In Transition
Just wanted to give you guys an update on my transition. If you haven't yet heard, I'm in the process of leaving Florida for a new job in Seattle. I'm doing my best to keep Icethetics up to date with all the big news, but the little things are taking a backseat temporarily.
If you're looking for more frequent updates from me, keep an eye on Twitter for the time being. The Social Media block on the sidebar (right) always has the most recent updates and links. Regular updates will return along with the rollout of a brand new site feature by Christmas time.
This picture was too great to let it get buried in the comments. For those who haven't been following along, a debate has regarding fans wearing certain hockey jerseys to games. And a commenter named Don Brandt spotted this photo from a Canucks game on ESPN's website.
We've counted as many as nine different Canucks jerseys in just this small part of the stands, across many eras in Vancouver's history. I don't think there's any other NHL arena where you could find this kind of variety.

Actually, there's 9 different Canucks jerseys in the picture if you include home and away versions, and that's not including the jersey the players on the ice are wearing which would make it 10.
I've worn a sports jersey out many times. Sure, some people scoff at the whole thing, but there are many more who are intrigued when I pull out my Whalers jersey, or my orange oilers jersey. Being a jersey enthusiast isn't something to be ashamed of, the only rule I have personally is this: If you would normally wear your shirt tucked in to the event, a jersey in usually inappropriate.
The third party jersey at games has always irked me, but I realize that there are people that are transplanted and that's the only hockey jersey they own. At least it's a hockey jersey. Being a fan of an AHL team(OKC Barons), I've seen a lot of Oilers jerseys, some Avalanche jerseys when Lake Erie was in town, etc. at the games. Plus, with it being Oklahoma, there's a lot of people that are transplanted here. I think right now, the thing that irks me the most is people that are still wearing the CHL Blazers jerseys. And I always realize it could be worse, having people come in Thunder jerseys, or jerseys from teams in other sports.
Phoenix has fans?
Anyway, I didn't get the nickname jrzman (pronounced Jersey Man) by accident. I just picked up my RBK Atlanta Thrashers cobalt colored jersey (that's what it says on the hang tag), and that's jersey number 102 for me. I wear them throughout the season, wearing only teams that play that day. On an aside, both NHL games I attended I wore a neutral team. Suffice it to say, my 1980s era LA Kings home jersey got me some looks in Columbus.
Also, Chris, now that you'll be in the Seattle area, you might want to check out the Everett Silvertips, and their jersey. I picked it up a couple of months ago, and that jersey is simply awesome.
My word, people have a lot of investment in what people do with the clothing they buy with their own money.
I participate in "Jersey Fouls" discussions on Puck Daddy, but I tend to pass more of the simple things. The only Fails I give are stupidity like "McLovin 69" or similar, and ridiculous Frankenjerseys. Someone wearing a new third with a retired player who never wore the jersey - who cares? Someone wearing a jersey of a team not competing? That honestly makes you mad? Wearing it in public, not at a game? Really? I'm spending hundreds of dollars to buy a jersey, and some shmuck on the internet is going to tell me where I can and can't wear it? No. You can make all the "jersey rules" you like, but I am not going to follow them. I can't wait to get "Price 31" put on my 1944-45 era Habs jersey.
Also, Montreal Canadiens. Check out the stands during any home game and see all the eras represented. Even that godawful barberpole one.
