All-Star 2011 Logo Unveiled!
The Carolina Hurricanes unveiled the 2011 NHL All-Star Game logo today in downtown Raleigh. They also revealed a giant window treatment on the RBC Plaza building promoting All-Star Weekend.
The NHL released its official description of the logo as well:
The primary color of the logo is a tribute to the Hurricanes and their legion of fans, the ‘Caniacs,’ who display their team pride by wearing red during home games at the RBC Center. Also, the holding shape is consistent with the Hurricanes’ primary logo.
With the 2011 NHL All-Star Game being played in the state capital of North Carolina, Raleigh, and the popularity of the Hurricanes stretching well beyond the Triangle, inspiration for the banners along the top and bottom of the logo is derived from the official flag of the state of North Carolina.
It's very, very red. Very red. I do like the subtle hurricane shape the logo sits in. Outside of that, I think it's rather red. I understand they didn't have a lot to work with, what with red being the Canes' primary color.
Anyway, what do you think of it? Share your comments below.
By the way, there were no details released regarding the All-Star uniforms. I'm not sure when we'll get our first look at those. Of course, they may just recycle those worn during the 2009 game in Montreal. Maybe swap the blue for black. Maybe not.
The Hurricanes have added a new photo gallery to their website from today's festivities. I recommend taking a look because the logo comes of much cooler on their giant poster. The dark red is darker and the silver looks more like chrome.

i like it a lot. maybe it would be better if they changed the backdrop to white, though. i agree in the sense that there's too much red
It's.... red.
Could they fit no black in there? Maybe make the light red/pink highlights black? Something? Anything for a little contrast? The logo itself is well done, but i think the fact they went so red takes away from it.
It's red? I hadn't noticed.
The background makes the red overwhelming, but aside from that I think it's great.
Cons
Red

there is little to noavalability on these items: black white hurrican
Pros
looks good
classy
keeps me distracted from wrighting essay in sumemr school
As far as all-star logos go, it's pretty good. However, I don't think all-star logos (or all star games, for that matter) are meant to be impressive.
[Insert comment about the red-ness of the logo]
seems like you guys are being pretty generous....pretty all-around awful logo IMO
There is something "Bluejackety" about it. Perhaps it's the ribbon and stars???
I think it'll look great once it gets used for things like patches and promo stuff. I actually like it a lot. It's modern, yet simple.
I was expecting something better than this. I think it probably would have looked better if they used a white back drop and outlined the words All Star and the star inbetween in black, it's just way too red for my liking. I imagine they'll be wearing this logo as a patch somewhere on their jerseys.
eh, it's decent. I don't hate it, but I don't like it either.
Boring.....
all of NHL.com's versions have a white backdrop and it looks fine. No idea why YOU put it on red...
its really red...
there is the logo on nhl.com with a white background. Much Better!!!!!
Steve, I'm confused by the accusatory nature of your comment. I did not put the logo on red. Click a couple of my links. I used the exact graphic posted on the Hurricanes' web site. They put it on red. Though when you look at their photo gallery, the dark red looks a lot darker in print.
Looks like Steve and Chris are both seeing red now :P
Har!!
I understand all the red being an homage to canes fans. Although it seems they are really trying to limit the amount of tickets that go out to canes fans like me who can't afford season tickets. I am afraid that what we see at the allstar game won't be a good representation of canes fans.
The Black Version that is shown in the Cane's photo album on their website looks so much better.
I just swapped the dark red for black in photoshop and it looks awesome.
who cares how red it is. It won't look like that on the patch or on the ice. its a fantastic logo
Yeah, the one they actually showed at the unveiling is so much cooler looking. That would look awesome at center ice
Saw the comment above regarding a Ducks/Kings game and got me thinking.
My two cents? Teams that get a chance to schedule an April 1st game ought to wear joke sweaters for the day
Ducks' WildWing and Kings' GreySwipe would be perfect candidates for the event.
Wouldn't even have to be a big thing either; just reuse cheap CCM sweaters like the Flames did for their retro last year.
Then auction them off after the game. Call it a charity.
Thatsan idea. The All Star patches are all starting to look alike... I have collected them for all years that thye have had a pach and the last few years all look to be done by the same designer and boring !
