The Charitable Side of the NHL
The effects of the NHL lockout are not just being felt by the players and owners who are quabbling over their share of billions of dollars. Every team has its own charitable organization that keeps the money flowing to those in need over the course of the season. And without full arenas, things like 50/50 drawings aren't happening.
The good news is that these organizations are still finding ways to help their communities. And in an effort to give them some attention and fulfill the purpose of this blog (logos!), here's a little something for you to enjoy this weekend.
So how about that? All 30 charitable organizations tied to NHL franchises. You probably noticed that while most are team specific, a few are not. For example, the Colorado Avalanche work with Kroenke Sports Charities as both are owned by the same parent company. Similar situation with the Maple Leafs and MLSE Team Up Foundation as well as the Rangers and Garden of Dreams.
Now go and be charitable!

I love that the logo for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation does quadruple-duty, being a minimalistic Oilers logo, hockey puck, lower-case "e", and one of those charity ribbons.
And I don't know if it's just the typeface or what, but the Dallas Stars one gives me good vibes.
I'm a Die Hard Flames fan but even I have to admit the Flames Foundation For Life has one of the the worst logos on this page. Next to Boston and Florida even.
You should make all the logos links to their foundation websites in case people want to donate.
I like the Habs one the most because when I was little I would draw their logo just like that.
Shouldn't the Lemeiux Foundation also be attached to the Pens?
I know the Predators held an SPHL Exhibition game between Knoxville and Huntsville to help the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital since I believe it was supposed to be their Hockey Fights Cancer weekend. All money raised went to the hospital and it at least put hockey on the ice if only for a night.
Warm and fuzzy feeling
That's an interesting post as it's a good reminder of how teams can transcend their sport. Thanks for sharing it.
I agree with Louie, having all these be links would be excellent.
I'll work to try to get all the links included, but until then, these organizations are easy to find through team websites. Just look for the Community tab on the navigation bar of every site.
I know there's this lockout from hell as of now but when will there be another JerseyWatch?
Not until there's news to report. Unless you want me to just make stuff up. And with the Winter Classic canceled, that's two fewer jerseys than we were originally expecting for this season. Plus, this is just one of those quiet years. Gotta have one every now and then. Next season will probably see more logo and uniform changes.
Thank you for the update.
