous comment. Chris is not back, not completely anyway. What happened to you Chris? It would be nice if you at least provided an explaination to your absence in the blog.
its been a week :'( Chris we need you! :O
u play to do a new post anytime soon?
one post in two weeks wats the deal at least tell us whats going on so we can stop coming if u posted something and being disappointed
In the meantime, while we all wonder where Chris has been, I read on NHL.com today that the response has been so overwhelming with this year's Winter Classic that the league plans on doing it as an annual event, having it in a different city each time. Plans are in the works already to decide where next year's game will be played! I think this is great news for any fan who loves the game and it's true history. Not only will we be treated to the childhoodlike feel of the outdoor setting, but best of all , fanatics of the older jerseys (like me) will be able to enjoy seeing them in use like in the good ole days, and then we'll also be able to purchase them.... as they'll be made along with all other sorts of souvenirs with the teams classic-look.
Last year Buffalo & Pitts - both great jerseys. And this year Detroit & Chicago! NHL.com said the sales for these vintage jerseys have been phenominal so far! Can't wait to watch on the 1st, and can't wait to see who's in it next year. Much needed great news for this sport. The All-Star game is quite a bore lately with 10-8 scores and no defense. The Winter Classic counts, the game is outside in the elements, and the uniforms are vintage. What more could we ask for?
I like the outdoor games, but the more they're done the more forced it feels and the less special they become. Every year is a bit much. It won't take very long to run out of good match-ups at that rate.
No way, there will be plenty of match-ups to be done as an annual event considering all the teams in the north. I hope next year it will be in NYC and we can see a Rangers vs. Islanders or Rangers vs. Devils, both great rivalries, but at this point I'd prefer they'd play the Devils until the Isles get better. Either Giants Stadium (Devils home), new Yankee Stadium (Rangers home), or the new Citi Field (Rangers or Islanders home, but I associate Rangers with Yankees and Isles with Mets so It'd fit better with Isles being home here even though its still in NYC). What would be your Ideal Winter Classic Match-ups and where would they be held? (I'm just curious what people in other markets would say since I'm in all three of these teams markets that I suggested, and also because Chris isn't here yet and I'm bored).
No, they won't run out of good match ups. They just can't insert any of the new teams from all the weird, non hockey markets, that's all! Way better than the free-for-all we witness at the annual AS game. At least the WC is a real game.
As for match ups.... instantly Habs & Leafs come to mind, either in Rogers Ctr or the Big 'O'.
Rangers vs. any NY team or any orig.6 team would be great!
Another good idea would be to insert a team that has moved from either Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford, Minnesota, and have them don the old uni's. What a sight it would be to see a team skating with the green N Star jerseys again!
Im a Canucks fan, and I would like to see Canucks-Flames game! That would be pretty cool. They could play it at the Stampeders stadium in Calgary (no place to play it in Vancouver). The Canucks could wear there 1970 jerseys with the V on the arm and the stink in the rink logo on the front, which are different from the ones they wore in 1972 and the ones they were now. Also the Canucks could wear there yellow one with the V around the neck. Calgary could wear the one that they wore in the year that they one the cup, with the white flaming C. The Canucks could wear the millionares jersey of 1915, but it wouldn't match the flames jersey. Another great rivalry could be Sharks-Kings. The Sharks could wear the old Golden Seals jersey, and the Kings could wear there purple jerseys. Only problem is where do you play an outdoor game in California? Montreal-Toronto world be great. Toronto in the green St. Pats Jerseys and the Canadiens in there 1945 white jersey with the blue stripe. Just throwing some ideas out there.
Connor... Canucks-Flames sounds great, and I'm sure the venue would be great.
Canadiens-Leafs is a no-brainer. I'm sure it'll happen sooner than later. But you puzzle me with Kings-Sharks. Besides the weather in CA, why would the Sharks don Seals jerseys?
San Jose is an expansion team from 1991, with no affiliation to California Seals franchise.
LA would look great in the purple & gold..... I wish they'd go back to that permanently!
Minnesota or Quebec should be considered too.
Ronald, the Golden Seals started up in the sixties as the Oakland Seals. Later they became the California Seals and even later the California Golden Seals. I recently moved to San Francisco and have seen a few Canucks-Sharks games. The Sharks and their fans still respect the Seals and ive seen quite a few guys walking around in HP Pavillion on a Sharks game wearing a Seals jersey. Teams like the Sharks, Wild, and Avalanche should wear the jerseys of the Seals, North Stars, and Rockies. Expansion teams shouldn't play and wear the jerseys of the dead teams that they were born from. The Coyotes shouldn't were Jets jerseys. its just insulting and amazing franchise with a horrible team. Winnipeg had a great team and the Coyotes suck.
In the case of the Wild and Avalanche, I could see maybe wearing the N Stars and Rockies, because they returned to the same city eventually. But did the Seals actually play in San Jose? I'm well aware of the teams existence from California to Oakland and back, but I think the Sharks have more of a seperate identity. Maybe I'm wrong. But for now I think the Winter Classic should concentrate more on orig.6 teams, and teams from 'cold weather' climates, to make it feel all the more vintage. Where are you originally from, Connor?
Ronald, I am from Vancouver, and have always had a love for the Canucks. The reason i put that jets comment in their was because my dad is form Winnipeg and has always had a love for the jets. The sharks do have a seperate orgin, and this wouldn't be my first choice for the winter classic. the seals never played in san jose, but in an arena in oakland. but if the sharks were ever in the winter classic, that is what i think that they should wear. I do agree that the Winter Classic should start with Original Six teams and then branch out. I think that they should come to canada! Do Leafs-Habs, Nucks-Flames, or Flames-Oilers. And to correct you, the North Stars are presently in Dallas, and the Rockies are in New Jersey (i think). just correcting you. I like were this conversation is going, lets keep it up!
Ok, first.... I know the N Stars are in Dallas, and the Rocks in NJ! What I was saying is that the 2 cities that moved their team away, eventually got a new one back (Colorado Avs, and Minn. Wild) Having said that.... I love the city of Vancouver. My Mom's from Montreal ,and my aunt, uncle, cousins moved to BC from Que. about 25 yrs ago. Been there twice and can't wait to get back. Mountains, water, clean city. I was actually there in '86 for Expo... great time!
My heart belongs to Rangers, growing up in NNJ, but Canadiens are my 2nd favorite, and I've always pulled for the Canadian teams.... including Canucks! I just love their original unis from early 70's. I own both the home & away. Wasn't to thrilled with the Star Trek V's, as most people would probably agree. I agree that Winnipeg should have a team! I really dispize all these teams in warm weather cities. It takes away from hockey's origin and true feel for the 'outside game'. And that's were the Winter Classic fits right in. I hope they never stop doing it. Perfect day too.... New Yrs day.... for guys who are sick of college football all day long, this NHL game is a perfect treat for hockey fans. Canucks look good this year, but it's always hard having to get past Detroit and now SJ.
I think it would be great if the Avs got a third jersey, especially if it was the one that was planned to be the nordiques the year before they left for denver

but maybe tweak it a bit
