Team Canada's Third Jersey?

I've been getting a lot of emails these days specifically about the jersey seen to the right. It's obviously a Team Canada jersey and since the Hockey Canada sweaters have been banned from the 2010 Olympics, it's been asked whether this retro-style jersey will replace it.

I honestly have no idea. I've been told by several people that it's being used as a third jersey and is a possible candidate for Olympic action in two years. Beyond that, I really can't speak on the subject with any certainty.

If there's any official information out there from Hockey Canada or the Olympic committee, I'd love to hear about it and share it with the rest of you.

For whatever it's worth, I think it's a really sharp sweater. Not like anything I've seen any other team wear. So kudos on that. And it's retro, but in a good way. Not sure what it'll be used for but it's available for sale wherever you buy hockey jerseys.

Feel free to add your comments and conspiracy theories below!

I'm guessing it'll be used for the upcoming World Junior Championship. Dunno what they'll go with at the Olympics. I guess it's supposed to be an updated version of this: http://www3.telus.net/Orr/Team_Canada_76_Orr_RJ.jpg

I wouldn't mind having team canada wear retro at the olympics. They're pretty solid jerseys.

YES!
USE THIS JERSEY!

i'm typically against odd jerseys such as the one above, but it's based on an extremely famous jersey, and uses many elements from a ton of past team canada jerseys. that "logo" is so weird, yet calls up all kinds of great memories of the past, that it's hard not to love.

i'd really like to see some kind of sleeve stripe, but these are never perfect.

it's completely unconventional, and if it didn't have historical precedent i'd probably hate it, but i think this jersey would work just well enough for team canada. amazing as a 3rd jersey, great as a regular.

Yea, this is our third jersey for the world juniors, but when I first saw this I said to myself "f*ck yes, let's use these!" Can't wait to see Hodgson rippin' it up at the WJC in this jersey! (I'm a Canucks fan :D)

Sorry, I'm not a fan. The stripes (??) are too radical, and I don't understand the pattern. I don't see a leaf there, so it's not that.

If it didn't say "CANADA" on it, I'd imagine it were the Switzerland jersey. I know they can do better, and I hope they do.

This will be Canada's alternate jersey at the World Junior Championships. Probably just preparing customers as this and a white version MAY end up being the Olympic jerseys. Hockey Canada is still trying to fight the decision to wear their logo at the Olympics. Wouldn't Team USA have to change their logo also? and Finland, and Germany, and Russia etc.

It is an unsual jersey, but no matter how much I try to hate it, I still like it because it brings up retro memories. Still not sure though, if I would want this jersey for full-time duty. I'm just going to wait and see how Hodgson and the boys look in it at the WJC...

I'd be all in for bringing that Jersey Back. Just as long as they use the original and not an updated version seen in the above picture. They should also use the Summit Series Jersey as an Alternate.

If not, they should just use the Maple Leaf Logo from the Third Jersey and replace the black text with red text.

I don't like it. I just bought a hockey canada jersey a couple months ago, and now I'm not going to be wearing the same jersey as my team at the olympics? Come on!

I don't care how much people like retro, just tell the IOC to grow up and let them wear the regular jerseys.

This is, at the very least, going to be an alt jersey at the world juniors. Check out the video on the WJC site on tsn.ca

Anyone have a link to the article about Canada's jerseys getting banned? It sounds interesting, to say the least.
