Orlando Solar Bears Logos Unveiled
So... happy new year! And the ECHL's incarnation of the Orlando Solar Bears have officially unveiled their new logos. You can see them now on the team's website.
It's a very sharp look but the folks at Joe Bosack always do outstanding work so that's no surprise. It's certainly an improvement on the previous version of the logo from the 90s.
Quick bit of a housekeeping. Obviously, the updates have been few and far between. Part of that is lack of news. Part of it is lack of time on my part. So it goes.
Anyway, I'm taking a short vacation back to Florida for a few days — where I plan to take in a Lightning game or two — but when I get back I hope to be able to make a little more time for the blog.
In the next few weeks, we should start getting information about logo and uniform changes for the 2012-13 — and there will be a few.
For those of you following the IceHL Project, I have an update over there for you.

That's a badass logo. Keeps the charm of the original but doesn't look outdated.
I feel like the sun flares kill it. I think they should have kept it in a black circle. All that orange is overwhelming. It would have looked awesome if it didn't have that. I would have liked to have seen the palm tree's kept in it though. And the Alternate paw logo looks way too cartoony...I personally think keeping the old paw for the shoulder would have been a great way to keep part of the old team involved.
I wanted to like this...but I can't. That's pretty terrible.
I personally love it in the sense that it's got that "so bad, it's good" quality. Look up there and tell me you don't see that. It's a nod to the nineties, when every logo designer completely lost their mind, and I'm pretty sure the main criterion here was that it had to look like it was drawn by a colour-blind zombie. Intentionally. Nostalgia at its finest.
It's just cheesy. Looks like a logo for an ice cream sandwich or something.
Wow! That's simply ugly.
I can't stand it. He looks like Snoop in "Gin 'n' Juice" as he says "Laid Back." Why is the Solar Bear so lazy?
That's awful! The sunglasses are the cherry on the garbage sundae.
not a big fan, think it looks too hokey. the alernate is better in my opinion. looks too fruity
How many times can they do the slanted writing with an animal coming over it or leaning on it?
Check out any set of logos from various hockey leagues. This basic design has been done to death.
Is it possible for something to not look 90s while using purple and teal? No. Apparently, it is not.
As much of an improvement on the old logo this is, I just hate the whole "solar bears" concept. Drastically alter that hideous color scheme and I could MAYBE let it slide.
Agree with Justin, the Sun icon is overwhelming, Honestly it just doesn't need any of that, just shades, team name and palm trees. I would have liked to see subtle elements remain the same, like shades looking over his sunglasses instead of them just covering half of his face. Shoulder patch looks like it came from nickelodeon, just the paw was awesome. They could also have capitalized on the old color scheme more effectively. There is absolutely no need for the awful yellow.
Gut feeling the Sabres will make a change as well as the Jets this coming season. The Jets will bring in a 3rd jersey from the first franchise in Winnipeg and the Sabres, now in the Pegula era, will either go back to the original (royal blue & yellow gold) from 1970-1996 or the total opposite of the spectrum.
Teal and Purple? How uninspired/uncreative. C'mon son, this isn't 1998...
Solar Bears? Really? No, no.
A minor league logo for a minor league team.
Does every new team logo have to include a hockey stick? The great pro logos generally don't include one. It's insulting to our collective intelligence. What do the designers think consumers are - dimwits?
The Solar Bears were the first hockey team that got me interested into the game when I was young... I'm disappointed with the logo... Justin pretty much nail what he say about the logo. The sunburst kill it and I don't think it is needed on the shoulder patch either.
Shades (the bear's name) look odd with the hockey stick resting on his shoulder make him look somewhat "lazy" instead of being into the game, or how awesome the original look with arm crossing and a smirk on the side of his face..
Yeah, purple and teal, so uninspired and unoriginal, after all, 29 of the 30 NHL teams totally use that combo
