Exclusive: Red All-Star Jersey Surfaces

Red 2011 All-Star jersey / exclusive to IcetheticsJust last week I shared some details of an early sneak peek I got of the 2011 NHL All-Star Game uniforms.

Today, a loyal Icethetics reader emailed in a photo of the red team's jersey. I'm told the sweater was found hanging on a rack inside a Pittsburgh sporting goods store. You can see some Penguins jerseys beside it.

I don't want to reveal where exactly this was found as I'm not looking to get anyone in trouble, merely to show you guys. A few observations based on the photo:

  • The gaudy Reebok patch on the front tells us this is a Premier replica jersey, not an Authentic one like the players will wear.
  • The collar is a style we've never before seen on a Reebok Edge jersey. Nice to see something fresh.
  • The red NHL shield fits perfectly with what was posted last week, but because this isn't a customized jersey, there's no number above it.
  • There appear to be red stars spaced out around the bottom of the sweater just above silver and maroon stripes.
  • The arced pinstripes on the lower part of the sleeves resemble what I was trying to describe as the design inside the numbers on the back of the uniform.
  • And the All-Star Game logo patch seems to be placed on the top of the right shoulder, not the front as previously assumed.

I still don't have a picture of the blue jersey to share but it's probably a safe bet it will be the inverse of this one. Having seen this, are there any concept artists that care to take a stab at the set? You have my email.

Ehh... I'll wait until I can actually see it on somebody (along with its counterpart) before I'll pass judgment. Moreover, I need to see how the crap they're gonna put a number between the crest and the collar on that thing! (Personally, I'd prefer no numbers on the front...)

The NHL jersey is slowly dying a painful death at the hands of Reebok. This is an embarrassment.

I'm interested to see the blue shield on the blue jersey. On another note I'd like to see both teams wear a colour other than white. Blue and Red are different enough for the fans to be able to recognize players on opposite teams without one team wearing a white jersey

I wonder if the wavy lines were put in to make it tougher on counterfeiters. And I also wonder where Reebok gets their odd ideas for collars; it looks like a factory defect.

correction of errors for the 2012 ASG: design jerseys that don't suck as hard as these!

I like it, Better than the last few years

It looks nice and clean, the stylized shield is a nice touch. It looks like an All-Star jersey and that's all I ask of it. I like the jersey.

the stars in the NHL shield are really bad...

Jan 10 · 6:50 PM PST | Unregistered Commentertyler

I wish they'd get a little more creative than just colorizing and adding stars to the shield. Come up with an all-star game shield or something. It never appeared on a sweater but I love this logo from the 70s and 80s.

Looks a lot better than the jerseys they used in Montreal. Worst ASG jersey ever.

I must say my favourite all star jerseys in recent history were from 2010 ;)

Jan 10 · 8:40 PM PST | Unregistered Commentertc7

The collar is exactly the same as the Blue Jackets thirds (with CBJ have laces...)

Jan 10 · 9:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJarred

It looks... cheap.

Other than the collar and the fact that the size tag for the player ID at the bottom of the jersey is in line with the stars around the bottom, it is a pretty good looking jersey. I just hope this number underneath the collar doesn't look too horrible, because if anything it should be on the right breast instead.

I must admit, I am pleasantly surprised.

Sorry Jarred, it's really not the same as the Blue Jackets' new third. The only similarity is how the collar sticks up. But otherwise, as you point out, the All-Star jersey has no laces and it's also rounded at the bottom. If even the laces were the only difference, my point still stands in that it is a collar we have never seen before on an Edge jersey.

Funny you say that. That logo DID appear on the ASG jerseys (on the LEFT SHOULDER) in 1983 to 1986, '88 to '91 and 1993.

Onto the jersey now, it looks like a practice jersey from a distance, but I reserve my judgment when I see it on a player.

I've never liked the all star jerseys and this one is no exception. I don't like it when you put a lot of stars on a jersey. Seems so... Trailer-Thrash, if you'd ask me. The all star jerseys often seem very... plain. If you look above you see only red and white, and the blue one will probably be only blue and white. Feels more like a warm-up jersey than an actual game jersey.

I have two All-Star jerseys, World player from 2000, and the West jersey from 2004. This will not be the third, it just screams fail, though it does have some redeeming qualities, though the neckline is really bad.

good all star jerseys. i think the jerseys are gunna be kinda wild to reduce Chinese counter-fits. There was an article saying they'll be cracking down on them. It seems to be going on a lot so far this year.

Rangers Retro-Hem numbers, and the collar: "Established 1926"

Blue Jackets Alternate collar-"We fight, we march!, and on the outside of the collar-tribute to the team's late owner.

and now of course the all-star numbers.

Jan 11 · 5:07 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJACK

Why dont they just put the All Star game logo for that year as the main crest instead off the NHL Shield....would look more like a "club" jersey and make it distinguishable which year it was used.

I kinda like the red and white colurs..not sure on the maroon collar as such, but see what it looks like i guess.

now that they've been unveiled on nhl.com, I have to say that these are by no means the worst...i mean, the striping, though untraditional, is in the traditional places, and I can handle that. It's the claims of an "experiment" by reebok to introduce a "lighter" jersey that "wicks away moisture" AGAIN. That, and this new numbering system sounds an awful lot like glorified heat-pressing, which should never be acceptable for a professional league in the 21st century.

Anything Reebok has done since it came out with the Edge crap is garbage.
