Panthers Mark 20th Anniversary

The Florida Panthers unveiled their 20th anniversary logo today. You can read about how the team plans to celebrate the end of their second decade on their website. Presumably, the logo will be worn as a special patch on the jerseys next season.

By the way, 2013 also marks 20 years of the Anaheim Ducks. So it probably won't be long before we see an anniversary logo from them as well.

The Ducks are weird though, the started in the 1993-94 season, but celebrated their 10th anniversary in the 2002-2003 season so they went by years not seasons. So if their was no lockout conceivably this current season could have been their 20th season.

Something that is starting to get to me is that all these teams have different bench marks to when it comes to Anniversaries. For Instance Dallas 93-94' celebrates their 20th during the 2012-13 season where as Florida 93-94 and maybe Anaheim 93-94 will celebrate theirs during the 2013-14 season. I know there are no rules for this kind of thing, so It is up to the teams. Some teams seem to go by how many seasons, where as others go by how many years since their inception. Throw in the Lockout year where no teams played and it can really screw things up. I think that is why more teams are going by the years now. This will be Florida's 20th season, but only because of the lockout year, which if played would of made it the 21st season.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'd still like to see some red trim return to the Blues uniforms. IMO their late 80's-early 90's look was their absolute best.

Dos Equis anyone? but i would love to see a throwback for the anniversary, especially for the ducks. Does anyone know if the Ducks are even allowed to use that stuff or if Disney still owns it?

@Rob S.
To my knowledge the NHL owns all logos previously used by NHL teams. Disney doesn`t own the logos and neither does any previous owners of any team, hence why the Ducks have the Mighty Ducks logo on the shoulders of the third jersey and the Jets were able to be called the Jets.

@Rob S- As far as I am sure, when Disney sold the team in 2005 to Henry Samueli and his wife, they sold the rights altogether, including the original Mighty Ducks identity. I am sure they have permission to run the old jerseys and logos. For instance, the shoulder patch on their current alternate jerseys feature the original mighty ducks logo, albeit 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks colors. If they wanted to keep the classic eggplant/jade identity with the classic jerseys, they could have.

Henry just wanted a change in the teams identity, that's the only reason why the Ducks are no longer Mighty, and the colors are black, gold and Orange County orange. I am sure if they wanted to do a Mighty Ducks throwback, they could, in which case I would be wholeheartedly ecstatic.

As for the confusing anniversary season countings, screw it. I wish there was a set-in-stone rule that the teams have to celebrate their anniversaries by years, not seasons. It's even more confusing for the teams that have moved. For instance, the Jets. The 2019-20 season will be their 30th anniversary as a team altogether, but will actually be their 8th season in Winnipeg, and actual even more if you count the old Jets team. So yeah, it's brain-boggling. I just like to celebrate and that's all.

And as for the celebrations, I hope Florida does a replica set of their inaugural jerseys (to include the blue jersey they wore as well), albeit them not being much different than today's (that's if they can make it with the Edge template).

As for the Ducks, I will drop down to my knees and beg to Henry Samueli to bring the old Mighty Ducks identity back. I know it's a far stretch, but I am almost 100% sure the fans will love it. It'll bring back the 90's, invite tons of awesome new merchandise, and will make the Anaheim's identity unique again. No logo changes, everything they sported from the Mighty era. If not the whole season, it'd be nice if they did this for the outdoor game they'll play next season. It's about time we talk about 90's throwbacks.

I don't know why, but I've got a horrible, lingering feeling that we won't even be seeing a Ducks 20th Anniversary logo or any kind of celebration. They'd be incredibly stupid not to, but then again they picked a "Strong typographical mark" (sic) as their primary logo.

I like what the Panthers did here with their 20th, especially the banner. It's a nice added touch.

As for the Ducks I'd just crap myself (to be bold lol) if they wore the Mighty Ducks sweaters as a throwback. They'd make so much money if they sold throwback merchandise throughout the season because alot of people are now really missing the classic logo (and especially if Selanne comes back, even if he doesn't fans including myself would go out of their way to get a Selanne throwback jersey or shirt). Any word if they're going to unveil a 20th logo at some point soon this summer?

I think a Panthers third jersey with that logo as the actual crest could look pretty good. It would be wider than the average logo, so I'd go minimal with any other design elements. Simply add some narrow stripes at the bottom of the body and arms. Stripes halfway up the arms would not work due to the width of the logo. No epaulets either. Or maybe nothing on the arms but the player numbers and maybe shoulder patches.

As for a return of the Mighty Ducks original jerseys, I might be okay with that. But I think the team should have a special team-cleansing fire rite at center ice on opening night. But first they have to get a hold of as many of those "superhero duck" jerseys in existence. Offer people something in return, like a new jersey/tickets/etc. Or the privilege of throwing that jersey into the fire-pit. LOL!

Anyhoo...
