Check out the NHL Logo Maps

Haven't had much in the way of news to report this past week. There have been some new player jersey numbers announced, but I'm debating whether to expand the already massive Sweater Switch post or come up with a new method of presenting them. (Of course, if you still want updated jersey numbers, be sure to follow me on Twitter or keep an eye on the Twitter feed in the sidebar.)

In the meantime, other aspects of the site continue to be updated. For example, just this afternoon I've added new Concept art. But cooler than that is the new Logo Maps feature I added last week. Since 1942, the NHL map has had a habit of changing every few years, so I have maps to depict every update and they're being added to the site on a daily basis. As of today, we've reached the 1968-1969 season, the second year of the first NHL expansion.

Hope you enjoy the new stuff while I work behind the scenes on more new features for the future.

Wasn't the North Stars logo the one with the 'N' in the green circle during expansion?

No, really, I'm not trying to be a d!ck....................

Appreciate all you do! Keep up the good work...

I hear you. Variations of the logo were used in a number of forms, but I'm aiming to stick to the logo that was used as the jersey crest for the purpose of these maps. No circle logo was ever used on a North Stars jersey.

I love these maps. Chris do you have any plans to go back and do the pre-Original Six history after you do these?

My bad... you are correct (as always), sir!

I like that the maps through 1967 have the Rangers icon pointing to the site where Madison Square Garden III stood, and the last two maps point them toward the present MSG, to which they moved during the 67-68 season.

One thing, though... I'm wondering why the Seals aren't pointing to Oakland/Alameda County Coliseum Arena (present-day Oracle Arena), which they played in during their final Western Hockey League season (1966-67) as well as their entire NHL existence at the Bay (1967-76). The icon on both maps points instead to a house on Gardner Blvd. in the middle of a neighborhood a few miles to the south.

I may have accidentally moved that marker. The goal is to put each marker on top of the team's arena.

God I love that Northstars logo. I have it on a hat. I'd have it on a jersey too, but they only sell the green ones at the hall of fame and the Air Canada Centre. I want the white one that Modano wore after his last game as a Star. Also, does anyone remember what year St. Louis added the word mark above the bluenote crest? Also, what year they added the "St. Louis" text to the logo itself, thereby temporarily ruining one of the nicest logos in hockey?

The Blues wordmark was original put above the bluenote in '84/'85 (and mighty ugly, if I do say so myself). The other bad decision to put the "St. Louis" inside the bluenote was in '86/'87. I believe it coincided with those fugly-ass jerseys, Red should have never been a color in their scheme.

Looking forward to a WHA map!

Man, that North Stars logo is striking. Dallas is missing out for every second they aren't using a derivation of it.
