Columbus Hosting All-Stars in 2015
City was set to have game in 2013 before lockout
As expected, the city of Columbus will get a second chance at hosting the NHL All-Star Game in 2015. The announcement was made tonight by the NHL, who also released an updated event's logo.
Ohio's capital was originally scheduled to host the game in 2013, but when the season was shortened by the lockout, the All-Star Game was one of the annual league events to get the ax — along with the Winter Classic which was rescheduled for this season.
There will be no All-Star Game in 2014 to accommodate the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Who should be the next two hosts?
Not much more to say on this, so let's look ahead. Who do you think should host in 2016? And more important, how about 2017 during the NHL 100th anniversary season? Montreal had it in 2009 and Ottawa in 2012. The only other original NHL city is Toronto and they last hosted in 2000.

Toronto should have it in 2017. No questions asked.
How about Anaheim? We've never had one.
Book the Islanders for one of them. Barclay center seems to host every big event lately.
I'm not too sure about 2016, but Toronto has to have the 2017 game. It's their centennial year, it only makes sense.
Anaheim has yet to host anything. Let them have 16 and yeah, Toronto 17.
I believe 2017 is also Toronto's 100th Anniversary and they apparently have huge plans, so that would make sense. I would personally like to see the now fully transformed MSG get the 2016 game, but that might just be because I'm a Rangers fan
Phoenix has yet to host, initially they were slatted to host the 2005-06 game. In addition you have Anaheim, Nashville and Winnipeg who have yet to host. In addition you have a new arena in Pittsburgh and the Islanders are moving to Brooklyn. The possibilities are truly endless.
I could see Buffalo getting a nod for ASG after their Arena District comes together; possibly 2016. With the 2017 season being the NHL's centennial, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go to Toronto or Detroit (Only if the new arena is completed in Detroit). Brooklyn is also a possibility for both years.
I think they did a nice job with this logo. Implemented the parts of the teams logos creatively.
As far as the 100th season All-Star Game, I'd think Madison Square Garden would be a good and reasonable choice. The Rangers (an Original 6 team) last hosted in 1994. Also reasonable would be Brooklyn (Islanders last hosted in 1983), Detroit (likely the last year at The Joe) or Chicago (last hosted in 1991).
For the 2016 ASG, giving another new market a turn would probably be a good idea. Anaheim, Nashville, Winnipeg and Phoenix are all yet to host an All-Star event. Personally (and as strange as this may sound), I'd go with Phoenix to try and ensure that the new ownership group has every possible chance of succeeding and drawing/maintaining attendance. Though any of those four would certainly work.
A Calgary/Edmonton/Winnipeg All-Star Game trio over three years would be a dream come true for this Albertan... But since Cow-Town, Winterpeg, and Edmonton are all "traditional" markets, I don't expect that to never happen. Since the UNtraditional tag seems to be the primary criteria with only a few exceptions the past number of years....Make the all-star game rotate through the following 8 year cycle:
Year 1: Nashville
Year 2: Pittsburgh (with special guest, The Washington Capitals!)
Year 3: Tampa
Year 4: Washington (feat. the Pittsburgh Penguins!)
Year 5: Phoenix (the last year before they become the Puget Sound Waves...)
Year 6: Pittsburgh (including a NEW feature: the SID vs. OVI game!)
Year 7: Florida
Year 8: Pittsburgh
Don't care too much on who hosts it. I do think the 2017 game should be in New York. Big city for a big event
I would love to see Anaheim get the 2016 game, more or less because I would like to see if the logo that Torch comes up with is anything like the one I did.
As for the 2017 game we know they are almost contractually obligated to go original 6. As a Wings fan I would love to see it in Detroit BUT for as classic as the Joe is I don't think it's cut out for the ASG. Toronto is a safe bet but I'd rather see NY, and seeing as the NHL offices are there I think it has more weight than people think.
For marketing and publicity reasons, I see the NHL going for Madison Square Garden in 2017. But Toronto has a lot of history too, so it will be a tough choice. Maybe they'll include Toronto somehow by having them host the Heritage Classic?
I think Brooklyn's arena isn't great for hockey. Supposedly the sight lines aren't terrible in the lower bowl, but the upper level is steep and feels a little far...this according to some fans' reaction during/after the preseason game there. There's also a capacity issue. It doesn't hold as many as most arenas. This includes one of the areas behind the goal that has a lot of club seating for basketball.
If it does come back to New York City, I see it going to The Garden first....with all of the renovations, it's basically brand new. Hell, they've even improved the ice surface!
While I agree that Toronto should have it in 2017, 2016 is an open field. Another candidate should be considered is NJ. After all they only hosted it back in the 80s at the ol' Continental Airlines Arena and with the Prudential Center in operation since 2007 it would be cool. But Anaheim, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Winnipeg, among others should be in consideration
Brooklyn (it's not NYC), should NOT get the All-Star game...it's not going to be for the fans, but the rich...
I strongly pull for a Canadian city...If there is a "cycle" between Olympics, it should go along the following lines
Year 1: Canadian market
Year 2: Eastern Market
Year 3: Western
Year 4: Olympics
...really?
Okay, Minnesota hosted one in 2004, and now Columbus is hosting one in 2015. Why? Both franchises were born in 2000. Why not host one in D.C.? The Caps have been around since the freaking 1970's for Heavens' sake! Or heck, the Devils, who've been around since 1982!
The 2017-18 season will also be the 100th anniversary of the Toronto franchise. Word is, they are pushing to get the 2017 All-Star Game and 2007 NHL Draft, just like Montreal got both for 2009.
Frankly, I'd be surprised and disappointed if Toronto didn't get it.
After all the $$$ spent on fixing up MSG ,, the game should head back to Manhattan , 2016
I know Tampa wants it. And after dumping $40 million into the building they should probably get it sometime soon. I also agree though that the Rangers should get one too. Their renovation was far more extensive.
Nashville is presumably a strong contender for 2016, a brand-new convention center just opened a few months ago right across the street from Bridgestone Arena, which was long talked about as the holdup to bringing that event here.
It has to be in Toronto for 2017, no questions asked. Sure that will mean an 17 year gap between events, but Montréal hosted in 1993, meaning there was only a 16 year gap between the last two times they hosted.
By Sept 2016, the new arena in Edmonton should be built, the Oilers have only ever hosted the event once way back in 89. A new venue to enter in a new century? I don't think it would happen, as I think it will go to Toronto or MSG.
Toronto is a reasonable choice, or a team that has never hosted.
Pauls rotation is good, but he needs to expand it to 8 years
Year 1: East
Year 2: West
Year 3: Canada
Year 4: Olympics
Year 5: East
Year 6: West
Year 7: lockout
Year 8: olympics.
Put it in Detroit in '17 OR '19 (Depends on when the new arena gets built)
No offense to Toronto but you had it in 2000. Don't get greedy! Detroit last had it in 1980.
I could very seriously see the 2016 game going to some place like Winnipeg. It would be a nice bone to throw them with their return to the League.
2017 is going to be in Toronto, this is a slam dunk. Not only is it the Leafs centennial, but also the League's. There is not more fitting location than in the city that is essentially the League's birthplace.
2018, I could see that going to NYC, and before you say "that's an Olympic year" I seriously doubt that the NHL owners will want to send their star players to Pyeongchang, given the fact that it would be a perfect spot for, say, a rogue nation, to go berserk on their neighbors to the south.
There seems to be an overkill with outdoor games this season. If the NHL were smart, why not have an outdoor all-star game in Toronto to celebrate the 100th anniversary. I'm sure they'll have the regular Winter Classic in the states on Jan 1. I'd think an outdoor all-star game would present a good marketing opportunity and also add some spice to what is typically a rather lackluster all-star affair (at least the game).
