Third Jersey '09 News!
I see you guys have kept busy in my absence. What a shambles. Told you I'd be taking a break, though. Just longer than I expected. I really want to get back to things. So much interesting stuff going on that's just not getting the coverage it deserves. I'd like to take on a second writer. If you're interested, email me. But only if you're serious. Crappy writers need not apply. I also need someone dedicated, unlike myself these days.
Anyway, onto today's news. Adam writes in with 2009 third jersey info. As ever, I can't entirely vouch for its veracity, but suffice to say I have no reason to doubt it. But to protect the innocent, I won't say where this information comes from.
Among the teams adding new third jerseys for 2009-10 are Calgary, Colorado, Florida, Minnesota and Nashville. These are all teams who have previously had third jerseys but we don't yet know if they'll be going back to what the old ones or trying something new. Obviously, Minnesota will need a new design since they made their old red third their home sweater in the Age of Reebok.
Calgary could return to the Flaming Horse but I highly doubt it. Colorado and Nashville could return to burgundy and mustard, respectively. And I really hope Florida does something more than toggling the broken stick in the panther's mouth.
But wait, there's more! Edmonton fans rejoice! Allegedly, your club is getting brand new home and road jerseys. Sadly, that's all the information I have at the moment. We'll probably just see minor changes like, you know, connecting the sleeve stripes. The third jersey isn't going anywhere.
Philadelphia is pulling the old switch-a-roo and making orange their home color and black their third. Flyers fans will love that. And finally, as previously reported, the Blackhawks will swap out their current third jersey with their Winter Classic duds.
Conspicuously absent from this list is of course the Capitals and Rangers. I guess we'll have to wait even longer for that Lady Liberty crest to make its triumphant return to hockey.
All right, I hope this news somewhat makes up for my absence as of late. I plan to get to all of the jersey news I missed in that time over the next week or so. Plus, concepts! Lots have been sent in and lots will be posted.
Also we'll try to finish up this whole IceHL thing and get some new projects going. I've missed you guys and I hope you missed me too.

Yes! Finally he's back with news! We all missed you. I read on an Islanders blog that they are trying to move to using their vintage third jerseys as their new Home jersey and a white version of it as their Away as soon as possible. The league wants them to wait until the 2010-11 season to do it because they need to sell off the remainder of the current RBK Edge home and away jerseys they have left in stock.

I hope the Oilers make their new road jerseys another 80's replica. For a good laugh, it would be funny to see the orange Alberta Oilers WHA jersey make a return. Anything would be better than what the Oilers have now. I wonder if Nashville making a new jersey will increase their fan base any higher than the 10 people that are at their games now.
I had a feeling that the Oilers were planning something different for next year as their last years jerseys (without the 30th anni. patch) have been marked down considerably at their official store. (around $80CAD for the premier and $150CAD for the authentic) which most likely means they wont be going back to those exact uni's next year.
lmao HockeyLister, you gotta love the WHA Oiler's jerseys and logos, so 70s.
I think it'd be sweet if the Oilers used their 80's jersey with the midnight blue and copper colouring. I'd like to see the geardrop back too somehow (shoulder patch?)
Major cheers from me that the Flyers are going back to the orange home jerseys. I wonder is that means we'll see a switch in their road jerseys or not. It'll be interesting to see what the organization does.
I doubt the Preds will come back with the mustard uniforms since it was a special layers of materials to get that color. I'd love to see them do something really out there and use their young franchise status to test out some new designs, or even colors.
Welcome back, sir!
I really hope the Oilers fix their jerseys. I'd rather go back to the preebok set, just Edgified, but if we have to keep the new stripe design, at least connect it all like you said. I'll never understand how that idea was ever thought of, let alone considered as a good thing.
Drop the piping, too!
wow Orange is home again for my Flyers huh? I'm stoked. I have an Orange Luca Sbisa jersey and love it. (cept for the fact that whoever made it sucks. numbers are shitty and theres some small problems with it.... im never buying from NHL again.) While all this means is we see orange a lil more than black, i've always said orange should be the home jersey, and it is! Im stoked!
also Chris, is it possible for you to post a source for the Flyers jersey info? I wanna be able to confirm this
Very exciting news about the Flyers!!
I will love to see the orange back as a home jersey!
YAY!! chris is back!!!
we've missed ya man. glad to see things are gunna get back rolling soon. i must admit, you had me kinda worried there for a bit. lol (never doubted that you would be back)
anyway, i hope the sabres make their thirds their new homes. i no its a rumor thats been swinging around, i just hope that its true. GO SABRES!!!!!
Thank Jebus if that Flyers news is legit. I HATE those black jerseys!
Sounds good ... see you in a month or two.
@HockeyLister
Hey, we easily get like 25 people in the Sommet Center for every game! Haha oh well... God I hope we come up with something better than the puke mustard nastiness we used to wear! I was never a fan of those...
As much as I hate the Flyers, Orange at home makes sense for them.
Good to see GMGM and Ted aren't biting at the third jersey bit. Caps need (imo) to earn their stripes in a uniform before deviating from it in any other way. Besides, I'd argue that they're the best jerseys in hockey. And feel free to disagree, I'm stubborn >:3
To Gosabres,
The difference between what Philly is doing, and what you'd like Buffalo to do, is that the Flyers did it right by going totally '75 retro without bending over for Reebok! If Buffalo uses their 3rd for the primary, it's a modernized retro logo AND uniform.... which I think stinks. Look how nice the Penguins, Oilers, Isles, Habs, Bl Hawks, Flyers, and Leafs look because they went 'real vintage for the fans', not modern vintage with altered logos and piping all over the place. LOL
About time Icethetics got back on its feet. Are we finally going to finish the Flashback 98 Tourney?
Time to express my New/Third Jersey Opinion...
Oilers: I am more than glad to see the monstrosity that is their Home/Away Jerseys is heading out. Hope they replace it with something a bit more like the Pre-Edge Oilers Jersey. Or maybe something similar in design to their third jersey in their current colours. But for the Love of Gretzky! Can't they just use their Third Jersey and make a White version to go with it?
Flames: There's only three ways to go, Flaming Horse, Vintage White C, or maybe go crazy and use the Atlanta Flames A (As in Alberta). Trying something new doesn't look like an option right now.
Avalanche: Three paths to choose...COLORADO, Bigfoot Logo, or New Idea.
Predators: It's gonna be Mustard Coloured with either the Skull Logo or that 3D Predators logo.
Wild: Green, Either a North Stars Tribute, something new, or do what Dallas did and make a white version of your Home Jersey.
Islanders:Agreed, Go with Vintage style jersey A.S.A.P..
Flyers: Kind of surprised by this one. They should make an away jersey to go with their current Orange jersey. Only thing I don't like about this idea is Simple...Another Black Third Jersey.
& the Blackhawks: The only thing I'm curious about is the Tomahawks. I hope they don't screw it up. The C in the Tomahawks I think might be unnecessary.
Anyways, Welcome Back Chris!
Curtis,
I stated in a post a few weeks ago that there's no need to put the 'tomahawks' on the 3rd's shoulders! The classic look should stay undisturbed! They already have the patches on the home & aways. Why ruin it with overkill? They should know better.
to ronald
i agree w/you on that. i wish the sabres had just gone w/the retro. ya no, like the ones they used in the winter classic. they looked amazing. but they didnt. the new thirds are still better then the current set so y not hope for it. and the only thing diff in the logo now and the retro one, slightly diff color, some silver outlining, and slightly different handles.
oh yea, and the sabres are currently 7-1 wearing the new thirds.
It's already been announced that the 3rd jersey for the OIlers will become their primary home for next season and the current home jersey will become their third. The road jersey is staying the same.
