Old Leak, New Look for Wild?
Tonight's post is in reference to a link I offered up yesterday on Twitter. If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, take a look.
Depicted there are seven Minnesota Wild jersey concepts purported to be actual prototypes for an alternate sweater the team put forth in focus groups way back in 2001.
At that time the Wild had barely played a season but team management was already looking into the possibility of a third jersey. It would be 2003 before the Wild actually debuted one, but it was on their radar even then. And if you look at image #3 in the linked gallery, it's nearly the same design but with the green and wheat swapped and without the alternate shoulder logo.
Without vouching for the veracity of these unverified images, what's interesting to me is that prototypes #1, #2 and #6 all feature a script across the front of the jersey. Two days ago, Wild beat writer Michael Russo of the Star Tribune said he'd seen pictures of the new alternates, they're green, and the team name is written in a script across the chest.
Try to imagine the red swapped with green. Could we be looking at an earlier version of the Wild's upcoming third jersey? And if so, what do you think? Does the script suit the classic look Minnesota strives for? Or does it fall flat and ruin the club's aesthetic?
One thing I want to make note of that makes me question whether these are legitimate prototypes. If you look closely at the shoulder patches on both of these designs, the logos are upside down. A simple mistake for a design firm on unofficial artwork? Perhaps, but it's worth pointing out anyway.
Later tonight, I'll try to throw together a green version of Alternate jersey #1 so we have a better idea of what we're seeing.

These designs make me extremely ill. I hope that this is nothing like the final product!
I'm not sure about this jersey #1. It looks a little too much like a baseball uniform to me. Why not just bring back the solid green former primary jerseys? Those would be badass, plus since 2007 there has been a lack of green in the NHL.
I think Jersey #3 is basically exactly the same thing they've had in the past, plus green instead of the wheat color. That being said, having seen teams like the Oilers, Islanders, Canucks, Bruins, and Maple Leafs all going to throwback/past years uniforms for their new alternate, I think a green version of #1 is exactly what we're gonna see.
Thank god they did not go with #7 lmao!
The shoulder logo on Alternate Jersey #3 looks like the Waste Management logo...also known as my garbagemen :P
I like the shooting star dotting the "i" on MInnesota. The "M" reminds me of a past MN Twins "M"
Like the state patch, but not the MW
Have to say i like #5 the best.

spoiler alert!
They seriously need to produce a green jersey. The color-spectrum of green is seriously underused in today's NHL since the Stars apparently have become afraid of their own team colors, let alone their logo. The only other team that uses any shade of green in any capacity other than the Stars and the Wild is Vancouver, who have it as a secondary trim color.
Way too much blue and red going on in the league, not enough green. Wild, make it happen.
(Yes, there is the Sharks' teal, but that color is somewhere between green and blue that I'm not even sure where to put it).
Oh yeah, and please no script logos. Makes them look like baseball jerseys.
Being a loyal Wild fan, I really don't know what to think about them. Image #1 looks really sharp, but I don't know if its really a pro jersey. I think it looks too collegiate personally. But who knows, we will all find out in September.
According to my source the Wild third jersey will NOT have a baseball like cursive script.
Wild uniforms have always looked like they belonged on a roller-hockey rink. To me the conversation should not be happening because we should be called the Minnesota Blue Oxen... now we have a real mascot (instead of Nerdy, I mean Nordy). Then we mix in some classic blue and blue (like our many lakes) using Maine's jerseys as a staring point and look out Stanley Cup! If we really need a third jersey, might I suggest the green North Stars jersey circa 1980... now that's classic!
Can you say UGLY!!!!?????!!!!! Please find something else!
I do agree that they need to use Green, though.
I don`t like these jerseys at all, they look like they`re from the fifties, the original from when they entered the league, home and away look much nicer. And why not wear white at home again.
