Senators Confirm "Vintage White"

Photo from Ottawa Senators (via Facebook)

Friday's Heritage Classic jersey teaser infuses color

On Friday night, the Ottawa Senators posted a new teaser photo for their 2014 Heritage Classic jersey. It's basically the same portion we saw earlier in the week — only now in color!

It confirms only that the jersey will be beige (or "vintage white" as I prefer to call it). This color has been used frequently in the NHL as part of "heritage" palettes for a variety of teams including the Bruins, Blackhawks, Rangers, Flyers and of course the Senators themselves.

What do you think? Brilliant idea or disaster?

I think it's just a vintage white version of their 3rd jersey.

I'm excited, I personally can't wait

That's vintage white? Looks white to me.

Vintage white has been used on some uniforms permanantly - to great effect...think London Knights (OHL) home jersey. If they've simply done the inverse of their black heritage jersey, then they'll have gotten it right. Simple. Classic. Ties in to existing uniforms. Perfect. Here's hoping they soon switch to both as their permanent jerseys.

Why not just have both teams play in Black & White renditions of their uniforms? That would at least be a more historically accurate representation of how people may have actually seen this uniform rather than this bogus "vintage white" nonsense.

So far I like what I see. That's not saying much I guess!

Why oh why? Vintage White: go away!

Instead of making a jersey that has staying power the NHL and Reebok go for the cheap gimmick. Way to miss the mark again.

Growing up as a Senators fan I have every version of jersey they've worn in actual games displayed on my basement walls. The current heritage jersey already looks like a heavily sweat stained jersey that went unwashed and forgotton in a hockey bag for a year or twenty. Now that this one is beige instead of white I want it 99% less.

What do you do about helmets, though? The Rangers' Winter Classic uniforms are the only ones I can think of with vintage white as the primary colour, and the navy helmets they wore with them weren't a great look, in my opinion. I think they'd be better off using white as the primary colour, so they could match them with white helmets. The vintage white thing is a bit played out anyway.

If Vancouver wears their Millionaire jerseys (and at this point I believe we're assuming that they will?), I think Ottawa's vintage white is going to look really good on the ice with Vancouver's maroon and vintage white. If the Sens had gone with pure white but Vancouver was wearing the vintage look, I think the contrast could have looked a little off.
It's going to be one good looking rink.

Eh...still indifferent. It'll probably be the 1900's Sens, but until it's confirmed, I'm still on the edge hoping for a 90's throwback.

But anyway, I'm indifferent about Vintage White. In some cases, it looks fine. But I wouldn't be mad if they've never used it at all, because a lot of jerseys would look good with it, or without. I really don't know what to say, but I'm fine with how they've treated it over the years it's been used.

The teaser looks fine, but it could be overwhelming once we see the whole jersey. I'm on the fence until I see the entire thing.

Gotta echo the sentiments of Nascarfan160, why don't teams put their numbers in their stripes anymore? That was the biggest shame about LA's new duds, and Ottawa... if I remember correctly.... did the same thing! The giant Times New Roman 'O' is so effing lame, if they put it on there it'll give me even MORE reason to say the Senators are my 30th favourite team in the NHL.

the jersey looks very white in the teaser picture if its supposed to be 'beige', sorry vintage white.....

Nov 23 · 10:39 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJerseyman

I like vintage white in most cases, but it really bugs me that the Heritage Classic logo has a bright white border. I think all areas of white should be vintage white if they are going to do this.

Nov 23 · 11:45 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterFrozen Faceoff

@NASCARFan160: the game is a tribute to the 1915 Stanley Cup Final between the original Ottawa Senators and the Vancouver Millionaires. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure that means that it won't have connections to the current franchise.

No shoulder patches?

Nov 23 · 12:21 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDill

What no hanger effect? Lol

Nov 23 · 12:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKris K

I think that vintage white is a nice color for these things.

Nov 23 · 4:09 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterYosef Coleman

The outdoor games' ice always looks a bit more off-white than it does inside. It's always seemed like a good match.

Nov 23 · 8:23 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterRyan J

What if the decided to be really old school and ditch a front crest all together just like the original Senators! I think that would instantly evoke a classic Senators look opposed to the modern Sens franchise. It might make the jersey too plain, unless they went über crazy on the stripes, but then the stripes would need to be thinner than their current alternate. If they do go with a crest, which I'd bet they will, I hope it's very simple like the Ottawa "O" again, which is most likely.

Nov 23 · 9:44 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterKris K

@D the Knights now have a new white jersey http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mhqGD4n-KMO8xl6U0mMkY4Q.jpg

The old one was ugly and was discontinued.... The black is now the alternate and the green the away

Chris, I don't think you do much CHL but this was a pretty big change

Nov 24 · 11:38 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRyan

Love the Rangers' third, hopefully love this one.

Nov 24 · 3:36 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMike

Looks great so far. Make this next year's road jersey, and the current third the new home. Done.

Nov 24 · 7:44 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

I'm such a sucker for vintage white, I think these are going to look great. My only issue with vintage white as a primary color for a jersey is that you can't really wear white helmets with it, so I'm thinking the Sens go w/ black helmets with these?

Nov 25 · 7:10 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterDave

My guess is, it's a reverse of the black heritage jersey, except for a few changes. No shoulder patches, and the O is replaced with a Senators script like shown from the video.

In my opinion, they'll be beautiful jerseys.

Nov 25 · 9:22 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAdam Smith

If I remember right the Blackhawks used tan (like their jersey in the 30s) and not vintage white for their winter classic and alternate jerseys. Also the Red Wings used regular white that year and their jerseys and the game looked very great. Using a regular white would be the best for this jersey.

Nov 25 · 2:59 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterWade

On the Sens Facebook page someone pointed out after the colour picture of the front was posted that the material of the C looked to be felt. I really couldn't see how she guessed that from the picture, but now looking at the numbers on the back it does look like she is right and the names and numbers are cut out of felt. That's a heritage touch!

Nov 25 · 3:35 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJD

I am so tired of vintage uniforms. As much as the Islanders missed the mark with that weird third of theirs, at least they tried something new.

Nov 25 · 6:58 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterSoupforYou

I'm really hoping for a complete reverse of the current
3rd, and so far it's looking good...I think It would be really cool if they used
the original 2D centurion logo as one arm patch and the two-flags logo from
the 1914-15 Sens uniform on the other

Nov 25 · 8:11 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterAlex

so this one being white means the canucks will use the same maroon sweaters they wore against Detroit last year. def one of the better canucks jerseys they have ever worn.

Nov 26 · 2:41 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJatt

It's gonna be the away jersey in 1 or 2 years.
