First, the most recent email in my inbox comes from J.D. Let me set the stage. January 31 was Golden Ice Night for the IHL's Kalamazoo Wings, sponsored by McDonald's. But it wasn't enough to just have yellow ice (really hope they used paint, by the way). No, instead every K-Wing was forced to dress like Ronald McDonald.
I totally wish I was kidding. The Wings actually took the ice against the Bloomington PrairieThunder looking like this. I think I need to set up a new section of Icethetics. Worst. Game-worn jerseys. Ever. Coming soon.

Anyway, on that same night, the ECHL was humiliating itself as well when for no apparent reason the team from Las Vegas decided to stick its nose into the issues with the Illinois governor — nearly a continent away. I told you about this last month and posted mock-ups of the specialty jerseys for Rod Blagojevich Night.
And there they are on the ice. At least it's white ice. There's no way that any number of pictures could possibly do this justice. So there's video! (A warning though, you might want to turn your speakers down.)
Best part of that is at :34 when we see the off-ice officials in the classic judge garb, robe and wig included.
But wait, now if you think the NHL is immune to that stripy nonsense, au contraire. The following night, Montreal Canadiens stepped out against the Boston Bruins wearing something that went out of style nearly 100 years ago.
Seriously? Worst. Game-worn jerseys. Ever! On the list. Personally, I think it's cool for a one-off sort of thing. But strictly objectively, holy crap.
What troubles me is how all of these monstrosities took place within two nights of each other. What? Were the hockey gods taking some time off? I know I was.

I think these are all hilarious! Only as a one time only thing. As far as the Habs' jerseys, I never thought that they would put the logo of their arch nemesis on their jersey.
HockeyLister: its the jersey that the Habs work in like 1913-14 or something like that. with it being the centennial year they are wearing throwbacks for certain games.
i personally love those Canadians jerseys and wish i had one. they are so horrible they're awesome.
a fun fact about those jerseys though: during the time the Habs were wearing those, the original Ottawa Senators were wearing similar jerseys (only Ottawas were red, black and white). well Ottawa complained to the League about it and how they cant tell whos who when they play each other and how its a rip off, etc. well the League said that when Ottawa and Montreal play one another, Montreal must wear a different jersey. the Jersey the arose from this was the red jersey design that is currently worn in Montreal.
the other jerseys are just plain horrible.
the prison jerseys remind me of a retarded hockey version of Longest Yard. the black and white jerseys to look similar to the Blackhawks original jerseys from the 20's
I don't think the Habs uni's would look that bad if they lost the matching socks! Way too many stripes there.... cause I actually love the Sens barber pole shirts.
And as for those Mickey D catastrophies....... an outright joke!
the problem with the habs unis are the thinness of the stripes combined with the colors. in black and white, the sweaters don't look bad. the senators barber pole doesn't look bad, but those...those are hard on the eyes, with the exception of the solid blue box for the back numbers, which were surprisingly easy to read.
I hate corporate advertising on jerseys, but at least Kalamazoo went all out and did the look correctly. as for the wranglers...is it bad that i actually like the monochrome stripes in a very old school way? I would not be opposed to a minor league team wearing something like that full time

But I want to see more pictures of that yellow ice. I've played on rinks where the creases were yellow but an entirely yellow rink sounds disgusting. Isn't there a US college that plays on a blue football field? Boise State I think. It would be so weird playing on a ice surface that isn't white.
What the **** is wrong with people and sponsors? I'm fine with slapping a logo somewhere on the jersey, but just one. I figured the Mexican Primera soccer league was the worst, but this McDonald's crap takes the win by far and away. For shame!

Well, I'll say one thing about the Habs' jersey. If they had kept it it certainly would have become iconic!...even more then their current one.

Vegas Jail Jerseys: The Striped Black and White ones aren't that bad. Also don't mind the Cop Outfit for the Refs. Just don't do it again!
Montreal Centennial Jersey: The picture above makes them look quite good and personally I thought they did look good...At least compared to the other two.
But seriously, I watched them play in them on TV that day, from afar, they look like Leafs Players in Purple and white with a hint of red. This is probably the only way you see a Maple Leaf on a Habs Jersey today, wear a throwback from before the Toronto team was known as the Leafs.

That is correct Kyle they play on blue turf which has been nicknamed "Smurf Turf"
Michiganders is also acceptable for Michigan residents, as well as Michiganians.
I hope the Wings won that game because the shame of losing in those uniforms could ruin a player's career.
I actually sort of the like the prison stripes and solid orange always makes me kind giddy because I think of my Flyers.
I thought the Habs' jerseys were fine at first, until I tried to watch them moving on the screen. At that point my eyes twisted in on themselves and ripped a hole in time and space, allowing me to travel back to 1912 and slap the guy who designed those sweaters.

Can you imagine being a Kalamazoo player and walking into the dressing room and a bunch of Ronald McDonald costumes are hanging up.

hahahaha man those McDonald jerseys are horrible just to top it off with the ice and please Habs, keep those jerseys locked up.
Also did anyone notice Fukufuji in net for Bakersfield in the video, thought that was pretty fun.
My god... I thought Ronald McDonald would stay in my nightmares, but now he's in my favourite sport! I burst out laughing when I saw the McJerseys, the players must have been embarassed.

Sadly the Wings did lose that night, the players hated them along with the fans. The Pups(Thunder) were messing with out guys, but their jerseys look ugly as well with the baby blue and whatever that logo is supposed to be. They did this again this year in the ECHL and we won this time, but the jerseys still sucked.

As for the colored ice in Kzoo we have lots of them: Green Ice (St. Pattys day-special jersey), Orange Ice (Halloween-special jersey), Pink Ice (Valentines-wedding on ice and road red jersey), and that hideous yellow ice.
